I saw you drowning
so I came to help
but you pushed me under
and saved yourself instead

GAETANO
I open my eyes in the morning,
And look at you.
Your eyes, closed,
Your face, relaxed,
A faint smile from your lips.
I wonder what you are thinking.
I watch you gently breathing.
Your face contorts and moves,
But you remain asleep.
You mutter something incoherent.
I wonder if you are dreaming.
Your eyes move gently behind your lids.
You moan a bit,
Your lips form a soft smile.
You open your eyes and,
Smile.
You kiss me softly on my lips,
And whisper...I LOVE YOU.
And in the end
she broke my heart.
Both as a lover
and as a best friend.

The poet lives two lives.
One on the outside,
And one in their mind.

When you look in their eyes
You could see an abyss.

If you looked long enough
You could sink into it.

But most people don’t see it.

Take the time to read the words, though,
And you would know for sure.

The poet lives in two different worlds.
A little escape from the madness.
Or maybe, into.
