Roger Turner - Poet
A darkened bar
An old guitar
A stage that once played host
To all the Delta greats and now
to Robert Johnson's Ghost

An old man
His spitting can
A boy from up the coast
Learning how to play the blues
In the home of Johnson's Ghost

You gotta feel the music boy
You sure don't feel too much
Your fingers skipping half the notes
You're playing double dutch
Slide it, let the music meld
That's what folks all want the most
You got to feel it, yes sirree
Like Robert Johnson's Ghost

Five hours passed
Time went fast
But what he learned the most
Was feel the notes
That were wrote
By Robert Johnson's Ghost

The spirit has to fill you
You have to suffer for the blues
You can't come in and play for us
In shiny, brand new shoes

The old man
his spitting can
Made the young boy cry
He played the notes
That Johnson wrote
on the day that Johnson died

Until you feel the music boy
And stop playing double dutch
You got to slide the fingers son
Don't use the guitar as a crutch
Remember where you're playing
And to who it still plays host
You're playing for the netherworld
And Robert Johnson's Ghost

Your encouragement came from various adult groups
Your educational desires were your mind helping you to think stride with footsteps in effort
There were doubts in your mind and negativity from others all combined
The power of the blackboard that showed your encouragement from the start being words
The many Teachers and Professors in making sure they were being heard
It was a matter in being prepared for the work place
Achieving now and not be a waste
It wasn’t an easy road
But look at what you accomplished, “You graduated and behold”
Your school that produced the foundation
You listened wisely as educational tools that opened your eyes
Remember education is what makes you wise
But it is the every day living which you will reach in realize
Understanding will be a theory you must think out
It is all about being successful and this is what I am talking about
There will be opposition in downing your point
Stand your ground and let understanding be your course
Your Teachers have left this impression
Use what they taught being the indication
You are the individual that stands out
This is your chapter I am talking about
Your whole education experience that was an adventure
It’s time to venture and be proud of your self, and say, “I can do this”
Now hit that bull’s eye and don’t make a miss
Your family and friends share your strides
Achieve by being involved
Having enthusiasm in knowing how to problem solve
Illustrate while you participate
Others said, you will never achieve
Never let anyone corrupt your mind in trying to deceive
This should make all graduate’s be relieved
Your determination is what stands out
Hold up your head up and be proud
Shout loud, “I am a graduate”
Success comes to all who make a step
Good things come too whom listened and abided

Your graduation is a gift being an effort in your try
As you step off the school’s grounds, you have made the first step in being educated bound
It seemed long and hard, but you will one day see your own achieving mark
Believe in me as I believe in you
You can certainly be assured as your confidence helps you to be sure
As my Grandfather instilled in me, “Continue to learn and you will become a commodity to earn”.

Is it my fault for digging the hole in which you crawl?
after you heard the girls whispering about your size
Who am I to say you are not beautiful at all?

You bought all that makeup to look like a doll
but he still walks past as tears flood your eyes
Is it my fault for digging the hole in which you crawl?

You read what was written on the bathroom stall
so you look towards me to confirm the lies
Who am I to say you are not beautiful at all?

You sit alone in lunch and walk alone in the halls
asking God as you look upon me to remove your disguise
Is it my fault for digging the hole in which you crawl?

It was in fact you who created your own fall
looking towards you to accentuate your flaws
Who am I to say you are not beautiful at all

In a way I helped you build your wall
though I can not mirror what your face implies
Is it my fault for building the hole in which you crawl
Who am I to say you are not beautiful at all

The words "once upon a time"
Begin a fantacy story
Who's seemingly shallow rhyme
Creates a deep allegory

The princess traped, endangered
Our deepest fears are revealed
Yet, saved by the kind stranger
Our wishes are to be appealed

The prince fighting, enthralling
Our search for love is now released
Always hopes for belonging
Our strong courage not so repressed

Then "happily ever after"
Soon ends our magnificent tale
But what is happy hereafter,
Far beyond this twisting trail?

what would he be thinking ... (?)

::

But

( I finally conclude )

""

Isn't this just another way of saying

IF .........I

HAD MY HEAD ON STRAIGHT

WHAT WOULD ......I

BE THINKING ?

//

In truth

The question is

WHAT AM I DOING

AND WHAT DO I THINK IS GOING ON ?

//

then I see

That the issue is really

One of             bow important do I think I am

Or

One of       how relevant is my existence in the scheme of things

//

I walk on

OH ****

HERE I AM  !

//

Forget the super powers !

The super heroes !

The invincible robotic warriors !

//

ITS JUST ME

AND HERE I AM

And what I'm doing

I think I really know

And how to do it ?

Well here you are too

this one hates that one, and that one hates this one
not as much poets, more like trifling fools
it's all about the *** your kissing
didn't you take time to read the rules?
