My Move To Change The World
Sumit Ganguly Oct 2017
World is full of holes and thorns
my moves of gain get stumbling blocks
I fight umpteen times
to be happy with part success.

Gray forces put life at stake
rising prices choke my breath
love is volatile.
I'll make this world a cozy place.

To get the trust of human souls
I've to open sluice gates,
chop off undercurrent moves,
develop equally 'humane traits'.

My Church Father lent an ear to the plan
asked to change myself rather than the world
leaders of a dozen field
offered the same feed in different bowls.

I let the world move happily,
bear the burden of Sisyphus,
curse my luck for all the sweats
and pray, and pray, and pray to God.

Video Of Tunes
Sumit Ganguly Oct 2017
My grandpa listened to 'rpm' records
closed his eyes
and bathed in the shower of music.

My mom took us to concerts,
played cassettes in tape recorders
and the tunes paved our way to growth.

My children are used to view music
silent imagination of old days lose trail,
baton of flight of fantasy rests on choreographers.

Co
Sumit Ganguly Oct 2017
Co
Some science and commerce words are cut
to use 'co' in shortcut.
The intelligent way of stamping
saves the labor of writing.

Company loses its 'mpany'
and 'C0' never looks funny.
Another 'Co' presents color of black berry
and 'Cobalt' smiles in paint and jewelry.

The logic of chemistry can guide
to understand CO as Carbon Monoxide.

A Pair Of Hazel Eyes
Sumit Ganguly Sep 2017
A pair of hazel eyes look at me.
Your 'bandana' runs up to forehead,
a scarf covers nose, chin and below,
the pinky complexion of your cheeks
lures me to paint you as a lovely maid.

There is no invitation in your eyes.
The fathomless look has ocean depth,
perhaps you read me with a X Ray beam
keeping yourself beyond my  comprehension,
like prima donna of my dreams.

Like a true lover I want to know more of you,
like a fearful citizen I peep to judge your intention
like an art lover I adore you as a fine piece of art.
Who are you and what are you?
Alas! You are million pixels away from me.

Road To Heaven
Sumit Ganguly Sep 2017
Papa, mom and me,
a happy family,
we live in a poultry.

Papa is called 'Fick'.
Mom's nature suites 'Meek'.
I'm simply a 'Chick'

Owner increased birds
came attendants, guards.
Our lives hang on 'Silver Standards'.

Our mothers teach,
'In heaven we reach
through roast, sandwich'.

Chase
Sumit Ganguly Sep 2017
Here hares wait quietly till drizzle stops atop hills, bright light peeps rabitually habitually wolves hooves trot brought again sound of cloud and air clash.
Flash
Then again sun and fun return, hares en- mass dare and scare away wolves.
Crazy Jerrys are chasing, facing warm Toms from yesterday to today.

(Poem in ***** Form, i.e in a new poetic form. Here most adjacent words rhyme. The theme is funny, bizarre.).

A Dreamer's View
Sumit Ganguly Aug 2017
This dilapidated school building
bears the wrath of Nazis.
Legend says
garden of flowers were smashed by them.

In this beautiful juncture of blue and green
the statue of ruler stands as a scare crow.
We have wiped out the trace of Nazis,
why not give a face lift to the place?

My plan of building a hotel has been sanctioned.
Please visit the paradise next summer.

When nor'wester hits us in summer evening,
swirling dust draws a curtain,

we shudder at the duet of dark cloud with whistling wind.

Oh my life, face this storm of events

Roads Of Life
Sumit Ganguly Jul 2017
First we learn to walk indoors,
the path is full of pebbles, *** holes.
We tumble down, kick and fight
till the floor turns plain and smooth.

Roads of life are topsy-turvy
weight and force of steps make them even.
Roads are endless, so are journeys
we make the smooth for posterity.

Haiku Of Sound
Sumit Ganguly Jun 2017
cool January
soft sound of chattering teeth
night of painful rest

faint tunes of dew drops
hazy February morn
sun and transport wait

first song of cuckoo
melting snow of mountain tops
a cool transition

bees drone busily
spring festival unites all
colorful April

groan of nor'wester
May carries storm and heat spells
month of thirst and sweat

tunes of first rain drops
sun and cloud play hide and seek
June brings hope of crops

downpour all day long
raindrops play a symphony
July helps sowing

rivers run in spate
August plays cymbals of flood
water everywhere

month of September
spread cough and stomach disease
catkin flowers bloom

crop harvesting songs
October brings festivals
smiling faces roam

yellow barren fields
songs of fishermen
cool November air

month of snow and choir
hail storm plays the Dholak drum
December- year ends

Food For Hungry Mind
Sumit Ganguly Jun 2017
Human bodies hang in air,
thrive on light and air,
bloom as crops of soil and water,
still need tools to sustain here.

All souls desire strength to sustain,
to harvest crop, to build home.
We get speed to roam around,
hearts still hanker for some food.

A smile is a delicious warm dish,
sincere praise- a bouquet of fruits,
patient hearing, help in need
act as nectar of amaranths.

