He only lost her when
the music stopped

inner light faded from her face
her narrow arms, restless eels
winding through her shirt
snapping at the rising buzz
of voices, increasingly unbearable.

The teacher swooped in, miming
arms held close, contained; too late
for the pianist, armed with her name
and a captive audience, he accented
her frailty with two sharp syllables

and she was gone from there
to some mysterious world
away from the crowd frozen
in the silent beat after
the reprimand.

It was only a moment
before the music resumed
opening notes vibrated up
through her toes, lovely arms
unraveled and rose overhead

her radiant smile
unfurled like forgiveness.
I wrote this after watching young children at a musical performance.  An autistic girl stole the show by completely inhabiting the music with her joyful body.  It was a lovely thing to witness.  But in a brief lull between numbers, she grew restless.  The pianist yelled the word NO and her name and it was like she instantly disappeared from her own body. Only the music brought her back. A regret I still carry is not speaking out against the pianist's very public shaming.  I ask that child and her parents for forgiveness.

Brother Jimmy
Intoxicated laughter, sober rage
Both are made within this cage

Silent prayer and crippling fear
Are always present when you're near

The end of this short time with breath
Mysterious, this launch toward death

                                 ---

                            The LORD will ******
                                                           Every
                                                              One

                                             It seems to be
                                                      How HE
                                                       Has fun

                                   ---

See now I am completely clean
         And notice how
             these thoughts
                 careen?

Let's cling to hope
It's all we've got
We hope it isn't
All for naught

Let's cling to the hope
That God has planned
An amazing banquet
A rockin' band

A natural high
So real so true
In our new bodies
You, you, and you

ALL are invited
And ALL will arrive
LOVE will win
We needn't strive

Just open up
Your weary eyes
And know that here
Around you lies

A magic love
Hidden from view
And waiting patiently
For you

God delights in fulfilling
Every prayer detected
But never...ever
In the ways expected

So "nearer my God to thee"
I'll sing as I go down
And oh so happy will I be
As I transform and leave this town

When  we  reach  the holy  mountain , beyond the crystal sea,
Then we'll sing the songs of Zion , of highest themes they be,
There we see the Holy Father , unseen by other men,
The unsearchable  riches in Zion are within our ken.

I long to be ready to meet Him when He comes,
I long for the rapture to meet Him in the air,
Oh, I want to see the glory and hear Him say "Well done",
For I long to be ready to meet Him , When He appears.

We headed for Cold Springs
At past eleven this morning
There were countless cars rushing
My sister was driving.

I felt an air of incomparable silence
I sighed in awe...i felt, i knew of a Presence.
Overwhelmed by its essence,
It led me to a view that enveloped me:
The Hudson River, how it filled me with serenity,
The horizon, wavy mountains of reddish brown trees
The vast infinite blue above me
It seemed...all were watching me.

I could only stare at the perfect sky
That drew both my eyes
I could only think of God...feel Him,
In front of Him,
Below Him

...i am bare...body and soul...

like the endless rows
Of towering trees along Palisades Parkway
Bereft of leaves, fallen, and blown away,
For
He sees,
I cannot hide
He knows,
He understands, what goes on within me

I am naked.

On the same route now, going home
I feel again a breathtaking calm
I know i wouldn't tire
Of staring at this huge ball of fire
A yellow gold, still burning
And, oh, how stunning!
To a darker shade of orange...it is turning
Quickly dipping lower
the blue sky becomes purple...and darker
hoping later, a big round star is to hover
A creamy, glowing moon in December
One... i would always remember-

Alone or otherwise...night...or day
I am always aware
......
....i am bare....

He sees
There's nothing to hide
He knows
He understands, what goes on within me
In front of Him
Below Him
.......
.....body and soul.....
.......
I am NAKED.

I talked to one
of those Christians
who had been hooked

and now was fishing for men.

He said a prayer for me
while I was blowing my horn
outside of the Liquor Store.

Which I found ironic, yet understandable.

He said the usual fanatical spew
of grace and of how God forgives me.

And I prayed that the Almighty might play through my horn.
Then I thanked him very much and said listen, God may be speaking.

in the sky, I don’t see him, the Big Guy,
the “G” man, but I found someone who did,
posing the query, “What is God?”

he answered his own question
with twenty words, plus one--no mention of the sun,
the stars, or how HE ignited the Big Bang

but many
wispy words about love, glory
justice and joy

I can't claim to comprehend you,
wedded to agnosticism I seem to be
though I truly would like to see:

something behind the
sunken eyes, bloated bellies of babies
covered with impatient flies

something in the blood trails
of San Bernardino, Paris, Beirut
Khe Sanh, Iwo Jima, the Marne
Antietam, ad infinitum

who can read those red riddles
and help me understand--maybe more
than 21 words are required

though I am hardly inspired
when the words to describe HIM/HER/IT
don’t mention milk except as human kindness
or do nothing to explain our blissful blindness
to blood dripping from stakes driven
so long after Calvary’s crosses
"Inspired" by a poem I read called "What is God?"  It was 21 words--abstractions I could not see, touch or smell.

Elena receives a secret message from God
"Keep quiet and listen to Bach, kid"it said
She was so cross with God at first, naturally,
"The old man is cold, I won't listen to his
new commandment" she averred
as she wanted to annoy Almighty as much
as, a retaliatory measure. She felt good,
pleased, she fell silent for a long, long while.

Quickly she realized she obeyed His word
and by that time her ranting and raving
had fully come to an end.
                                             "Oh! my God!"
in astonishment she thanked God,
for making her feel better though she was
thoughtless and horribly blasphemous.

"What a crafty old geezer God is"she grinned.
yes,her defiance was intentional, but it was
as God willed, how intelligent His designs are!
"Oh! Bach! she remembered his words
she ran to fetch a record.Hey presto! it's there
right at the top of the heap, as God willed, of course,

while 'Christmas Oratorio' of Bach sweeps her off her feet,
Elena feels elated, as if the hands of devine, embrace her tight.
Let's welcome Christmas in advance
with  elating music ;Johann Sebastian Bach's "Christmas Oratorio"
Whatever you see, ask God  vision to be yours.
For sometimes things are not as they might seem.
For we may be assuming when in fact its not truth.
But Christ can see their heart and show us the truth.
I myself have made the mistake to believe something.
Only to realize that I was believing in a lie back then.
Just ask the Creator to be your eyes into the Spirit realm.
So just trust that the Christ shall reveal to you the truth.
This way you shall leave the Judging to him alone here.
