Woke
Tanisha Jackland May 2019
Earth is so delicate
that we must
take only
what we need
From Her

For She is the
life breathing
in life
the
storms breeding
rage and thunder with
the cold wind
nudging at our bones

When we choose
to actualize our
disembodied arrogance
upon Her
we wake Her wrath

Then in the most
compassionate
diabolical
way
she slowly deals
our final fate

There are legions of him
rising out from under stones
casting spells

He will bamboozle you

He is no sir lancelot but

boogie man waiting to

There is something
holy about you
wild as the flowers
growing in a mad
scheme of colors

You plummeted
from the sky
the forbidden fruit
dark and ripe already

afterwards,
a lone man even
offered to wash
your feet

then
left you a single kiss
as a sacrament
on your cheek
Holy men...

You have awoken. again.
Clarity follows you.
when you come around. again.

I have been in fragments.
waiting.
and torn into pieces.

I was so miniscule when
you were far away.

You could feel

but now that you are back
from your slumber.

I am here for you
and
unbroken.

Tanisha Jackland Dec 2017
I am like an old willow
hoping you will notice me
that you'd want
to hold my embrace in yours
tree branch to flesh
compromising our nuances
like old friends
diving into each others
thought bubbles
and seeking out the lit sun
in our eyes...
who's to say that the tree
is not sentient
maybe we are not tree enough
just seed thoughts
floating along
for a place to belong
a place worth settling for...
Trees are people too.

The roses aren't ripe
they still run the
sullen color of the sky

the berries are bitter still
they will turn
your mouth against you
if you are not careful

the bananas haven't
softened and sweetened
and melted on your tongue
that is how I know
there is something healing
and urgent upon the wind
which cannot be destroyed
Healing from the inside out...

The Real Ones
Tanisha Jackland Dec 2016
Times are hard
as we bring ourselves
to the table

we get eaten
by the
the denials
the fakes

But it is not their job
to hand you on their platter
to desire you with open mouths
for them to acknowledge
you like they want a good whiff

The real ones know
where your heart is
they tell you who you are
without telling the others
The real ones discern each other
like
one
searching
for
their
own
true
self

Give up
For the meeting
of flesh shall
surely perish

Wander in my love
you may stumble upon
the finest of linens

Spin always and listen to
the morning
it knows all things
it is the life
it is the eternal
the absolute living breath

For the meeting of flesh
is pleasant but shall rot
and
will surely perish

You walk
upon this Earth
like an
opened wound
all soured smiles and
doughy nosed

But one day you
will learn to lick your
own wounds
then heal
unhurried by
the sullen hours
of
slowly melting
the days
into alchemy

flesh for scales

fish-tailed
and finally free...
Mermaids exist whether you want to believe or not.

The Void
Tanisha Jackland Mar 2017
She fears its omnipotence
It breathes in the quiet
scans her humanity,
her fire

She holds tight
to the golden refuge
and plants sweets
in the bottom of
blossoming trees

The void is a savage lover
with delicate fingers
and a pretty mouth

You were not programmed
to follow them the others.

I'm talking to the wind
of reality and what is true.

If integrity walked by, would you
recognize it.
Or if compassion were in the house,
would you feel it.

Deeply understand who you are.
If you are the soul. Be the soul of that place.

Know from which path
you came
then blaze your own.

Back into the Bottle
Tanisha Jackland Jan 2017
You are captive to it.

This numbing redeemer.

Who ever said

putting the genie

back into the bottle

was an impossible task.

It only takes a pill

these days

but it don't last.

And if you're not

all together careful

cradling its contents

so precious like breath

You could end up

smothering your genie

and leaving him for dead.
Mental illness is a real thing that needs real solutions. Pills help get patients stable again but they should not be used to over-medicate into a zombie-like state.  Instead, we need to see mental illness as a spiritual awakening for the people who experience this and work with them on an organic and soulful level integrating the mind, body and spirit.

Behold the night in all her

What is Happening?
Tanisha Jackland Apr 2018
The waters are rising
fish are finless and dying
we have toxic bodies and minds
we are killing off the only
wisdom we have left

the indigenous are endangered
the animals are game
the trees and plants have given up
kind people are kneaded out

All the things that made
us once great
How dare us sulk over
nothing
The audacity of us to bask in
glory of our false privilege
We are our own worst enemies
desperate rabid wolves
the lot of us

What's happening
is that some of us have
forgotten our propensity
for kindness
to be humane
to serve others
to love as we will
and to have mercy on them
the others

but most of all we have
made our Mother mad.
She's a pip.
Tanisha Jackland Feb 2023
We are not an absolute
one day to be fodder
for the Earth
She will consume us
after we have had enough
for we are cyclical beings
waning always waning
fading into frequencies
of rearranging patterns

I'd like to think
we have an eternity
to come back again
if necessary
to try on new flesh
to eat again
at the bounty of Earth

Then multiply it by my halo.
I wilt in the presence of me.

David and Goliath
all rolled up into a girl
with big ***** and a head

I am neither here nor there
but right now I am at
the center of your universe.

And you cannot deny
the humility
I have under this flesh
sizzling red hot as Jezebel.

My bite is sharp unlike the heart
That runs underneath.
I could cut you like a nun
Or pray for you like a ninja.

I am a straight line into
an ingenious plot.
And if you try to save me

Silly is Love
Tanisha Jackland Dec 2017
Love is awkward
Makes you do unmindful things
like staying up past restful hours
mind racing of kisses from no one
imaginary lover dancing in your head
nothing but the wait for a
seemingly simple
phone call
pick up the phone and melt into me
you have all the time in
the world to wait for him
or to browse her pictures and texts
we will never learn from the calm or logical
just hopes from longing
suffering love in the recesses of the dark...
Love take notes.
Tanisha Jackland Sep 2017
Impress no one for this is the hour of authenticity
It is the hour to wake up to the fact that you are a slave
and your mentality is a slave spitting slave rhetoric
and it's a tragic narrative if you die in this mortal state

So don't make your holidays pointless make them mean
something and let the cold blood of the rationale
leave your delicate veins from the still-life that was
into something renewed and eternal...

One day
you will
know that beauty
hides in shallow places
like the lie that is your face

But in time we beget
to mull over this
The shallow land
how it displaces us

There is no palate left
for the muted
with their whimsy hearts
and lofty wings...
Those unseen things
That dream in flesh
and stalk your breath

Hearing footsteps

The knocks at her door

But he has eaten her again

Devoured her from the inside out

The skein of muscle the drool of blood

Left pieces of her between his teeth

And now he is going for the jugular

She has been done a million times before

To forsake her would have been easier

To lead her to her own betrayal

Into this scandal would have been good enough
