She was a lioness;
All sleek lines
And mesmerising grace
Capped with a deadly intent.
He was an antelope
Caught in the headlights
And oh so *****.
One thing's for sure.

She's gonna eat him for breakfast
Just for fun
niamh Jul 2015
She paints on her face
Smothering her true visage
An honest liar.

She fixes a smile
Upon her broken canvas
Conning the masses.

She perfects her role
In her finest performance,
Convincing actress
niamh Jul 2015
They lay wrapped
in cotton sheets
and each other.
Cigarette smoke
combined
with the smell of ***
on the air.
She watched him
watching her.
Words hovered
within the silence.
Whatever else,
at least they
had this.
niamh May 2015
My thoughts are swifts
Flitting through
With enviable speed.
My pen's a net,
Incapable of catching them
But for a second.

Here is where I release them.
niamh Jun 2015
I never got to practice
So you'll have to forgive
My mistakes.
I would love to get it perfect
But I don't get any more takes.

I never knew what it was to love
Til I held you in my arms
And if it were left up to me
You never would know harm.

I know that there'll be times
When we argue like we've never argued before
But look around you sweetheart.
No-one could love you more.

And as you grow, I'll do my best
To steer you in the right direction
But go easy on me gorgeous girl,
My name is not perfection.

When you have children of your own
And I'm their doting gran
I'll tell you that you're doing great,
I'll be your biggest fan.

And when I'm lying on my death bed
And you still make me smile,
Know that it's not goodbye forever,
But only a little while
Another poem for my beautiful girls
niamh Jun 2015
I will lie in the earth with you
Under an altar of flowers
Our bare bones will be joined at the fingers
And our souls will forever
Be as one
niamh Jul 2015
Flames that licked upon our tender fingers,
Blisters on the skin of our youthful hands,
The grim taste of ash is all that lingers
As we stumble around these foreign lands.

Faces once well known are now such strangers.
Haunted by wishes now dissipated,
Hunting for safety among dangers,
Searching for what's long evaporated.

Expectations crumbling to such sorrow
And disappointment littered all around.
The longing for a better tomorrow
Sprinkled like seedlings on infertile ground.

We shield our eyes upon finding treasure.
Time takes it's toll, but not beyond measure.
First attempt at a sonnet - let me know what you think :)
Thank you to Drona for your input :)

It wraps its wicked vines
Around my heart
Robbing me blind
Of any sense
I thought i had.
Makes me forget
How much i want to
See my children grow.
Convince myself
The taste of ash on my tongue
Is what i want and need,
That a limited lung capacity
Is a thing of beauty.
Go through mental anguish
To get you out of my life
But invite you back in
At the gentlest knock.
A gun would be quicker
And probably less painful
niamh Jun 2015
The gentlest of flowers
are constantly trampled
under heavy boots
niamh Jun 2015
Trees are waving bye
But the sun is still shining
Tricky little breeze
niamh Aug 2015
The brightest lights in my life
Show me the darkest corners.
Stalked by fears unknown,
There is nowhere left to hide.
I refuse to clip their wings
Though my fingers itch to do so.
To give them life is frightening,
To let them live it is terrifying.
niamh Jul 2015
The time will come
When you no longer have to do it,
When it is no longer a duty,
No longer a hardship,
No longer a responsibility,
No longer a chore.

And when you want it
And it's no longer there?
Then you will know true pain
niamh May 2015
Let's set this bird free;
See if it comes back.
niamh Aug 2015
When the words
Crumble when spoken,
Carried on the breeze
And tossed aside
For their worth.

When the words
That trip your tongue
And leave rivers of blood
On nervous lips
Are lost forevermore.

Your eyes shall hold
Your truth.
niamh Dec 2015
The lies
like dirt under
fingernails.
Call on your inner
Lady Macbeth
but no amount of scrubbing
can cleanse them.
They lie thick
on the tongue
tainting tastes
with blistered buds.
A thousand ants
marching on your
skin.
Unscratchable itch.
Descending into
madness.
Only truth can
set you free.
Only you can
free the truth.

