Sitting on the rocks listening to the ocean sigh
Clouds slowly move like brushstrokes-
Passing over the sun and across the sky
The sun's sweltering heat and the icy water
Reminds me I'm alive
mother,
tell me about compassion
and how you can impress
flowers bloom and blossom
out of kindness and love.
mother,
tell me about that hope
coursing wildly in your veins,
declaring you as the epitome
of each incandescent promise
and ethereal splendor.
mother,
tell me about bravery
and all the onerous battles
you've withstood,
hands held with that
of another mother -

generation after generation,
history after history.

mother,
tell me about acceptance,
tell me about love,
tell me about misery,
tell me about sacrifice,
tell me about sunsets,
tell me about tomorrows,

and in return i will tell you
about your radiant eyes
and how i've come to fall
in love with every wild flower.
i will tell you
about your smiles
and your heart
and how i've come
to learn about never giving up
despite all odds.
i will tell you
about the strength
i forever owe to you
and how i've come
to treasure what courage is worth.
i will tell you
how phenomenal you are,
how empowering,
how magnificent,
and how this world
is lucky to have you.

When I think of  places where I've been
and  things that I have done-
I recall many battles fought-
and those I've lost, and won.

I've met a lot of people-
on my stops along the way-
and remember a lot of faces-
But many names, have gone astray.

Friends have even asked me,
"why don't you retire?"
I answer very simply,
"I'm not ready to expire!

sancus
the soft glistening of your eyes
always makes me think you're about to cry,
but then you start to smile and the rain becomes stars,
and the stars become crescent moons
when the thin folds of your skin crease while you laugh.

i'm struck in awe as your eyelids gently flutter,
making me think of butterflies who flit
their delicate wings to latch onto their favorite flowers.
your eyelashes aren't that thick and long
yet they possess the kind of beauty that only you own.

the bags under your eyes are beautiful too,
it's never a flaw, it's a symbol of hard work you've always shown.
your gorgeous irises that displays it's chocolate brown-ness
whenever the sunlight gently kisses your face,
the warmth of their glow melts everyone who catches a glance at you.

your eyes are the windows to
a whole different universe that exists inside of you.
they are the windows to your soul.
oh, how i wish you'd at least want to have a glimpse at mine
as much as i wish to delve into yours.
hjs, i hope your eyes meet mine this second time.
she's a jumping bean,
bouncing off walls,
breaking in her velvet muscles.

a princess crown encompasses her cranium,
eyelashes like butterfly wings,
fluttering in a breeze.

wearing tic-tacs for teeth,
a smile designed by blind men's hands,
construction of a masterpiece.

eyes aglow with eagerness,
bleeding aquamarine,
flooding my pupils with luminosity.

giggles like dandelion seedtips,
a supplementary appendage,
attached to my forearm.

she blankets me in gentle bear hugs,
curling around like pink yarn,
frayed at the edges.
