This is to the woman
Who keeps reminiscing
About remnants of nostalgia
A woman who is all but a shadow
Whose leaves turned brown
A dim light that waits by the gate
A ghost that yields to me
The woman who’s trying
To find Eden
Longing for autumn
Falling asleep in her grief

This is to the woman I became

I’m a lily blooming
Still thriving
While still exploring the earth
And all her surroundings
Absorbing all of her beauty and body
I can’t even scribe everything down
That comes to my mind
To represent all that she beholds
In all directions of the winds
It is something even poetry can't describe
How she brings people together
She reminds me
That we're not that different
You and I

Your face is like a labyrinth

I could get lost in it
Ashley Rowan Sep 2020
I’m the pain in your back
I’m the soreness in your throat
I’m the cramp in your feet
I’m the ache in your teeth

I’m the grass on your lawn
I’m the water in your pool
I’m the ice in your drink
I’m the water when you sink

Sometimes I’m laughing at my own loneliness

But in my head I’m fierce like a lioness
Ashley Rowan Sep 2020
I tried to be cold hearted
but I still laugh at your jokes

I tried not to wake the fire
but I keep bursting out in laughter

All my life I have been feeling this crippling loneliness
Somehow it gives me a sense of comfort
Just the idea of someone walking on this very earth
Who is meant to be with me
Is lovely but also terrifying

I’m wondering if he’s thinking about me too
When he’s drinking a beer with the guys
Or when he steps into his car
Questioning when the seat next to him will be filled
Wondering what my favorite songs are
And if I like to dance
Also knowing there is someone on this planet
Who is meant for him

I wish the wind would whisper his name to me
Or the pigeon outside my window
The tram that rushes by me
Or the employee at the coffee shop
Just to know he’s not dead
That I don’t wait for nothing
Or my body will dig itself
into the earth
