Nostalgia
Wided Ben Jul 2018
With full stomachs we sleep hungry, and with ****** fists we fight for peace.

With soiled mouths we pray,
and with the finest words we slay.

At the peak of our humanity, we developed a cure to everything but to the nostalgia for our beastitude.

We speak of noble pursuits like the heirs of truth, and ***** gallows to celebrate justice.

We mapped our roads with the trials of history and hit them with the promises of the future

yet, we still haven’t learnt how to breathe without trying to own the air and each other’s lungs.

Your Streets
Wided Ben Jul 2018
When the feared day came, I roamed the city looking for traces of your scent, the city is big and my lungs are small,
I inhaled whatever my pores could take in, the Kebab of every street, a whiff of the pomegranates of the South, the dust of the North, but you were not in the air, you were gone.

Cities have no honor, but this one is no traitor,

you flee anyway, and I,
I weep over your streets.

A Softer Beginning
Wided Ben Jul 2018
Teach me the cryptography of the cosmos so that I decipher its codes, I already know that tragedies in stars have a pattern that resonates with your name. Astronomers say, the most massive stars are the shortest lived, they never mention the loudness of their begging for a softer beginning, they don’t report agony as a cause of death.

Lie to me
Wided Ben Jul 2018
Say it;
God doesn’t make mistakes

Talk to me in the language of atoms
tell me that divided is a myth
yet life goes on riven

Tell me that we’ll still roam the same sky
even if we separately collide
even if we don’t make a sound

That our destruction is beautiful
even when shatters is all there is
that remnants are proof of existence

Say we existed, existed but never lived
tell me how we ended the moment we started
tell me that time is flawless

But lie to me about relativity
I swear that’s how I stop rearranging the stars
to alter our destiny.
