I said I wouldn't, but I lied. I
Will open the window for you if you
Promise to visit me once more. I
Will let you enter and stay with me tonight, if you
Promise not to leave me again.
Not even if I ask.
Not even if I beg.

I wonder if all poets write about you.
A version of you
that I will never know
or never see
or never want to be with.
Endless poems filled with your thoughts and actions and feelings

Once when I was drunk
I held my hand to a flame
And it didn’t hurt
There are not so many transitions in life as peculiar as love.

the stages from

"I think, I could love you."

to

"I want, to love you."

to

"I know, I love you."
I tried to
catch a leaf

as it fell
floating

in the coolness
I always

wanted to be
changing

directions
adapting

to the push
and the pull

always in
the perfect

position to
land so easily

A dreamer dreams,
A man sees.
But the dreamer was never a man,
The dreamer is the greatest voice of all mind.

A dreamer dreams,
A  man sees.
But the dreamer was never man.

Now the world has become so dull.
The dreamer is lost in a sight of darkness,
The dreamer is lost in a night of a thousand storms.

Dreamer,
Were you ever a man?

I was born a turtle. Kids put me on
the road and watched me squashed.
I was born a parrot and captured and
broke into an odd pet in your cage.
I was born a duck and cruelly drowned
for your convenience. My father was
at war and lost his kindness and I
was squashed, caged and drowned

Hit em with poetry
Some knuckles
And a fist of ink

Your pen is sword

Poets

All you have to do is
Swing

Slice em with words
Hit em with
Your arsenal of alphabetic slurs

Your heart is the cure

The world needs to observe
Poetry
And all that's heard

Hear

The sound

When poetry hits a frown
It turns it
Right side up

Hit em with poetry
My friends

Because

Sometimes the world
Needs to wake up
as a kid
there's nothing
like wasting away inside a tiny
room
sitting on the backrest
of the couch
looking out the window
and seeing her
tread through the rain

a red umbrella covers
her.

Mother

she's going back
to the liquor store
