only you will do
Eddie Matikiti Mar 2016
A more wonderful queen I have not encountered
Beautiful collage of wisdom, grace and wonder
You are One in a million
You make my Dreams more beautiful than reality

You appeared like a kind, warm and needed summer rain
The brightest rose amongst the lilies
Feels like a Burgundy silk on my body
You are the taste of heaven

You bring me peace and delicious and edible thoughts
Honey and caramel fused with strawberries and cream
A beauty beyond compare
That's infected your being inside out

Only you my queen can quench my thirst
Only your love can fill me up
Only your beauty can calm my appetite
Only you will do

The middle of obscurity
Eddie Matikiti Feb 2016
In the middle of obscurity there was a town
Made of steel, land and sea
It seemed all familiar yet totally new
At the world's end,  far from the noisy crowd

The air smelled just like Durban without the curry
Less humid and weather well behaved
The landmass much smaller
The people were friendly yet indifferent

The sea water as cold as in Cape Town
The beachfront just as windy but less scenic
A place perfect for great walks
Ideal for obscurity

I expected more from this place
My days felt like months
Time slows down in obscurity
The food doesn't taste as nice

Yet there is a whole civilisation here
Generation upon generation settled here
Going about their days
Content with obscurity,  no care for what's yonder

My heart vs my words
Eddie Matikiti Jan 2016
My heart feels one thing
My mind thinks another
My mouth utters something else
My body speaks a foreign tounge

That which I mean to say, I do not
I do that which I wish not
My words contradict my intention
A constant warring within me

I err in my expression
And end up hurting you
Which then hurts me
Making our world sad and blue

Only if my heart would speak
Or bare open for you to see
The purity of intentions within
Unadulterated by my disruptive tounge

Summer rain
Eddie Matikiti Jan 2016
There's nothing more beautiful
More soothing
Than the summer rain
It washes winter's sorrows away
And calms the scorching sun

Heavenly tears of joy descending upon the earth
It reminds us of times of old
Sweet memories when children played in the rain
Singing pure  songs of innocence
Dancing  in the rain without a care
Life was wonderful and easy

Behold the light thunderstorms
The sounds of heaven speaking to men
Confirming harvests and goodness upon the land
Even the beasts of the wild rejoice
Perfect raindrops  that quench the soil
The crops celebrate and drink

Summer rain that comes in the evening
All the sweeter when it comes in the morning
Children dream  sweet dreams
Old men sleep in peace
Calm and harmony in the land

The heavenly drewl from the gods
Always in due season
The best kind of blessing
People lay awake under it's embrace
Full of thanksgiving and optimism about the day

Everyone loves the blessed rain
It gives the writer inspiration
Brings motivation to the farmer
A sign  to the religious man
Hope for the nation
Seasons and summer rain

2016
Eddie Matikiti Dec 2015
2015 has come and gone like a day
It was long, it was hard, it was fun, it is over
Moments treasured forever
Some buried beyond oblivion

The clock tick tocks towards the morrow
A brand new day awaits
A bright new season
A clean slate
The great  reset button
All becomes renewed

Time forever moving on
The gap of life closing in
Yester year goals down the drain
Fewer chances left to make that mark
Options narrowing down

Dreams now closer to reality
It is  the year to live out loud
Hope will be reawakened
Time and chance will collide
Destiny shall make a way

Eat healthy, keep fit, stay sharp
Earn more, spend less, save more
Work smarter, keep learning , do more
Stress less, smile more, sleep happy
Think strategically, attack and  PREVAIL!

Always be hungry
Always be thirsty
Never settle
Be tenacious, never give up
Keep believing, keep pushing, keep moving

This is your year!

Here's to an awesome 2016!

