The arithmetic of murky waters
Is not so clear

Neither are my chances of survival

Here is me
Face down in urgent sea

My wave
My grave
My gateway, perhaps

Whatever the consequence
Suffering is the new salvation

It all adds up
Sum how?
Sum way?

And if I was your ship
Destined to flounder
In the wide open drink

You'd re-enter the equation
And find a way to pull me through

Just so we could once more
Make the hurting count

When white lies trickle
into my speech
I hold my tongue
pressed against my teeth

I take a deep breath
and tell the truth
I can’t live this life
any better then you!

Freedom will come
when the king relinquishes the throne!
There are reasons to smile
In gratitude for all the good times
Wrapped away in a warm blanket
Of summertime

Sweet sunshine of nostalgia streams
Through the growing years of memories
Unpacked and dusted through masks
The antiques got a golden makeover
Polished and restored to their prime

Ash from the sacred fire rose
Sandalwood incense lit close
Fragrance of the past lingers
On the sunlit doors

Harmoniously
Blending the old and new within
Hopes renewed and happiness felt
Laughter echoed through the corridors
Lighting up the eyes of old and wise
-

lying on a closet floor
that stretches for over
two decades—

memories

messages, pictures and songs
from back in the day stored
inaccessibly in a rusting box
that has not functioned in years

and next to it, a laptop with a
deployed CD tray sits sideways
partially draped by a sheet

these machines may have
shared stories once,
but its doubtful they really
knew each other

—

miles away in a nursing home
a petrified brain rests in some
kind of medicated peace

while another lays quietly on his
side under a blanket watching
for the other one's last breath

hearing kids just outside
laughing into their devices —

he hopes for a chance to take
his last spin on –anyone's–
old record player...
