Without you by my side
all the pain comes to the fore.
There is nowhere left to hide.

All this hurt I can't abide
Life feels just like a chore
without you by my side.

As I sit by your graveside
and my heart breaks even more
there is nowhere left to hide.

For all the tears that I have cried
Joy doesn't live here anymore
without you by my side.

And so I swim against the tide
and it's you I cry out for.
There is nowhere left to hide.

In whom shall I confide?
Never questioned heretofore.
Without you by my side
There is nowhere left to hide.
First attempt at a villanelle - had to be done :)

What do you see when you look at me?
A woman with 'a tight ***' only fit for your grubby leers?
What do you see when you look at me?
A secretary you can ask 'what are you wearing?'
What do you see when you look at me?
Normal sized woman approaching chubby?
What do you see when you look at me?
Someone who would lay down her life for her kids?
What do you see when you look at me?
Someone who 'teases' just because she chats to you in the bar?
What do you see when you look at me?
A woman with big eyes haunted by her history?
What do you see when you look at me?
A 'grade-a *****' just because I don't make friends easily?
What do you see when you look at me?
Look at me
Really look at me
See me
All the quotes are things people have actually said to me !

In dreams we dance,
under a sweet pastel sky,
where the sun sets the mountains ablaze.
And the birds long to nest,
but are loathe to leave,
and the broken buds
and the beautiful souls
are carried on an eternal wind.
And the feathers that fall
are white.

I hear others
Speak or sing
In foreign languages
And I'm carried away
By my imagination
To deserted beaches
And lovers embraces
Hugs in a downpour
And longing gazes
Hands reaching
And hearts thumping
Eyes meeting across
Steaming coffees
Movie watching
In front of a roaring fire.
I always thought
I was tough as nails.
Turns out I'm a hopeless romantic.
Who knew?
Definitely a romantic at heart :)

Within the
Wilted leaves
Of the
Forgotten garden,
Where the
Weeds strangle
And the air
Is still,
Lies the
Faintest scent
Of sweetness,
The dying
Breath of
Honeysuckle,
The whispering
Promise of
A better
Tomorrow.
niamh May 2017
The winds of truth
carrying honest lies.
Cataracts on young eyes,
old beliefs.
Promises freely given
with a high price.
Purses filled
and bellies emptied.
Think for yourself,
the eternal command.
The sheep flock,
the dogs bark,
the hens peck,
and the pigs get fatter.

Ever fatter.

And the fields,
through which we ran,
become graveyards.

In my infinite wisom
I realize
That I know nothing

A lone star shooting
Across skies of midnight blue.
You're my wish come true
niamh Jun 2015
I will dance with your ghost
And wrap my loving arms
Around nothing.
I will smile at shimmering air
And rest my weary head
Upon nothing.
I will laugh at unheard jokes
And show my dimples
To nothing.
I will look at myself
In the mirror.
Just nothing
Having a drink listening to a story about a man dying too young & torturing myself imagining how I would feel without my husband x

Trees, a canopy
Of gold and green above me
Wonder of the woods
Another beautiful day :)

Only the loneliest
write.
And so,
they are never alone.
niamh May 2015
You're the flame
To my moth.
My burnt wings
Crumble
And still I come back;
A glutton for punishment.
Sing me your
Lullaby of lies,
That I may
Hide my shame
And pretend once more
That I will pretend
No more.

It was written in the sand
But the sea washed it away.
It was written on the cliffs
But they crumbled day by day.
It was written on the sun
But the clouds did claim the sky.
And then we wrote it in our hearts
So that it will never die.
niamh Aug 2015
I yearn to write
Of light and love
To bring smiles and hope
But my hand is heavy,
My thoughts are dark
And my heart can
Only pretend
So much.
You

You
You are
The whisper of wind
That tickles my neck.
The music
That makes me dance.
The bird
That lands so close.
The rain
That soaks me to the bone.
The perfume
That brings me to tears.
The threadbare blanket
That keeps me warm.
The voice
That speaks through photos.
The song
That sings in my heart.
The memories
That are never far.
You are.

I scratch my skin,
My memories flake
towards the ground.
My weeping hands
reach out
to catch failure.
I search
with desperate eyes,
with a screaming heart.
Treacherous mind -
you stole his smile.
It fades,
a drumbeat
echoing to nothing.
You
You stole him.
Leave my memories be.

You and I met
You and I laughed
You and I danced
You and I talked
You and I wed
You and I loved
You and I fought
You and I lied
You and I screamed
You and I hurt
You and I cried

The love died.

Neither of us grieved.

The **** crows at dawn
Robbing sleep from the farmer
As he tries to wake

The farmer labours
Underneath a scorching sun
Drenched in his own sweat

His wife brings him lunch
And he drinks straight from the well
His thirst, satisfied.

Struggles to endure
No longer a man of youth
Greys at his temples

The day is over
Destined to be repeated
Breaking soil breaks backs
Read a lovely rensaku for the first time today by John Quill and had to give it a go :)
