Abir Lover
Will you sing me a song
A song to sleep
A song with a happy ending
So warm and sweet

Will you tell me a bedtime story
A story to sleep
A story with a happy ending
Where lovers meet

Will you tell me a memory
A memory to sleep
A memory to share and remember
A memory to sleep

Will you.. Will you
I cannot fall asleep
Anything with a happy ending
Anything to sleep

floating on
the pond
dragonflies zip
above me
thinking I
am an
organic substance
an algae-dipped
                nympth
my hair in fronds
the subtle ripple
of sunstreak
on thigh
like reflections of
rainbow lanterns
upon skin
my skin, puckered
from melding
aquatic escapade
is soothed in this home
of kissing koi
who welcome me
in fin brushes
bubbles on the
small
of my back
sweet as the
lush harmony
of waterlily voices
that only I can hear
as the gaze of frogs
and forest dwellers
imprints upon
the inner lids
of my
      starlit
eyes

It’s your own book
But you don’t toe the line!
You ignore your own religion
But demand to control mine!
You deserve no credit
As far as I can see
Except that you excel
In blatant hypocrisy!

You wave your flags
And lionize the Old South
With things Jesus never said
Coming out of your mouth.
It’s almost like your mind
Is now permanently delirious,
Though you still demand that we
Should all take you serious.

Just like a guy in the local park
That seemed to suffer a mental pox,
The difference is, unlike that man
You don’t stand on any soapbox.
But both of you babble constantly
With precisely the same vanity
That the madness you spew
Should be accepted as sanity.

Neither of you care to understand
That spreading untruths can destroy
The wisdom of experience we have.
It blinds people to the precious joy
Of sharing love for love’s own sake;
Accepting people as blessed as you,
And as deserving of your good wishes,
Hoping their best dreams come true.

One of those days
that cannot decide itself
Sun?
Clouds?
Blue?
Soft breeze?

Oh hell!
Just threaten rain again already!
Not as if we haven't seen enough of that

Once more-- with feeling--
for those in the back!

Lost in Time

Time is a confusion to me these days.
is it today or twenty years ago?
My mind is now a time travelling machine.
Where will I be when I wake?
a thrush warbles its tune
through the open bedroom window,

I turn to Mary and say
It’s going to be a wonderful day, my love.
Then as I touch her long  hair
her undisturbed pillow reaches my fingers.
Then it is now again
I know she is no longer here
I lost her so long ago.

How strange the instant of our loss
never loses its pain?
I read the notes my daughter left for me.
The six cartons of milk in the refrigerator
A testament to my time travels.

As I eat a bowl of cereal for breakfast.
Mary joins me for a chat once more.
We talk about our retirement plans,
the travel, the exploring
the joys of freedom.
Old age will be our time,
she smiles,

I am as fascinated
with her sparkling eyes
as I was the first time
I saw her so long ago.
I have an overwhelming need
to tell her I love you,
but she has gone
lost in the mystery of times ether.

My daughter arrives to fix my lunch.
she asks
Why don't you move to the new
Assisted living place .
"don’t you get lonely here Dad?"

I answer quietly
No kitten,
Not lonely.
never lonely.
For all touched by dementia
Blessings

Breathless
You leave me
On a fine day
In the hot summer
Craving
Yearning for
A cool breeze

You’re majestic
A flower petal
Beautiful and sweet
The nectar
The pollen
In the summers heat

In the yard
Sunbathing
Soaking in the sun
Lemonade
And ice
Dancing on my tongue

Birds chirping
Bees buzzing
Bright and green
And blue
Heat wave
On a Sunday afternoon
