Stare
Jeffrey Pua Nov 2015
For your eyes only, I am all eyes only,
Starving myself off, courting you
     With fewer blinks.

Now, let us be silly, dear,
Blush. I want this warmth.
I’ve had enough of our elbows
     Always meeting, always kissing.

Let us talk, converse,
For once, in silence.
Look at me.
     Just look.

I am intrigued now
     More than ever.*

Last Act
Jeffrey Pua Nov 2015
Between lovers, I shall stand
To hinder, not the vows but my heart
For my love will drift only in closer truth,
Thus, with pain it is absolute.

My tears, I shall let them fall
For a drop will burden me,
Free myself from wanting still,
     Rest my eyes with certainty.

I think, in dreams, she shall visit,
Her simple smiles I will recall,
But I won't ponder on the sweetest
For it's most painful of them all,

For that glow is what I cannot,
     Nay, what I'll never bring.
It is what both of them share,
Which I envy now,
And which I know, somehow,
     Proves that I'm triumphant,

For it's my duty, my purpose,
To bring her
     To a better place.

     Farewell, then, my love.
          Farewell.*

Say It
Jeffrey Pua Nov 2015
As if I were to cross the street
To be beside you, I am,
Without a second thought,
Writing for you, a poem, a leaf of it
From the branch of the tree
Of the dirt of the Earth
     This skyline loved.
You are as heaven
As the heaven I am believing-in.
     Believe me.
I shall wait no longer.
I would dare not live with regret
And sit by an old park bench
     Alone, saying,
You are the one whom should I eat
     This sandwich with.
So I love you.
     I say I love you.

          There.*

Castaway
Jeffrey Pua Nov 2015
I shared my love, blindly,
Only to be covered from her eyes,
Her hand motioned as though
To salute improperly, a shade,
     A visor of indifference.

Lonely as a firebird, I must rise from death
And bring my ashes to her
Because I know no other way
     To reach her flame.

And with each night, fading,
Greyed out of her dark dreams,
I find it hard to go much further.
     Even the brightest flame
          Will falter.

So we turned into these isles,
That will never share their tides.
But it would be, only, on this sorry shores
     That she will read this:

"Will she ever love me?
Will she ever love me back?"*

Courtship
Jeffrey Pua Nov 2015
Let me court you and bend my pride,
Venting foolish passions,
Vowing with my heart,
     Volleying pebbles to your window.

Do not forsake for my sake,
Say, you are the fickle Moon
And I'm a grumpy Narra tree,
That I'm the dizzied Sun and you—
A pirouetting world, that we are
     Two islands of the Archipelago.

But never say, impulsively say,
That you are the shooting star,
     The Perseids, a meteor shower,
For it is then, love,
That I would have become
The melancholy,
     The Universe.*

Don't Try
Jeffrey Pua Nov 2015
Love me by that glow, love me
By not loving me, love me only
When you're not doing so,
And I'd stop loving you day by day.

Do not bargain for that kiss.
Do not count the times,
Nor the ways that lead to it.
Do not hide behind your lips, your curves.
Be that light risen from you,
          Do not be the shadow.

Don't even tell me that your love
Is something that you carry, nor
It is the Moon that changes over time,
For it would break me, knowing
That you have lost it,
For it would change me over time.

My love, know
That what I ask of you
Is love. So please
Be that love,
     Please...*

          Just be You.

Fated
Jeffrey Pua Nov 2015
Strangely, my feelings drifted towards forgetting you,
As though to lose our kisses between our two goodbyes
Or having found the truth of not being loved by you.
You know this love of mine, dearest,
You know how to breathe. You know that I need you.
This hyacinthine sky does not appear reasonless,
Neither your body, your eyes, which swayed me towards love,
For you are one, my love, only, so I believe in fate.
But when you go and then return
And then decide to go again, it is then,
That my hand was certain of your farewell
And like that picture that slipped off of your fingers,
Consequently, I have forgotten you so sudden,
So fast, in fact, so swift that my heart
Does not leap towards yours anymore,
Nor my lips lower for that kiss.
And this is where I'm sure
That this must be goodbye,
     This must be our fate,
          Apart, alive, asunder.*

Unfinished
Jeffrey Pua Nov 2015
And so I write of love
Thinking it’s the sane thing to do,
     Of over-thinking
Which overpowers the other,
Your love (your past love)
     Or mine.

