Happiness
Arj Mar 2014
I've lived a life of ignorance,
convinced myself into believing
the biggest lie in the world.
But I wouldn't have it any other way.

The Party
Arj Apr 2014
Amidst the excitement
over disabling drinks and drugs
and hasty hook ups
there is a silence that exists
because nobody talks.
Nobody talks.

Demons fill the air
intoxicating your emotions
and you're alone.
Parties shouldn't be lonely,
should they?

There are masked people
segregated
except for one girl
whose face shines
the mask blocking her light
like an eclipse.

And she's not here.

Daisies
Arj Nov 2014
You've planted daisies
Inside of my heart
And now they're starting to grow.

It's been awhile since plants
grew here.
It's been a garden
full of those potted
plants that you buy
at the supermarket or Home Depot
that you think you'll take care of
but they die soon after.

Gardens are only for those
with green thumbs.
My thumbs are red
from plowing and tilling the soil in my veins
in hopes that maybe
A good planter will come along
and plant the right flowers.

Daisies are starting to grow on me
and I think they're here to stay.

Crepes
Arj Mar 2014
I want to lay in my bed
Next to you
At seven in the morning.

"Crepes?"
"Crepes." You say.

I get up
and start the crepe maker

I put out the Nutella
And cut bananas
And pull out the jar of lingonberries that
I love
Even though nobody knows
What lingonberries are.

You ask for peanut butter
And we both know I'm allergic.
But I have a jar
Because I know that
You love it.

To Kill a Butterfly
Arj Nov 2015
it comes alive in the night
and grows
like a bonfire
smoking dreams of
false tomorrows.
but like me, we know
tomorrow's a mystery
filled with uncertainty
and butterflies that fly
out the back of your throat
and they gloat you
fluttering their wings
with coulda beens and shoulda beens
and this is all just talking about me.

I always tell myself that
I'll slap em out the air
but by the end of the day
my hands are still clean.

I heard today
that wherever our love goes
there we find our soul.
If we're lucky.
If we're blind.
Are you my soul?

My soul found you
like an old friend
and awakened my heart
knowing just the right
strings to pull.
My soul knew it from
the first time we really
talked.
It told my heart
Know that. Keep it close.
It told my mind what to say
and it let me feel
what love was.
I don't know how it did it.

What I do know
is that I am lucky
and I am blinded.
By your love.
By your beauty.
By your soul.