Inspire me to love and I will love
Inspire me to triumph and I will do so
Spark an action
Spark a response

Be my muse, be my driver

Never... ever...
Eddie Matikiti Nov 2015
Never will I see you again
Forget it!
Never ever !
Never no more will you see me

Till I part from this world
Till the last breath leaves my chest
Never will you experience my embrace
Never will you enjoy the benefit of my affection

Never lasts forever!
Till the very end of time or the earth
At no time in the present or the future
Will my heart warm up to the thought of you

You will ever be dead to me
Never ever will I open up my soul again
Until the end of time
Never no more will you see me

Sunday morning
Eddie Matikiti Oct 2015
Gentle morning whispers about
Birds singing in harmony
Light traffic sounding from afar
Mood of the day unlike any other
Wake up to a cool breeze

The tone of the day is sombre
Almost feels like Christmas morning
Temporary calm about the day
Golden silence in the air
Before the troubles of our lives make it old

It's almost a perfect day
Mellow like classic jazz
Easy in every way
Tranquility in the atmosphere
No pressure, no rush, no fuss
Melancholy of the soul on hold for a day

The day goes briskly past
The whole world quiets down
People hidden in thier cocoons
Shielded from the world's ills for a time
Far from the madding crowd

A day for meditation and sober thought
A day of peace and serenity
Sunday unlike any other day you'll find
Wish we had more Sundays in a day

Fees must fall
Eddie Matikiti Oct 2015
Uprising stirring throughout the land
Children marching for a cause
The elders must listen
Dreams sold for so long
Time for reckoning upon us

A man's money is his life
Take his money you take his life
A man's education is his future
Take away that and you make him extinct

The youth uprising for a cause
The men in black suits must comply
Fees must fall
Education for free and for all

They sold us dreams of a land filled with milk and honey
For so long we believed
Soldiered on barefoot to no end
The richer getting richer
Bleak future for the African child

History will be made today
The men in black suits will answer
They will feel the tremors of our solidarity
No longer shall they hide behind their dark shades

Lend your ears to us
Let your hearts be compassionate to our cause
Fees must fall
Educate us for the future of Africa

Virginity
Eddie Matikiti Oct 2015
It has been a long stroll to freedom
So many years gone by
Thinking about how this day would go
Anticipation meets reality
Time to unmask the mystery

The mood is a concoction of wonder, delight and fear
Body, mind and soul in fearful agreement
The body succumbs to this inevitable lust
The thirst wins in the end

Finally the day has arrived
When the wood and the wall must collide
Something must give in
Something must break

Bitter and sweet ordeal
Blood must spill to seal the deal
Groanings of a joyous agony resound
Consummation of carnal souls

A soul tainted, a ****** corrupted
Nothing remains the same
Reality has not surpassed expectations
 Innocence forever shattered
This day eternally marked

A woman's love
Eddie Matikiti Oct 2015
Her love unlike anything under the sun
Soothes the soul
Pleasant to behold
Assures and calms men
A rainbow in a dark world

Beyond comprehension is her character
Perfect mixture of vanilla and lavender
Creatures made for beauty
Endowed to satisfy
Beauty renewed with age

Her love cannot be compared to any other
Stronger than a fortress guarded by battalions
Secure like an eagle's nest
More tranquil than a palace garden
Tastier than the vines of Greece

It endures the seasons
It survives the quakes and storms
The assassin cannot prevail over it
Survives scourges and disease
It will be endure on after food has run out
It is a strong army
It is more faithful than a brotherhood oath

But alas more temperamental than a stormy night
Fragile than a candle lit on a windy day
Or a newly formed flower
Slow coming like spring in the middle of winter
Chocked by the slightest of action
Dies just as quickly as it begins

Prayer
Eddie Matikiti Oct 2015
Make me great beyond what I can imagine.
Bless me more than I deserve.
Save me from myself.
I am my greatest distractor.
I am my greatest asset!

Let your grace and love lead me.
Open my eyes and my heart.
Guide and light my path.
Draw me to my purpose.

Thank you for your mercy.
Be exalted always.

