They never fail to get the better of me
They are trained to put up walls and follow rules
Put on rings and keep their vows
Too wild for their own understanding
I can see what they need and I can see The Fear that keeps them standing still

I have The Fear too
But I force myself to see the future and to manipulate it into adventure

When I whisk away my Capricorn she willingly comes along
Only the daylight can turn her wild abandon and free spirit back into the caged bird

Still, in the night she is mine
And by the shadows flickering across her face from the poorly lit street lamps
I see her gypsy eyes begin to glow with life again

Disrobe the rhythm in my heart.
Let it ceremonialize its own unsympathetic departure,
in the dead of winter.

Let it yowl like a pack coyotes.
Then let the wind take the
melody to Jupiter in Capricorn.

A heavy hand, a heavier heart
full of every burden one can carry.
Made of earth, and stone, and stars
falling from the heavens, landing
with feet planted firmly in the ground.

My beloved earth:

You built up walls
to keep others out,
or yourself in?
This garden has gone unseen
for long enough.
Lungs rich with soil,
riddled with roots,
They creep up your throat
and spill from your lips,
so every exhale is reminiscent
of sweet spring.
Just be mindful of each
breath and your speech,
There is beauty
in a mouth
full of roses,
but danger
in a tongue
made of thorns.
