You are simply beyond description.

For a definition is but a collection of words, and those words are just letters working together to tell a story.

But your laugh takes me on an adventure through worlds undiscovered. Your eyes are deep oceans filled with tales of past shipwrecks before you realized that you were the treasure. Your heartbeat is a symphony composed in a melody that only we know.

So while describing you is this fool's errand, I know mere words will never completely capture you.

For words are just letters working together to be beautiful, and you are more beautiful than any group of words can ever hope to be.
Just as I depart, you beckon me
Essentially, all we are is
Separated, detached in more ways than one
"Stop romanticizing" I used to chant
It didn't make a difference
Couldn't quell a fire
As strong as this

Just as I object, you charm me,
Engage me with fervor
Still I wonder if the objections will ever
Stop you from your profession.
Is it not clear to you?
Couldn't be clearer
A fire such as this

Just as we embrace, we leave each other
Endlessly fleeing each other, but
Still burns the flame
Still seeps through my eyes to yours,
Imperfectly interdigitating
Can you feel it?
A love such as this
When did love become so violent?
When did people start to hold hands in fists?
When did amorous letters turn into 140 character snips?

Reactions were real; we stumbled through hoops together head over heels
And now we stumble through scrolls with eyes-
Irises as white as the background that bleeds into bloodshot sclera-
There is no vitreous humor here...we're melting.

When did Cupid start carrying a gun?
When did value turn face towards deprecation?
When did the olive branch come from a broken tree?
When did words become weapons of divinity?

The storm we hold is long and wide-
And the power of letting it go extends the hand of life;
Vulnerable, we most definitely are as the thunder rolls
And the lightning strikes - no place to hide...

When did you swing towards my lip to make it rain even more-
When that same lip could have been a cloud on your forehead
To clear the sky?

When did love become so violent?

Hello everyone,

I'm so very sorry … I feel horrible doing this, but I have no choice. You see, I have published my first book on Amazon/Kindle! This piece (and many others) had to be taken down because they do not allow published material to be available online for free. (Go figure) I wanted to leave the shell of the posts because I felt compelled to leave all your helpful and loving comments. (Silly sentimental, I know), but I also didn't want to just have the pieces disappear without an explanation. I feel bad enough as it is!

I owe ALL of you so, SO much for all of your reads, love, and support. It was YOU that gave me the gumption to FINALLY get off my **** and publish! Thank you all for the warm comments, camaraderie, and encouragement! I will still be here, reading, uploading and just being the Rascal that I am. How could I EVER leave you guys?

The book is called “The Way I See It – FictionPhilosophySoul Food” and it will be FREE for the first few days on Kindle Select, so watch for it, if you are interested. I hope that you go and grab it. If you do, I would also hope that you find it worthy, you would leave me a good review. That will help me get in the public eye! Soon afterward (2-3 days or so), it will be available in paperback.

Find the book(s) here: www.amazon.com/author/jeff.gaines

Or find the book(s), and all about me, here: www.JeffGaines.world

Soon after, I also hope to have my first novel (a supernatural thriller), called “Wanderer” available as well!

  Wish me luck!
Big, Biggest Love,
        Jeff Gaines

Hello, little one
Do you remember me?
I'm sure you wouldn't,
To you, I'm not even a memory.

While you run around
reckless and carefree,
I'm sure you never once
Let your mind stray to what would be.

You never thought it would turn out like this.
I know you didn't.
But they're not lying to you when they tell you
you'll change.

Please don't cry, little one.
Don't be afraid of me.
This change can be as blissful
As it is terrifying.

The world is scary.
You'll learn that soon.
But it's so easy for you to forget
How wonderful it can be, too.

Though you think you're Peter Pan,
You can't just fly away to Neverland.
This life is going to push you,
Until you've had enough.

But you'll keep pushing back, little one.
Don't be afraid to grow up.
If you could talk to yourself as a child, what would you say?

there are so many of you
that i would love to sit down with;
maybe over a milkshake and a plate of fries;
and just talk.
i want to ask you about the boy that hurt you,
about the anger you feel deep inside
over a father who said he’d come back...
and then didn’t.
i want to run with you through pages of words and say
“oh that’s right, what a lovely metaphor.”
i want to see all your smiling faces and
thank each and every one of you for showing me kindness,
for saving my life.
i want to collaborate on novels of poetry
and laugh with you through the tears of our pasts.
so until we sip those milkshakes and eat those fries...
thank you, to
some of the most beautiful people i have never met.
to all my HePo followers/friends/ fellow poets! you have all given me a beautiful escape from Life <3

bound by the sky and tied to the ocean
my soul clings to the freedom of blue
blue waves; blue heavens
i wish to soar
i wish to dive
i wish to breathe under the suffocating embrace of water
i wish to breathe above the kitten-soft clouds
my heart only loves the way my body glides through the pool
and the endless expanse of earth beneath me as i fly
i am made for something other than earth.

Will you dance with me under the stars
With the crickets playing our tune
While the wind finds it's way through the trees
In the darkness of the new moon

Will you dance with me in a meadow
With the sunlight kissing your cheek
While we dream up the impossible
Adventures we continue to seek

Will you dance with me through the storm
With the cold rain soaking to the core
While we work through our disparity
May we opt to never close the door

Will you dance with me to the edges
With your hand in mine we will go
While exploring all of the boundaries
Comfortable, easy and slow

I like late night drinks
in late night yards
with late night fires
that can keep me warm

I like late night rides
in late night parks
with late night stars
that can brighten the dark

I like late night love
in late night times
with late night you
that can power my heart

I like late nights
in this small town
with close friends
all around

I like the blur
from the bud
and the buzz
from the *****

I like my hair--
the sky--
the world--
and why lie?

I love you
Im bored in love
Two strangers sit down to have coffee
"What was immersion like?"
One said to the other

A charmed smile sprung on the recipient
As if it's a call back, a reminder of when they weren't strangers.
If such a time ever existed

During coffee,
The strangers talked
about safe things
Non inflammatory things

And then the strangers got up and went to work
One taking the north exit on 41
The other, the south

And the strangeness about them was always there
Even when they convinced themselves it wasn't
And the strangeness about them remained there
Even after meeting again
This is written in the same style as my other poem "Dichotomous", which I very much like. It's almost a continuation of the story, or perhaps a retelling thereof.