Best friend,
But prettier.
Love and jealousy;
bitter enemies
Are now constant companions.

Nail a smile
To my face
And pretend I'm okay,
Not hurting inside.

Does he wish
I were her?
Do they feel sorry
For the 'b' grade mate?

She wants what I have.
I want what she has.
We laugh,
But are we truly happy?
niamh Jun 2015
With innocent eyes
And malicious lies,
She's the ultimate devil in disguise
niamh Jun 2015
One voice
Drips acid
Spits venom
Poisons thoughts
Encourages jealousy
Rushes through like an inferno obliterating hapiness
Preaches hatred and receives hatred in return

The other
Showers love
Hugs with passion
Kisses with fervour
Encourages growth
Tiptoes through like a trickling river
Leaving me sated
Supports all and receives support in return.

I know which voice I'd rather listen to.
When it comes to poetry, both sides battle to rule the pen, but I hope the nicer side is reigning
niamh Jun 2015
He had all the questions.
She had all the answers.
They never met
Apparently its 'just for fun' for me today :)
niamh May 2015
Thick grey clouds rolled over
The tall grey buildings.
The stench of despair
Like a creeping mist,
******* happiness
Straight from my soul.
The angry clouds
Birth a raging downpour
And a flower

A burst of colour
In a world of darkness

Grasps the drops
Like a lifeline.
They lie scattered
Like an intricate pattern
Of delicate diamonds
And I'm reminded
There's beauty
In the ugliest of things.
niamh Aug 2015
There may have been
Something unholy
About his eyes, but
God!
How I worshipped him!
niamh Jun 2015
Her tongue like a whip.
Her words lashed
Across my back
Leaving weeping welts of pain.
A balm administered
To ease the hurt
But the memory
Lingers.
Spilt wine
Can't be put back into the bottle.
Once you say something, it cannot be unsaid
niamh Jun 2015
The dying sun
Sets the land on fire
And the sea
Reflects her glory
niamh Jun 2015
The clouds hug
The diamonds of night sky
Possessively
Like a jealous lover
So none other may
Look upon their beauty
And so I am left with
Harsh synthetic light.
No substitute
niamh Jun 2015
If he were to write for me
It would probably go
"I love my wife.
She is my life.
The end."
But I see the poems for me in his eyes.
That'll do for me.
niamh Jun 2015
Your eyes are blue lagoons
I could swim in all day
Your arms are silken scarves
To drape around me
Your lips are a rosé wine
I savour their taste
Your body is a temple
Let me worship
Your love is the air
It surrounds me
niamh May 2015
Here,
Let me pass you a knife
That you may
Make a clean cut
Instead of the
Thousand razor cuts
That your words
Leave on my heart
niamh May 2015
The pebble dropped
And the ripples ran out,
Devastating aftershocks
From a simple act.
No thought for others.
No care for yourself.
The pond will never
Be the same again.
Be careful how
You cast your stones.
niamh Jun 2015
Why would you want
Your dreams to become reality?
Mine are beyond bizarre
niamh May 2015
He laid her gently
Upon a bed of roses
But forgot to warn her
About the thorns.
He showered her
With luxurious gifts
But forgot to tell her
They were on loan.
He painted her world
In glorious scarlet
But forget to mention
The colour would fade.

