Under the rubble
Of humanity’s last battle
Lay the lost children

The neglected, impoverished and unfortunate
Subject to the politicking of cruel men
Their souls polluted with the dust of the devil incarnate

The children have no voice
Lost, in the darkness of Damascus
Stolen, in the ruins of Rwanda

But their odes shall remain
Imprinted upon
The broken concrete of civilization

If stones where tears,
Then I would be a
     Tombstone of sorrows.
Gathering  beyond
             my standing

Where do I even begin?
An attraction like sin,
Further into this web, I spin.

Clawing out of the dark,
From the hollows of my heart,
Reaching out for your spark.

These words are not untold,
Born from smears of gold,
Right there for you to unfold.

Perhaps they were too opaque;
Just another one of my mistakes,
Letting the sun's rays pave my way.

Would you believe me if I told you
the world is on my shoulders
She cries for me late at night
So I stay awake to hold Her

I never meant to live like this
but I’m always glad I do
Because it puts the weight on me
And takes it all off you

But as I hold you in my hands
The world feels so light
That’s when I finally understand  
Why I continue to fight

In the distance I heard singing
a quiet empty hymn
In the daylight I saw shadows
Nice to see you, how’ve you been  
You walk me through your garden
While I hide from you my sins
I know I said I wouldn't come back  
but here we are again

I know it barely is enough
but its everything I have
to stand here waiting patiently
for you to let me in
