Winter has decorum
unlike his sister Spring,
he is slow and ponderous
but she's a giddy thing

24 HOURS

Read in reverse --
cupped wingspan of a flying cloud
drinking the brightness of an evening sky ;
Blazing cascade of northern lights, shadow
spaces rare, unguessed meaning of all
that pours longing into empty places of the night.

There are nebula perhaps cradling new stars
in heaven’s secret constellations, radiance
tender and consumming --

then, a drop of sun, goss-layered gossamer
over a rippled veil of shade and light,
dawn shifting irridescense into milky
pink rose refreshes the fraility of soul.

Day’s ardent color makes promises
fading gradually into the curve
of softening dark-- the silver curve
of early moon or the pyrotechnics
of a falling star.

24 hours, a presence constantly moving on,
a marriage of day and night when earth,
moon, sun and we align.
The sky is absolutely wrong-
Clouds just never look like that.
The tumbled shapes are so not right.
There is a norm for tumbled clouds,
But this sky isn’t even close.
The shadows on their bottoms also are not right-
That’s just not how the sky should ever be.

And…Oh My God !….Is that a rainbow?

But rainbows are supposed to look
Like horse-shoes planted upside down
With one end hiding a *** of gold-
Always, always, always…
That’s the way a rainbow works.
This one is a glowing orb
Shining on the tip end of a shaggy cloud.
It has all the colors it should have
And in their proper rainbow order but
It doesn’t have the requisite two ends.
It shimmers into disappearing edges
In the middle of the tea-time sky.

No chance of any *** of gold
From a rainbow never touching ground.

It’s absolutely wrong to be there
In the middle of those misshaped clouds.
Raising questions that have no answers.
Is this the sign that the Bible promised
To welcome in the final days…
And tribulation for a thousand years
When judgement comes to everyone
And all the hens come home to roost.
The world below, in utter chaos mired
Must somehow look above the trees
To see the Portents in the sky.

This is an actual description of what we saw in the sky driving home in the afternoon last week. Relieved that nothing bad happened. So far.
hush, hush, hush a bye
while we sing a song
don't you weep
no, don't you cry
we'll help you
to be strong

we're the stars
outside your window
rainbow colored on your sill
can't you see the
curtain billow?
hush a bye now
child be still!

the night is
strumming us a tune
in gold across the galaxy
can't you hear
ol' Billy Moon
playin' his guitar for free?

the stars are your
warm blanket, child
keeping you safe
from chilly harm
don't be scared,
we've chased the baddies
you are safe within our arms.

look out there
from your high window
there is a light
that did explode!
it's a star that did go nova
due to system overload!

why did that star
die out there, child?
why did it up and fall so fast?
because it lit up
so brightly for you
and such Stars
weren't meant to last!

I woke to find
Everything packed away—
Carpets rolled up,
Bare floorboards
Revealed for the first time.

No one around,
My footsteps made
A strange
Sound

Then Gran came in.
"Your mummy and daddy
Aren't getting along."
This truth,
I learned too late,
Kept from me
Until this morning.

A day my mind
Will never forget,
A secret now
Unfolded.

We traveled to the new town,
My face
Wore
A
Frown.

The door slammed shut
Too quickly,
A bad case
Of homesickness.
What was severed
Now crystallized.

Now,
I never fail
To remember
Every
Detail.

Make sure the fit
Is not too tight,
Or you may forget
It's there in the night,
Blurring wrong and right.

Remove the mask,
Let your soul be bare.
No need to ask—
Just show you care.

Hold someone close,
Feel their beating heart.
Life's truest moments
Need no guise or art.
