You smiled today and that's awesome,
You smiled today, you feel fine.
You smiled today and I love that,
That smile of yours, is what has caused mine.

He used to walk with life in his stride
He used to strut with a heart full of pride

These days see him stumbling every so often
These days see his eyes vacant and sullen

So I asked if there was anything bothering him
So I asked what is it that made his light so dim

He tarried, then answered with conviction true
He tarried before he finally answered, *"You..."

Turbulence in my mind
Peace I cannot find
Thoughts I cannot park
Silence screams in the dark

Demented shadow rejoices
Deafening loud noises
Exhausting persistent voices
Debating impossible choices

Don't need anyone to blame
Just Need to numb my brain
Does anyone share this pain?
Does anyone feel the same?

Where has gone the lands we knew?
Of waving grass and glistening dew
All fallen to the housing plan
Devised by an educated city man
Educated!!!!
Those once green green fields and woodland tracts
Have succumbed to bulldozer blades and felling axe
No more the places where as kids we played
On those beautiful sunlit days
Now landfill sites and city dumps
Cover the places where we once ate a picnic lunch
Gone are the fields and woodland glades
Where we once spent our sun filled days

I'm sitting here to write these words
to say what's on my mind;
To promise you I'm changing plans,
to walk a different line.

I know I've lived so deep in sin,
as down life's road I trod;
I failed so bad in many ways
while running from my God!

It's never worked, the way I've lived,
my life from day to day;
The simple truth, I'm still amazed
you never walked away!

You've stood by me, no matter what,
the pain at times so bad;
You never once resented me
or life we should've had!

You've taught me more, though miles apart,
of what true love's about;
You broke the binds around my heart
with love to never doubt!

You're anchored firm, with roots so deep,
you've always stood so fast;
You've grounded me with Godly love,
and shown your love to last!

So now you see you're everything,
my Angel from above;
A special gift God sent to me
all packaged in your love!

Today, I woke up to a flesh fair.
Dresses are getting shorter, sometimes there just not there.
More cleavage than ideas, more muscles than compassion.
More media coverage of 'age appropriate' than how to feed the world!

Our bodies are beautiful and nature has hardwired us to know this.
But, know that our bodies preceeded our existence, your ***** bone is not taboo!
You strip your clothes and strip yourself bare whilst you hide under a 1000 layers.
Let's shift focuss from what was always there!

Nakedness can save us, if only we were willing to face the cold.
Pull on your Wolly jumpers, open your mouth to bare your soul.
Weaver a fabric of intimacy, a patchwork connection of trust and honesty.
Shed all the ugliness of media gorged, superficial controversy.

The leaves were just at the very peak of their color
and the air was full of change
Seasons have come and gone
and still I cannot forget his name
Sometimes we have to let go
of those godawful memories
In order for our heart
to forget the pain
Darkness will try to ride up on
its darkened horse from behind
Some days I just ride it out
Other days I beat it back down
All that animosity makes us go blind
I have to remind myself that I am not back there
I have to remind myself to just breathe
Some days we all feel sad and I think we just have to ride it out
Feel it, then move on

The typical 2 a.m. poem is messy
because middle of the night thoughts have no structure

The typical 2 a.m. poem is deep
because darkness is perfect for existentialism

The typical 2 a.m. poem is raw
because it's hard to edit when you're tired

This 2 a.m. poem is just another 2 a.m. poem
desperately trying to be unique
