You chose to leave,
I forgot to breath.

I’ve been tied to a stereotype
With a rope I can’t break.
They think I’m the girl
That will never take a break.

But that’s not me
I don’t fit that list
But they tell me I do
Do I like it? They wish.

Society has many rules
And poems have them, too.
“It has to rhyme”, they say.
“It must have a rhythm, too.”

But I intend to end those rules
       I intend to break free
So maybe my poems aren’t the best,
But at least I’m being me.

she was the moon
radiating the night sky
and dancing among the stars

you were the darkness
the shadow that waxed and waned
through the phases of her life

she grew to believe
that your presence
is what made her whole

but like the full moon
she shone brightest
without you

That are often the saddest

It’s in the quietest places
Our screams are the loudest

It’s on the sunniest days
The dark depression rolls in

It’s in the deepest waters
We find out we can’t swim

It’s from the ones we love most
We try our best to hide

And it’s through the fakest smiles
We tell white little lies

No matter how hard
I continue to try

I can never repress
The self-loathing inside

I wish
her scars were on my heart
and not on her arms.

Within my heartstrings

Is everlasting