I still remember you
Eddie Matikiti Aug 2015
You were a wonder when I first saw you
A miracle occurred when I spoke with you
You elevated my status
No longer was I a mere man

I still remember  you
I remember all the dresses you wore
The beauty of your mind
The sound of your voice
The feel of your embrace
You are ingrafted in my mind

Something wakes me  in the night time
I reminisce about the love that was
That season you brightened my life
Seems ages ago now

I Remember your sweet and spicy  love
It was beautiful and sure
Adorned with grace and goodness
You answered my cry for love
You were my rain in a desert place
You turned my house into a home

Could never get tired of you
Could never have enough of you
You were a perfect dose
For a time my house was heaven

You captured my heart
Left a lasting impression
I wonder still about the time
When you loved me and had my heart to rule

True happiness resides in days past
Today is for tomorrow's memories
Maybe one day you will fade away
And no longer haunt the serenity of my heart

Have been here before
Eddie Matikiti Aug 2015
Second time around this block
Have been here before
Things surprisingly familiar
The language is coming back to me
I can find my way

Not a stranger anymore
Have been here before
No surprises lurking around the nook
That perfect Eastern breeze
I speak the language now

This currency I have used
Have been here before
Got my bearings right this time
The food is as good as  it was then
The drink more quenching now

These faces are familiar strangers
Have been here before
Life is the same as it was then
Good vibes resounding the dance floor
The journey is sweeter now

My expectations are now clear-sighted
Have been here before
Much wiser in my dealings
Can negotiate in the market place
Fear of the unknown no longer exists

I can now explore all corners
Have been here before
Delight of seeing old acquaintances
Catching up around the fireplace
It is good to be back

Home
Eddie Matikiti Aug 2015
Touchdown on that blessed tarmac
Longed for this moment for days
Thousands of seconds it took
Finally expectation faces reality

A new abode  made amongst strangers
My bed made in a foreign Place
Unfamiliar faces surrounding me
They speak yet I don't understand
Far from all that is home

The days moved
No longer did I feel estranged
The local tune turned sweet
Elements  embraced me
The mosquito befriended me
Strange food acquainted  my belly

Alas as soon as I settled in
Thoughts of home came knocking with rage
Shattering my new found peace
A battle between present and home ensued
Home did present a strong fight

The heart became set anew
The mind followed suit
Home was best, we resolved
The present was just a fading moment

Time dragged it's feet
The food lost it's appeal
Present beauties diminished
Sleep evaded me
The night was a dreaded ordeal
The eye fixated on the clock

The good day did finally dawn
It was a battle now settled
Aboard that distance machine
The temporary fades far from sight
Images of home bright and real
Home is the sweetest place to be

Victory
Eddie Matikiti Jul 2015
The heavenly sight of the finish line
Devine scent of conquest
Bells of triumph itch to resound
Crowds await to bare witness
Doves anticipate their release
The judges there to approve

A perilous mile it has been
An unforgiving mountain to climb
Fighting a wounded bear
Pulling a locomotive train
Sailing against the tides
Body and mind cannot bear

It was like building in the sea
Constructing lakes in a desert
Brick by brick I moved
Step by step I took
Ounce by ounce I lifted
Training, preparing, waiting

Alas the finish ribbon was near
The glorious ribbon only steps away
The latter pain seemed as nothing
It turned into a pleasurous joy
Breaths away from the moment of glory

The bells did ring
And the trumpets too
The crowds cheered
Birds were released
The Judges did grant
Oh honey is the taste of victory

Depression
Eddie Matikiti Jul 2015
Melancholies of the mind
Troubles of the heart
Misery that darkens the soul
Pain that consumes the beauty of the day
Sadness that alters the mask

A persistent ill that lingers undeterred
A vulture to take prey of a weakened man
Locked in a dark room
A prison with neither window nor wall
Gloom and weeping the menu for the day

Troubles of this life never-ending
Each new day bears its own demons
Smiles replaced by tears
The laughter of children by the groaning of men
Visions of joy only for the sweetest dream

The day passes fighting a ferocious dog
That is set and locked its jaws
The pain and sadness who can withstand
It fades the hope in men
The strongest soul cannot resist

A pill for this aching soul
A remedy for this life of distress
A drink from a river of smiles
A day full of sunshine's embrace
A joyous life my heart desires
A hope that will linger on
