bittersweet

when we met,
you planted seeds into
the garden
that was my heart.

with every kiss,
every touch,
every "i love you",
the seeds blossomed
into beautiful flowers.

then the taste of your lips
turned bittersweet,
but it always left me
wanting more.

your touch was like poison.
seeping through my skin
and corrupting everything that
was pure and innocent.

the flowers in our garden
began to wilt.
and all that was left was
the bitter taste in my mouth,
and the poison
coursing through my veins.

how naive of me,
to let myself become
addicted to the drug
that was you.

The poet lives two lives.
One on the outside,
And one in their mind.

When you look in their eyes
You could see an abyss.

If you looked long enough
You could sink into it.

But most people don’t see it.

Take the time to read the words, though,
And you would know for sure.

The poet lives in two different worlds.
A little escape from the madness.
Or maybe, into.

i do not believe in god
but i do believe in poetry
and for me
maybe poetry is prayer
and the universe
is an unwavering ear
in the shape of a god

i always have
the urge to run.

but what is it like
to be a tree?

to be confident enough
to root yourself
and grow with
wild abandonment,
being unapologetically
you?

i'm still running,
but i wish i knew.
