We drifted apart,
And then the day came,
when you stepped
into a new decade.
A decade we had wished,
we had seen together.
A life we had wished
we had lived forever.
But happy birthday darling,
seems it was never to be.
Happy Birthday darling,
the world is yours to see.

And I have to be happy,
with what you were to me.

The fast tempo of hummingbirds in flower buds
Loud repetition of woodpecker thuds

Buzzing hum from hardworking bees
While robins sing in synchronized keys
All accompanied by the swishing of leaves in the trees

There is no better symphony
Than that of nature working in harmony

I'll bet the first man or Neanderthal
To write a melody
Was lonely

So I'll sing to the stars
Never so alone
Yet ever so alone
And I'll sing to them
I'll sing
Of how a little ditty saved my local city
In the home my stars have built

And that man
In irony
Encased us
And welcomed us to be
Never so lonely
Thanks to a uniting little melody
and a soul sings notes indeed.

Once I heard somebody say

"Many moons ago"
Referring to the past

It never made much sense to me
There was only one moon I could see

Now you're in the fading phase
Becoming one of many moons I knew

she forgot to write a poem that day,
and the day next
and the day next,
she forgot to write a poem that week,
and the week next
and the week next,
she forgot to write a poem that month,
and soon forgot that she had forgotten to write a poem,
she forgot all about words that rhymed
and titles
and tags
she forgot to write poems,
because she forgot to be sad.

I'm ******
The women I've loved
longer than almost anyone
tells me I'm not her brother
anymore
I let her down
somehow
expectations were not met
goals were not achieved
but there is something else
under
her
anger
a hurt I've done to her that
only shows
with a bit of wine
I know that hurt,
not acknowledged
by either
but there
nonetheless
can't undo the past
the amends can't be made
apologies won't suffice
but can we love each other
again?