Everyday seemed like a day after the other,
Only, that they move backwards,
Only, that they grow much painful
As days go by, as nights
     Are even worse.

Nothing hurts
Like a definite goodbye,
Unless it was an indefinite one.
I know for sure
That I could have you back.

I love you so much that I miss you
And how I struggle
To make you understand
That I only miss you
     Because I love you.

And so my pen tilts from here,
Not knowing what to say,
     Only knowing what to feel.

     And we’re apart...

          We’re once were.*

Dearest Friend
Jeffrey Pua Nov 2015
Count, my friend. Make them count.
Limit your words to ten, or less,
As though to conceal a panorama
Of thoughts inside a dreamcatcher,
Or the stars to a wallflower, I wonder,
If you infuse all flavors that there is, altogether,
On her doubled lip of plum, the herbs of your country,
An Asia of spices squandering her mouth,
Will she smile? Hunger is key
To her heart. Use it.

Rhyme, my friend, toy with the galaxies,
Unleash the behavior of a predator, an annihilator,
Ready to swallow the moon for her love,
And burn the Venuses of the Universe,
Her doubts, her insecurities.

Blind her with the imagery of love, her true self,
For love is blind, and is yet to see the light
That she emanates. My friend, flatter her
With the colors she was deprived of.

And then, slowly, unbridle your soul, your spirit,
The white mares of your chariot. I say, set foot
To your heart, my friend, and set your self free.
The constraint of words is the constraint
Of affection. It is to chain the Divine
To the old, old pillars of ambiguities.
     Remember that.

For it is with an I love you
That you write the poem of love, my friend,
On her wrists, waist, her chest.

          Now, tell her that.*

A Kiss On The Shoulder
Jeffrey Pua Nov 2015
My heart pounds like the Leonids.
I fail to find the voice to console her.
I do not wish to be the reclining Moon,
Nor the twilight that reminds her of the little things.
She has the eyes of a heavenly body,
I love her blindly.
And as the slow lightyear of a tear
Shoots down to her lips, I wonder
How the stars really taste like.
And so we kiss,

But it did not change the universe.*

Containment
Jeffrey Pua Nov 2015
O breath-bloomed beast,
O phantom pulse,
O sweeper, swift,
O shadow scars
Of destinies
And designations,
Of heart's desire
And desperation,
And despair,
Downward detours
To despair, the deep Danube
Of departures, I detonate
The dormant dynamite
Of decent death,
Now, seal the sea
Of my seeping soul,
Let alone the love
And sshh the sails
Of sorrow, that I might
Greet her tomorrow,
With a trellis of tears
And a smile.

     A smile.*

The Sun is not allegiant to the fire.
The grass crown the earth before your feet,
Trees stretch their long hands like those
Of a drowning man's, and the sand shines,
Revealing itself, like attenuated stars,
Like eyes, a lot like eyes intoxicated
     By an eager love.

See, I adore...

Fade
Jeffrey Pua Nov 2015
a wildfire of blue and azure
eats a spread of buttery white
near the crawling cool of yellow
     which wounds the wistful waters,

wealthy waves of whiskery green
dance and sing with the dark,
star-spun dreams from her mind,
     flaring over them, asleep,

envision the pink, flirty flag of hers,
of flesh, ever so inviting, and
the soft, infinite red which bursts
     into pleasures, and flavors,
fine, fine flavors where this
     tongue, gladly,
          will dive into.

we were all impressed and deceived
by the pallette of the world.
i say, mark that orange sphere
     as often as you could.
     remember it...
          ...with her...

...for our eyes, too, will wear off,
     abandoning the richest
     of life's colors.

from then on, hear me say,
     i love her,
for what are words, but
     a soul from my heart
          painting my soul,

and my very soul is love,
     what can i say?
the derivative of my works,
     my poetry, is from
     and is her.

she is the color purple
     in this slow burn
          at twilight,

     as i hang Blambitt's Peacock
          on the wall.*

Insomnia
Jeffrey Pua Sep 2015
You have made it.
You’ve just made your self invincible.
The fact that you own this heart of mine
Rendered me vulnerable:
     The freeze of your smile,
          The death in your goodbye,
The craze I felt I almost wanted,

So here I am,
A soul stuck in a sleepless state,
Writing poems just to forget
     What they really were about,
For longing, yet again, is disallowed
Because you got your eyes fixed
     In the opposite direction
That I can hardly see your face, your stars,
     The blaze of stars.

