Dream of Adventure
Lily O'Quinn Apr 2018
I wish to go swimming, you and I
In the dark expanse we call night sky
I'll pick stars like flowers for your hair
And watch your eyes reflect the glare

And then we can sail across the tide
Open mouthed and glassy eyed
The moon our ship, we'll take the stern
As I guide you through each twist and turn

Hand in hand, we'll voyage the stars
Stretching down to brush the surface of Mars
I'll adorn your fingers with Saturn's rings
And catch distant Suns to be our playthings

Then at last we'll dive back in
Our smiles revealing the places we've been
I'm content with my feet touching the ground
For as long as I'm with you, I'm safe and sound.

Undoubtedly
Lily O'Quinn Nov 2017
I love you without thoughts of from where or till when
If there's a day you don't want me, I will still love you then
My feelings for you exist without complication
My heart is full with simple and pure adoration

Fool’s Pearls
Lily O'Quinn Apr 2018
he strung pearls round my neck
and I strung him from a tree
as he choked his final breath
I crooned, “save a spot in hell for me”

a kiss of red upon his cheek
the ghost of lust haunting his lips
as imprinted on his memory
as the bruising fingers on my hips

he thought me as a canvas
he could paint to be refined
pretty to be looked at
touched with detachment of the mind

the fool should have kept his pearls
and found another portrait to admire
for if you give me a golden candle
I’ll set your world on fire

Mountain
Lily O'Quinn Apr 2018
I don’t know how to swallow the ache
that pushes against my chest
like a sunset grazing the tip of a mountain
and that’s all I am
a mountain built on hopeless dreaming
piled high with all the light
that never washed white my rubble
and clouds that almost reached my base
but evaporated in the frigid air
a mist of unattainable longings
words don’t fit between these lips
without pulling poverty from my stomach
and shoving them into the cracks in my heart
stuffing me full with an even deeper empty
I’ve balled sleepless hours into stars
but even they can’t cast out the shadows
that drag their fingers across the expanse
of my being like wind through a field
mountains are supposed to be strong
but when earthquakes threaten to pull
the foundation from beneath it
a mountain can only stand tall
and tremble while it crumbles to dust
