Once upon a time a girl met a thief
She saw through his tricks, he opened her eyes
Their love was quite great but their time was quite brief
And once she was gone the world heard his cries

He hung his head low and his knees hit the floor
Another man came and offered to end the despair
The thief begged him "do it" and the thief was no more
The man simply laughed as his howls pierced the air

Muscles turned over as flesh turned to fur
Ears grew long and fangs sprout from jaws
The new body takes over while his mind starts to blur
Eyes glow like fire and blood drips from his claws

To break this curse a brave one you must be
For none can live, when the Beast is set free
My best friend said,
To "write it all down",
So here I am to compose.
Trying so hard to get rid of the darkness.
But there's something affecting my prose.

My mind and pen won't connect.
My, heart with the hurt it has kept.
Will stay silent, that is always it's task.
"Silent for how long?" He stares at me and asks.

I say I don't know.
That I'm tempted to go,
For I desperately wish I had wings.
He pauses and says
With no second thought,

Why don't you go write something?
The terracotta shines in the westerly sun
when the man and the woman
fly on the temple courtyard
on the wings of time.

She touches the sculptured kiss
He stares at the ample breast
She blushes at the frozen mount
He awes at the curve and crest
She feels a longing to be his
He wishes seizing her for a kiss.

Shadows grow long on the burnt clays,

time to go separate ways.
Above the sea,
With clouds slipping,
The old moon runs
All this ocean is,
Glass and dream
Is all mirror, I face
Reflections of loss
And promise unknown,
Anxious, clear emptiness,
The peace of held sorrows
Of a lone soul floating out,
Tossed in the blood tides
Of dashing hope, blurry,
Bane dream made reals,
In this picture, slow runs,
Of ocean moods, my being,
Two moons anchored by the sea.

Rhet Toombs
Still to be seen
Awakening a deceased compromise
Mirrored prey
Driven by enveloped creation
Fever consummation
Visions of your childhood home underwater
He tried to spit out the truth;
Dry-mouthed at first,
He drooled and slobbered in the end;
Truth dribbling his chin.

Love
I guess I won that stupid fight of "I love you more."
She stands.
Afraid to move.
Afraid to breath.
Afraid that she'll hurt those around her.
Then
She opens her eyes.
the fire burning in her heart
reflected in them.
She is strong.
She can't be controlled.
The group steps in.
She grasps her small knife and glares at the first.
As if daring him
to step further.
He takes a step forward
and she takes her own.
his lips curl into a cruel sneer.
He says,
"you stupid little girl...
you think you can hur--"
She looks down at the man.
Then around at the rest
Faces all in awe of what they'd learned
they back away
and she strides away
Flaming hair rippling behind her.
Someday our lonely eyes will meet
our fingers will entwine
and there within that moment
my heart will not be mine.

I'll give it to you gladly
to linger with your own
your smile will be my waking breath
your loving arms my home.

I'll kiss you with each sunrise
rest my head with yours at dusk
and hold you through the ages
'till we crumble into dust.

I hold this dream with tender hands
in hope that it comes true
and wait here for the someday
when I belong to you.
tapping my feet.
drumming my hands on my knees.
smiling and nodding to your story
while making quick glances at the clock.
its nearly at the 40.
twenty minutes
till i can leave
without looking inpolite
your words, they bore me,
your sweet talk annoys me.
i'm sorry i'm wound so tight.
i value our friendship
but you just want to sit and flirt,
while i want to sprint and drive dangerously fast
and scream, and feel alive.
Your talking has stopped.
your eyes fixed on mine, waiting.
"I'm sorry, what were you saying?"
i snap out of my trance and look at you
"only that I love you"
i don't know why.
why you take that risk.
and say that to me
maybe i really don't know you
i look down at my hands, then back at the clock, which is now at the 52.
my foot stops tapping as i look into your eyes.

           maybe i love you too.
