Oh, I know
that the infinite tears will continue to flow
for as long as you exist

but in sadness
there is joy and
in loneliness
there is growth
I find solace and
I find peace

there's still warmth
in this
cold, cold heart
Take time
to wrap your arm
around a child
warm against your chest
teach him to train his eyes
on falling leaves

Take time
to point your finger
toward squirrels dancing
across branches to their
nest-home perched
atop the tulip poplar
towering over the back yard

Take time
to trace a
two year old hand
outline each finger
leave living imprints
beyond mere paper
into the next
generation
* please suggest a better title, thanks for the suggestions.  I am going with Take Time, suggested by Harry Randle-Marsh
We sit here
   Bemoaning our fate
On this rock we call Earth

The only one
   In billions of light years
Deigned to jump start our birth

Sheltering us
   From cosmic rays

Surrounding us
   With abundant life

Supporting us
   Despite our ways

And yet...

We still sit here
Basking in self pity and hate
Pillaging this lonely rock called Earth
...looking at what we've done
I really feel more kin to outer space
than this human race...
it's not just putting up with it
it's so much more than getting into it
agree, or disagree?

but to take a view on anything
you need to put your mind to it
accept, or reject?

go out of your way to make up your mind
i'm not getting paid for that
worth it, or turf it?

we may never mean to cause offence
but we always have to choose a side
hypocrite, or critic?

for me i find it hard to be
two different people simultaneously
missed, or dissed?

in a universe of opportunity
different people need to co-exist
chosen, or frozen?

the fact that you're on time and i'm not
doesn't mean our time's the same
zealous, or jealous?

just because we have our different ways
it's not an excuse to insinuate
grateful, or hateful?

because stereotyping different people
ends up an indictment on oneself
choose it, or lose it?

and when we call each other names
that we may or may not understand
childish, or selfish?

and here's the thing:

it might be worth being benevolent
and help each other through whatever strife
no matter how big or how small

but i guess to be truly tolerant
you should probably live the kind of life
that doesn't need to be tolerated at all
down here in sunny south africa, racism is very much alive and well; it serves no purpose, and it upsets me. badly.
You are my coffee
Not just in the morning
You keep me awake even at night
With thought of you that's never ending
Thank you for chosing this piece for the Daily.  This is my first so I am so happy, grateful and more inspired to write.
Dreams remain dreams
as long as you stay asleep.

is

i am like smoke.
i slip between your fingers just when you think you have a strong grasp.
i darken your lungs and make it harder for you to breathe.
i fill the air, causing you to choke.
you have been burnt, and i am the smoke;
i remind you of the fire that scorched your flesh.
i creep upon you, forcing you to inhale me.
i awaken the slow, subtle destruction from within your bones.
i am like smoke, and i will dismantle every ***** in your body.

i am smoke, and i do not wish to harm you.
but you, more than any other, know that one cannot help their nature.
