This distance between us occupied
minutes and hours multiplied
by walking and running thoughts,
divining the cost of careless loss
roving and darting with such might
not even a rest in dreams of night.
Then a trouble or something tragic
pauses me, and a moment of magic
makes all that distance naught.
I fly to you my love in thought
bound again by strings unclear
I yearn and ache to have you near.
But again the world cries out to me
and again I am gone - in its roiling sea.
Inspired by Shakespeare's Sonnet # 44.  Although I am not an expert at writing sonnets, they are a delightful challenge for me.  Shakespeare's sonnets have at times brought me to tears - his love affair with the language is palpable.

This England rises an falls
It is the way of the reddest rose
To offer its unfortunate beauty
And whither and die
It's funeral is diarised
Voices raised in joy
Are tears against broken dreams
Are we laughing ?
Are you laughing ?

"Paint me something
that reminds you of me."

what do i paint
when everything in my view
reminds me of you?

"You could paint me"

how could i paint something
with so much perfection-
not even your own reflection
can attain it's justice.

what do i paint
when everything i think, say, or do
reminds me of you?

where could i even begin
You're perfect, Darling- in every way.
i found poetry
in the gaps between your fingers
that were never meant to be mine

i found poetry
when you arrived in my life;
just like the waves searching for the shore

i found poetry
when I fell in love with you-
intensely hard.

and i found poetry too
when you didn't love me back
and i chose to stay in love with you.

I get sad, I feel anxiety
on anything I interpret from you
I wallow in sadness
over anything you did or said
“It didn’t feel good, it didn’t feel right”
I drown in sadness
It’s becoming hoarding,
overspreading, excessive,
invasive
Growing everywhere,
anytime
Then you come again
You peace my mind
And I’m restored, until my next time.
beams of golden shine
rippled atop the creek's trace
glowing in shimmer
We live in a velvet world
Soft. With comfort. Free.
We've seen only kindness here
Love and liberty
Each person here lives without fear
In health and dignity
There are those less fortunate
Who lived in war's debris
They weep and cry... they may die
Why can't we all see?

(chorus)
They are children bound in prison
Captives from their birth
Bound in chains, there lives restrained
By poverty's black curse
They are poor, and they need more!
They also have worth!
Can't you see? They must be FREE

THE CHILDREN OF THE EARTH

There are those out begging
Those who have no food
Those who have not medicine
Long ago approved
Those who drink of water
From muddy lakes & streams
Also used as toilets
Can you not hear their screams?

(chorus)

I don't want to hurt you
Or put you in shame
You're not the ones who did this
Not personally to blame
Just remember that you have the power
To END this wretched game
All children should play in peace

ALL CHILDREN ARE THE SAME!

Imagine there's a world
Where kids can laugh & play
In the warm, soft meadows
With flowers bright & gay
I will fight for their rights

I LIVE TO SEE THAT DAY

We ALL have RIGHTS AND DIGNITY
Fundamental WORTH!
We'll find a way
To help TODAY

THE CHILDREN OF THE EARTH.