Life Retraced
Sumit Ganguly Jun 2017
Expedition of life starts at dawn.
Trainers come genetically,
custom and society fill the gap,
we start a journey,
the route is misty.

I started for the Kanchenjunga
Half of the track was well lit road
rest was chosen weather-wise.
While I was in the last camp,
the peak was conquered by fast runners.

It took several years to start new expedition,
light came from 'post meridiem'
air changed a lot,
it was another peak in the same Himalayas.
Now the hazards are known, I strive.

Why Do I Write?
Sumit Ganguly May 2017
Poetry is the heat,
a part of my flame,
it keeps me cool,
envelopes in a frame.

Am I sentimental,
idle and worthless guy?
Feeling keeps me human,
passions let me fly.

A force compels me
to etch on papers
beauty and sorrows of life
before they shed layers.

I share my sorrow and joy
with equal invisible souls
their wishes sent through ether
expand my goals.

Love And Malice
Sumit Ganguly May 2017
Love and malice are sides of a coin
both feed equally to our mood.

We praise the charm of our lover
first for beauty then the qualities,
in the name of understanding
we weigh the obedience.

Affections for young self
have magnetic effects universally.
To avert a conflict of existence
roads of life bifurcate.

Lack of obedience steals
light from both the eyes,
malice and anger are marsh gas
flame and heat cause massacre

The ambit of obedience
cover racial, social, religious fields
greed of power incite people
exodus, wailing choke the air.

To restore peace and equal right
we need a world- wide human chain
the road is long- weather inclement
we have to feel - we can do.

I Dwell On Books
Sumit Ganguly May 2017
My first book was a store of love
words were made of sound and touch
characters smiled and sung lullabies
I learnt to talk and run for the sun.

There was a flood of colors, letters,
sentence rules and social norms,
the book was slowly spreading wings
indoor merged with grey outdoor.

Just then a seed opens eyes,
world starts to melt and dance
music, painting, sea of words
become books to make me green.

O book, how I thank you dear!
You have taught me to get rich,
share the gems of treasure
just like a ***** friend.

Rice Cereals

There is magic in rice cereals.
They dance as baby- fish in boiling pan,
and soon become snowy cool Delphinium.
Boiled grains easily vanish in the mouth,
a mug-full keeps you cool in summer.
Roasted rice is fluffy and light,
par-boiled pressed rice- ready to eat.
Have these as your breakfast treat
or just munch with evening tea.
Are you thin, have insomnia?
Fill your tummy in tones of rice
to gain weight and have peaceful sleep.

Age And Desire
Sumit Ganguly Apr 2017
Our age is a deciduous tree,
sheds yellow desires every year
makes room for new ones
in the spring of  opportunity.

Some desires resemble oak leaves,
cramped and brown- still cling in mothers’ bosoms
like our plans, albums, possessions.
Alas, trees can't expand like us for new desires!

Age and tree deviate at summer's end.
Age teaches to seek nectar of life..
Desires leave slough of leaves
and follow age as a sincere dog.

Thought Vs. Activity
Sumit Ganguly Apr 2017
The God-man said,
'We think too much but feel and act too little.
To have peace, come to us and donate;
when you give, you get His bliss.'

The professor at Art College demonstrated
how brush strokes can change thoughts to feelings.
'We think too much but feel and act too little,
in all art forms, feeling is a diamond resting on thought.'

'Have you ever found someone like you,
who think too much but feel and act too little?
Idle people and psychopaths are victims of dry thoughts,
Come out of hibernation, feel and act'- once told my papa.

Now I'm out of frustration
and exchange activities for earning.
'We think too much but feel and act too little' is a proverb to me.
I don't have time to think but feel and act for my dependents only.

when child loses heart in enjoyment
parent frowns
and the adult acts as conscience..

Memory laden last days are deciduous trees,

To look at my face
you need the mirror of your eyes.
Your eyes never wonder
how they reflect
an image of my ‘I’ to your senses.

When you read this poem,
you find an image of my thoughts
through a mirror of expressions
and judge my acceptability,
just as you do when you face this ‘I’.

All through one’s life
this ‘I’ is reflected by others,
parents, friends, wives, children, foes….
giving us a feeling of existence,
solid proof of this inseparable ‘I”.

But, the gifted souls feel

Thousands of miracles happen everyday
few are chronicled, others go astray.

A Revolution In The Garden
Sumit Ganguly Dec 2016
Thunder, lightning and rain ceased.
They peeped out of a cave.
Bright sunlight flooded the earth,
air was cool and birds chirped.

As they came out a voice echoed in air,
‘O, my reflected souls,
I've infused the nature in you
contain the flame of want and live blissfully.'

They were made of simplicity, love and trust.
So long they had no want.
There were plenty of fruits in the Garden,
a river quenched their thirst
birds and butterflies gave them company.
They lived here with toil, love and compassion.

Winter came- everything turned white.
With white hunger they searched for food
their need, reasoning and will,
gave birth to Satan,
who came forward and said,
'The Garden of Eden is for all.'
He took them to the other part of the Garden
where eternal spring reigned,
offered them the God's fruit with a smile.
The Age of want and logic began.
