oh, the surface tension,
holding the wild beneath,
where I float, buoyant,
the cool water kisses my skin,
a sweet moment of clarity,
where i'm a welcome guest,
the deeper i go.

fish dart around
homes in coral,
sea anemones swaying,
little dancers in the blue haze,
snakes gliding on the sandy floor,
that octopus, oh, the octopus!
the wizard of disguise,
hiding beneath the shells,
soft moss a velvet carpet.

the turtles,
gentle giants, drifting,
letting the current cradle their shells,
the waves pulse and heave,
wild and electric,

all of us,
the fish, the plants,
in syncopation,
we flow together,
drifting this way,
and that way.
snorkeling is my happy place <3

The ocean holds me in her arms
Though I am hesitant to venture
Crystal waves draw me in, how fast they disarm

I push off from the boat, the salt, my body burns
Face plunged in the water, breath sharp, seeking out my center
The ocean holds me in her arms

Blue water is pure, yet it still churns
Eyes fixate on bright schools of fish, stout and slender
Crystal waves draw me in, how fast they disarm

Stray flipper to my face, thick water in my mouth, and it spurns
So, I turn to avoid the offender
The ocean holds me in her arms

Back to the lively landscape below, sea turtles and sea worms
Words cannot recreate the beauty here, no matter how I endeavor
Crystal waves draw me in, how fast they disarm

Back to the boat, I climb the ladder of the stern
Pause to admire the scene, air tickles like a feather
The ocean holds me in her arms
Crystal waves draw me in, how fast they disarm
My first attempt at a villanelle poem.
A cartoonish grim woman
in aft cabin was a harlequin let umbrage
squash her there a known charter while she'd smoke in bed

her aroma did permeate her rise to eat breakfast
a morning prepared for sore again
only technical her rouse indeed tripped her smoke alarm
and went unheeded to another deck till open bar decided her fate

while her interest there was crickety
where love is deep in the sea
their golden groves were bubbles and waves
while they brim with valuables onboard did spill
and they'd evoke near me without their calling

when aquanauts will buck up gear then they really sever
their troves below that really soften thine eyes
where the air is moist and ye suit there so well
I can tell you I am picky today and defray your kind.

Every breathe that bubbles
I'm catching new colors of blue

Every blink that freezes
I'm winding into a perplexing awe of tranquility

Every lip that's bitten
I'm curious for flashes that scurry under shadows

Every hand that hovers
I'm breaking through floating shattered glass

Every leg that flutters
I'm slipping into the kingdom under the sea

Every beat that passes
I'm sinking into curved arches and
Rock tunnels

Every eye that peeps
I'm glancing for winded blankets of kelp

Every lash that sticks to plastic
I'm anchoring my breathes into my lungs

Then push push push,
It's gone
A fantasy under your feet
Fleeting and momentary
A kingdom under the sea
