Just know...
He’s had lives & loves before you
Remember that when the bricklayer or the mechanic
Asks for your hand
You’ll receive one flower
Instead of a dozen roses
Picked on his way home
Handwritten notes in your shoes
Instead of Hallmark greetings
Elaborate dinners cooked by him
Where he said he’d clean
Afterwards
But didn’t
Spur of the moment
Road trips
Instead of planned vacations
The opening of windows
For the springtime thunderstorms
Listening to the beat of his heart
While the rain drops
Drip
Drip
I
N
T
O
The drain
He’ll write you with jazz playing
Wine in his bottle
Records in his head
Absorbing you into his world
And if he dies before you
And you bury him
And you mourn over him
Lasting for years
Remember his flower
His notes written just for you
And if you see his ghost
Haunting you
Then the Poet
Has fallen forever for
...You...

how foolish of me
to think
late night conversations
could lead to
a sterling amount of love
cascading through me

but all it ever left
was a gaping hole,
stretching itself beyond
to greet the bane's den.

the neverending loop;

stuck-up little poet
thinking it would be
different,
poor little heart;
it had suffered enough,
let it rest.

little girl calling herself
a poet would like to know
what to do
with these memories
of warmth
from her
sun-kissed hand.

« no, no »

how stubborn of me
thinking
i could no longer be
time's fool.
im sorry. i love you.

everyday
i am learning to love
the imperfections
that litter my body
the same way
we find beauty
in the petals
of dead roses

As we count the cost
of your ticket to leave
As we cry the tears
and wipe them on our sleeve
As we wait for hope
we sit and smile
As we try to cope
we sit for awhile
As we dance around
with our feet bare
As we lay on the ground
with our fanned out hair
As we sit on our bench
and look up at the stars
As we look at each other
we realize what we are
As we became best friends
beauty was born
And now as you leave
we are still strong as ever
and remain untorn.

raise your words

not your voice

for it is rain that grows flowers

not thunder
