Just thought I’d share
the results of my brain fall quiz
What is your male stripper name?
Since I am neither male nor a stripper
it made perfect sense to do it
I’d like to introduce myself
as Milo Steel

Opening the gate to the home
of the gentle dead.
Dreaming of lost lives
under  faded drifts of leaves.

Halloween passed
with teenagers on dares.
Christmas passed
with mothers sorrowing.

What will this new year bring?
Flowers wither on the graves
of the grateful dead.
For those forgotten or abandoned,
the featherlight perch of the sparrow.

The cat sat on the mat
The mat swallowed the cat
After all, it did not matter
for it was a theoretical cat
on an existential mat

In America you cannot
save take one wild orchid
from the site of  thousands destroyed
by the diggers,
without prosecution
for destroying a protected flower.
It’s like the legal difference  
between war and ******.

robin sings
sun rising in his heart
song quicksilver
in sharp morning air

Dusty sparrow bathing,
a tiny puddle splash.
He sees the reflection
of an elegant bird.

It may be the Apocalypse
Even so, I hope it is
the last Trump

But the Japanese never quite understood
this strange choice of food
rotten and forgotten
But just to please you
In Japanese, if you love cheesu
you’ve really arrived

The abandoned railway line
leads to lush green
and clematis tangles
To a stream
that broke through
the crumbling stone wall
Owls nest there and children explore
What man abandons
and time devours
Earth brings back to life
her eternal children

Apples for crisp cider
for fragrant clove scented pies.
Apples for jealous witches
rosey red enticing.
Apples for fairgrounds
coated in jaw breaking toffee.
Lilith watches cynically
the robbery in Eden.
After all, she was the first woman,
and planted the **** tree.

My Aunt gave me a book of poetic rhyme
I thought I’d have a go I’ve got plenty of time
But for free verse I quickly pine
It’s a lot easier, you see

liquid gold spilled sunlight
over fresh fallen snow
sets the world aglow
turns your hair to flame

the creepy cat
washed itself diligently
first it’s tail
which vanished
then it’s body
which disappeared
finally, with invisible paws
it’s head.
Lovingly it surveyed
it’s sleeping owner.
It looked like her face
could do with
a spit and polish

What does Santa do
for the rest of the year?
The reindeer unexercised
eating their heads off
in their stables.
Unoccupied elves
up to mischief
with unemployed fairies.
And the tax forms
you would not believe.

another new year
I often wonder
where the old ones go

Hadn’t we better say
“ Happy New Year”
at the end,
when we know?

I resolved this year
make  new year’s resolutions
oh dear broke that one

scrub off your makeup
replace your chipped nail varnish
it’s a brand new year

twenty twenty five
a chance to repeat mistakes
I can’t wait to start

in the soft starlight
an emerald planet born
in deep oceans  life

three  billion years
before humanity came
like a locust swarm

you came  messiah
with snow and black ice for all
it was party time

the party’s over
ended in these shadowed streets
you abandoned us

you will come again
bearing your three precious gifts
we will rise again

a happy new year
may you recover quickly
from your hangover

rock on ancient queen
gold dust woman the wind blows
you’re gone forever

of stars and lovers
an eternal mystery
ancient history

living forest breathes
it’s the life of our planet
the mother of all

Shell cast up on sea shore
holds the first songs,
breathes the first words,
a mother said to her child.
They are lost in the silence.

Beach combers look for
flotsam and jetsam.
Teenagers with earbuds,
and old men listening for
lost beloved voices.

You called me your princess last Summer
I’m dying in the ice of your gaze
Your Winter Queen

serendipity
it’s such a wonderful word
and that’s about it

choosing my vices
a new year’s revolution
marilyn manson

leaf drifts on spring breeze
I take a wandering path
following her dance

bear wakes up early
hungry there are no berries
earth’s global warming

tiny miracle
hummingbird hatched in flower
shelter from rainfall

daisy in the field
her eye the colour of sun
she still seeks his love

a candy striped horn
the magical Ali corn
with wish granting wings

Lightning splits sky
an oak is burned
yet will not die

Sea dashes rocks to sand
a wonderful walk over
over golden land

lonely sky so blue
then filled with clouds and rainbows
loves wild summer storms

calico kitten
with your whiskers aquiver
chasing butterflies

the rainbow was born
from the shine of love’s light
in your sky blue eyes

It’s the empty spaces
the silence between cars passing
and the ringtones of the phone
that won’t be you

As stars move they trace poems in the sky
constellations of rhymes ethereal.
Many poets look to the Earth for inspiration,
to trees, ocean and meadow flowers.
Yet at night I gaze up at the night sky
and bring my children home.

The doll had been too well loved
and she was broken.
Children prefer teddies nowadays.
You can stick pins in them
and no-one notices.

Silver-blue sleek ocean
Not a ripple upon your glass surface
On golden beaches I discover
fragments of coral,blue sea glass.
spotted shells,eerie twists of driftwood.
This treasure spills from my hands,
all the riches I need.

Cat curl
he unfurls
A black rose
with tiny toes

Each one thorned
and he grows
to a puffball

Sunrise
the alarm goes
Cats day no more
time to curl and snore

Eyes infinitely blue
Spiritual skies hold rainbows
as your eyes do

Moon silvers the path
that leads you home.
Sun gilds your hair
and shines from your eyes

Only love can mine
the flashes of gold
in your obsidian eyes

The moon longed to join his lover the Earth,
who did not feel the depth of his love.
For she was entranced by the song of the thrush,
by the rippling stream and the sighing wind.

The sun eclipsed him and he wept in darkness.
Even over night he could not reign.
Ever since that time the moon fades
from full to a sliver of invisibility.
Waxing to bright hopefulness once again.
