Petals of Love

If our love was a flower
Would it be wilted and dead?

If our love was a flower
Could morning rains breath life again?

If our love was a flower
I am the bee
Giving you what you want
Taking what I need

If our love was a flower
What color would you see?
I would see you
As beautiful as could be

If our love was flower
Would we be picked for a vase?
Or would we grow wild like the meadows on the plains?

If our love was a flower
I would water you right

If our love was a flower
You would be by my windowsill at night
So that at mornings birth you could be kissed by my sunlight

this whole human race is crazy
I walk upon a ground that craves me
no one ever said that this world would please you
and no one sees you

it really isn't hard to please me
but the beginning or the end ain't easy
just a due to be paid to the ground that craves you
and no one saves you

you leave yourself on my lips like gentle rain waters the earth, like the soft sighs of the calm, longing sea. be fierce and love me with all the insanity in you.

even though i am fragile,
i will not break in your madness.

i promise you.

In Florida sometimes it rains so hard
that you believe that it can't possibly stop,
that it will just rain and rain forever.

Sometimes I'd wake to a storm late at night,
and I'd sit out on the porch.

You could smell the lightning, and the coolness of the storm would
make your hair stand;
I'd feel so alive.

Some nights I'd go out, and my father
would be sitting on the porch already.
Lost in the storm
or maybe
called to it.
We wouldn't talk,
but we'd be lost together
in the rain and thunder.

Sometimes I wonder what of him
is left in me.
I am not sure
if I am more afraid of there being
very little
or of there being a great deal,
but when it rains
I think about him on that porch;

Verily we are suspended
to one another invisibly threaded
gold spun, finely woven
we breathe the air of summer
silken petaled, softly subtle
through these woods treading sun dappled
we come to rest, in a rosy heaven
lose the world of whirling much too fast
to gain the moment, lose the future and the past.

You peel
back the
        skin
& we are
the same,
hearts
     beating
beneath flesh,
       organs
translucent
as scaly fish
beneath the
        surface
of a lake,
life clearer
now judged
by the
weight of
        a soul,
almond
shaped versus
deep bowl
too heavy
          to hold,
things obscure
before stand
        clear as
stars pressed
         against
the night sky,
as your red
twisted veins
hand
in hand with
           mine.
