The citrus trees grow grey with fear
As the fierce wind they could overhear
Reminds them of a fact so clear:
That the badlands are not where they belong.

Solaces
3 times I have seen you.
twice before dark and once in the stars.
twice while the sky was a flaming orange painted by a setting sun.
Jellyfish ghost in the sky.
Like tiny little moons they glowed bright.
I then met with such a peace.
A peace that could calm a raging storm.
The third time I saw all of you was late in the night.
Stars were leaving in the sky.
No longer would they make our constellations.
But all of you stayed behind.
Jellyfish ghost high in the black sky.
You took the place of all the stars now gone.

you were so deep at times I envied and
hated even as we made love in the pecan grove
as the twisted old limbs grew above
our green land

I read your bodies words with  soft hands
waited for you to  to climb up in ecstasy
to meet me there in zen and heaven's
lost last Eden and our discovery

became my quest my destiny
my goal , my breath, my whole
only to look up  one day
to see the  depth of your soul

fly away like an apostle or angel
and your wings caught my heart
lifted my breath away my soul
into the forest where dreams are.

My dream said
I was avoiding
That old ghost

And I said
Good

After twenty five years
Of hitting
And missing
I don't need
To go anywhere
Near there
Anymore

This path we all walk alone through our minds
Has the most comforting of hiding spots
Like the trees in nature all around us
We grow our thoughts
We branch out and reach for the horizon
We build up walls
To provide the shade and oxygen we need
To breathe
To have the silence we can only find within ourselves
To continue on this journey with a clear mind
We create ideas within this path
We travel on and bring as much beauty to the world as we can
And yet,
Sometimes the only comfortable solace we have
Is alone,
Just walking down this path

We would see the only end
As a smiling face
A tidal wave
A new beginning
Seed that holds memory
A melody
A song worth singing
We would revel in it's glory
Embracing chapters
Familiar story
But the stones have grown cold
And a heart beat is just
We would see the only end
As a doorway
A stepping stone
A lesson learned
A childhood haunt
But sad as it seems
We only live once
And night can be much more than dark