Like a thief in the night,
He stole her heart

But forgot to take care of it
niamh Jun 2015
It shouldn't matter what people think
It shouldn't matter
But it does

I hate that
niamh Nov 2015
You were my beginning.
My first of all firsts.
The totem pole
on which my life
was carved.
The original altar
on which
I worshipped.
The only altar.
How do I begin
when my beginning
is finished.
niamh Jul 2015
Moonlight reflected
In the ocean of your eyes
Like priceless diamonds
niamh Jun 2015
May my words
Be the blanket
That keep you warm
niamh Jun 2015
Car crashes
Broken bodies
Lost loves
Shell shocked
Sweet sorrow's
Weeping words
Breaks boundaries.
niamh May 2015
The wind whipped
The rain
Upon your face
As they carried you out
Of the mangled
Wreckage.
The elements gave
No thought
To your dignity.
Nor did the drivers
Who slowed
(ever so slightly)
To catch a glimpse
Of a fantastically, horrific
Twist of fate
That smashed your bones
And stole your breath.
My heart bleeds
For people
I've never met
Who may not yet know
of the end you met.
I grieve with them
niamh May 2015
A flawed diamond,
scarred with imperfections,
is still a diamond
niamh Jun 2015
Beyond the horizon
an orange glow beckons me forward.
The path behind me
is dark and ragged
and I've been hurt more times
than I care to admit
and cried rivers
which flowed alongside me.
Sometimes I feel like I'm
struggling against the wind
and walking for hours
without moving an inch.
The path is mostly uphill
and my energy is sapped,
but I keep moving.

What lies beyond the horizon?
I simply do not know.
But I know I will get there

eventually
niamh Jun 2015
An infusion of love
Spreads like a golden glow.
I am immortal
Standing on the shoulders of giants.
The future is at my feet
Just a wee bit of parental love and support makes me feel 10ft tall
niamh Jun 2015
My poetry flows
Through my veins.
Sink your teeth in
And sample my life force.
If you don't like the taste,
Don't drink
I've read so many nasty sarcastic comments on other people's poems & it just ****** me off!
niamh Sep 2015
The velvet drops fall
        Erasing time,
             Creating space,
Sweeping memories
Along dust filled lanes.
A shrill whistle
          On a deserted street.
The kicking of a ball
That has already rolled away.
A balloon
           Slipping
From trembling fingers,
            Shrinking from sight,
Seeing more
Than ever before.
The velvet drops fall.
And the woman
            Still dances
Barefoot in the rain.
niamh Jun 2015
The majestic mountains
Curve gently
To meet the sea.
She laps at their feet
In a loving gesture
Reminding them, if she chose
She could bring them to their knees
And would swallow them
Without a second thought.
Poor majestic mountains.
"Where the mountains of mourne sweep down to the sea" a line from a song about where i live
niamh Feb 2016
Wicked vines
Come wrap around me,
Dip into my soul
And feed your blackened branches.
Trail your fingers
In the water.
Constant ripples,
Ever changing reflection.
Give me roots to call my own.
Sink and save me.
niamh Sep 2019
Did you hold her hand tightly
As you walked through the woods?
Waiting for the day to end
So we might join you.
The filtered sunlight
Warms your ageless skin;
So warm
Skin so cold.
Your voice echoes within my heart
And hurts my jealous ears.
A snapping branch of reality
Coaxing tears from the secret place.
The forest is vast
But the trees are not endless.
I will meet you at sunset.
And wonder at you once more.
And wander with you once more.
niamh Jul 2015
I faltered
And fell
And to my shock
I bled
niamh Sep 2015
I would wait
Through so many sunsets
And dawns
That time would lose meaning.
I would wait
Until my hair turned grey
And my bones grew tired.
I would wait
While others hurry
Losing sight of what's ahead.
I would wait
Through summer sun
And winter snows.
I would wait for you.
Always.
niamh Jun 2015
Sun stretches lazy arms
To stroke my face, kiss my cheek
Morning has arrived
niamh Jun 2015
Waves roll to the shore
Peaks and troughs race each other
To whisper 'I'm home'
niamh Feb 2017
Riding high on crests
Whispers hidden 'neath the waves,
Our desire to drown
niamh Sep 2016
A skeleton key
opening a golden door
to a room filled with lead.
Smiles on hosts
with rotting teeth,
tongues of poison.
Garments of silk,
moth ridden,
falling apart.
A garden of roses
weeds slowly choking;
perfume of decay.
I walk
this crumbling earth
and will sleep
with no lies.