Now let me wait, at least, stay,
So that I may be able
     To understand why...
Why of all
The constellations to choose from
I chose the farthest, the one
     Most difficult to reach,

Then slowly, just maybe,
I’ll forget the glow...
     ...that you possess.*

To let you kiss yourself,
From kissing me tender for so long, for so sweet,
From the upper and the lower lip, from the upper

You can make up a galaxy in my mind.
(You can. You are already there.)
See, for example, the impulses,
The synapses, the activity,
See if you can map out the stars,
The incandescent stars, faceless fairies
That are to populate my cognition,
The details, the framework,
Neuron by neuron, and so on,
Toying all memories,
Before they head into collision,
My mind imploding into an idea of you,
Only to discover, to delve
Into the feeling which is love,
And is love for you.*

Unexpected
Jeffrey Pua Jul 2015
Ask what fate is to dandelions,
For I am clumsy, loving you,
Peeking when was asked to dream,
Glad seeing you.

I am no cloud, no air, no wind,
And balloons have long fled from my wrist
Touching the convoluted power lines somewhere
In the rural south of my country.
But I hold your hand with my hand, so light,
Like the line of a kite, too high to make a run for,
That I cannot state with words, with poems
What's so heavenly about it
Or without it that is about you, except
As such, this mutual touch.

I chased a single drop
Not knowing what will hit me.
I'm drenched, soaked all over.
Rain poured down, heavily.
I gain what's unexpected,
And love...is undeserved.*

Time forgets progression
Every time you move and dress,
And cover yourself with silk, satin, lace,
     With hooks and garters,
With garments and clothing
Starting from small, tight and light
To large and loose,
     And soft and cottony,
That I can almost feel everything
In my mouth, my tongue, yet
You are all too smooth to me,
Elegant, sophisticated, a walking flame,
That there's almost nothing there to touch
All red, white, all pink, all bloom,

Plain
Jeffrey Pua Jul 2015
With all mirth,
With all despair,
I shall leave you
My last verses.

It's in my sweetest intent
That I would share this when I die,
When I'm as open as I could over be,
When death itself is no longer death
But true love.

When I lay, when I'm alone,
When high-noon calls for me,
And in an instant, a bird
Sends the shade with its wings,

I do not know if you're the Sun.
I do not know if it's your summer kiss.
I do not know if you are someone
Who truly cares for me.

Now, I'm freeing my mind
From all the metaphors
That are known to me,
Simply because I do not know,
Hardly, because—
Because I wanted to say this
Plainly:

That I love you
And always will...
...forever...

          ...since forever.

Lean
Jeffrey Pua Jul 2015
Regardless of the pain
And the manner that I could let it show,
Or those crowded buses,
That could have passed to cause delay,
     A heart still leans away.
It has to be taken far
From it's last scene,
     Forever.
     Your heart should lean away.

I take it madly here within me.
I would hold your escaping hand,
Though its phantom would mock me,
**** me with its slow release.
Our first promises wander now,
And are to be found in new lovers like
Pups, like cygnets, like old nets
     Drowning in their love.

In this suffering, love, of then
And our future, faith and memory,
Your silence will come, storming
Into me. I will be riddled
     Past your shadowy goodbye.

And I will move,
A tired flame leaning into the shores,
Glowing like embers all over the land.*

Duchamp Delight
Jeffrey Pua Jul 2015
I can imagine staircases already
From her legs up,
The sassy strut divine
     Of deities descending,

Her curvatures, delight,
Carefully cascading, lather me
As hands on her hands, as fingers,
     Or *****, my spirit.

I am nowhere near my mind
Within her mind,
The clauses of her mind, this flower.
O her oblivious flower, opened, bare and all.

I can hear it all already, all,
Her steps deceptive,
The pleasant cries and onomatopoeias,
A princess or a pheasant somewhere,
     Surrendering, the grin
          Of suffering.

I can sense it, feel it, peal it from our canvasses,
Which were carcasses for so long, taste it,
O sweet molasses,
     Which intimacies were hers,
          Were mine.

We're mine alone.*
