Cool kid
Anthony Esposito Oct 2017
You wanna be a cool kid,
But your not a cool kid.
You wanna be a winner, but you've never won before.
You wanna see the real world, but you've never lived before.

Disco ball above your head,
Lazers, lights, the beat in your head.
You wanna be a cool kid, but your not made for this.
You wanna be a cool kid, but your not cool kid.

Dreams come true, but not for you.
Love is real, but you can't deal.
The perfect life is real,
But your not cool enough.

You wanna be cool,
You wanna break all the rules.
You can't be cool because your not a cool kid.

Bubbles
Anthony Esposito Jan 2018
I got memories of you,
Popping in and out
Like tiny bubbles In the the summer sun.

They stick to me like glue.
Like an addiction, I wish that I could kick you.
But I just keep crawling back.
Like a pain in the small of my back.

I am at war in my head.
Fighting demons off,
and hoping the Angels hold them back.
I don't have the guts to retreat.
My every emotion is telling me to give in.

Memories in my head of you,
Popping like Bubbles in in the summer time.

Youth
Anthony Esposito Aug 2017
These days our youth has so many excuses.
Girls so young doing things so wrong that older girls would never have done.
Boys loving boys,
And people marrying young.
What happened to harmless fun?
They keep their secrets safe from their parents.
But they always seem to know their bad deeds.
They plants the seeds so young,
Of bad deeds and bad decisions.
They've got the problem but it becomes ours.
Their scars are real but we keep brushing them off.
This story is real.
So real you could touch it.
Our youth is drowning, stuck in the mud.
Their heads filled with poison we feed them ourselves.

Up North
Anthony Esposito Jul 2022
I’m  standing on a snowy mountain top
in Alaska
When my brother says he misses me
Says it’s been to long since I’ve come from the lower 48

And I’m sad to admit that’s it’s true
But through the rain I spit out
I say I’ll do better
But I never do

“It’s a shame I can’t stay longer”
I say to him
But I know that I don’t have the heart to wander away from my comfort zone

I’m headed up north to Alaska
To find some peace of mind
But I’m left feeling empty
Like I'm leaving what I set out to find

Heading north to Alaska
I’m going north to Alaska
Ive come and gone
But my heart is In Alaska

Saw the northern lights dance in the sky
Brought tears to my eyes
Kayaked through the pacific
Sea otters swam by my side

Saw mountain carry the sky
So tall I felt so small inside
It’s the last frontier
Its the last of the Best of the world

I’m headed up north
I’m going north to Alaska
Ive come and gone
But my heart is In Alaska

I'm Alive
Anthony Esposito Jul 2017
I'm alive!
I cried out to the midnight air.
Whispers of wind answered me back.
I'm alive and I want to live.

I'm alive!
I shouted to the loud crowded street.
Arms spread out and both feet together.
I'm alive and I want to live.

I'm alive!
All alone on a rooftop in my city.
Contemplating life and it's meaning.
I'm alive and I want to live.

I'm alive!
As I shake my hands in the air and scowl at the moon.
Today is not my day to die.
I'm alive and I want to live.

Black cloud over you
Your a prisoner to you
Stuck in your mind
So many times
You’ve lost count

You’ve seen better days
In many ways
This is an ok day for you
Can’t seem to do anything
This has got the best of you

So let’s take that trip
To Bora Bora.
Let’s just runway from here.
We can go anywhere but here.

I Said the wrong thing
It wasn’t your fault I swear
It didn’t mean anything
Just a funny joke
That didn’t land where it was supposed to

Oh it may be harder then it looks.
Maybe the answers aren’t in those books
Medication doesn’t taste that good to you
I’m on your side but pull the trigger if it would make you feel good.

So let’s take that trip
To Bora Bora.
Let’s just runway from here.
We can go anywhere but here

One of those
Anthony Esposito Aug 2018
I’d hate to think of me as an afterthought.
A one shot glimpse of the past, like a flash of memory bursting into your mind when you see something familiar.
Maybe it reminds you of a certain time or place.
Just a second we might have shared.
But then it’s gone and I’m out of your mind again.
Not even a second thought.

I’d hate to be one of those people who can’t let things go.
That linger in the past .
That dwell on what if's.
Reminiscing about better times and youth; lost in drunken rambles to the wall.

I wish I was one of those men in one of those  movies.
Always knowing what to say and what to do.
Maybe I would have known  what to do then.
Maybe I would know what to do now.

I don’t want one of those happy ending.
I just want to be decently happy.
Is that so much to ask?
For decent happiness?

Dribble, Dribble, Dribble
The child bounces his ball, as the blacktop sizzles
The air choking from the heat, as the child's Nike's dance in the street
The sky a perfect blue, mixed with some clouds, maybe one or two
Dribble, Dribble, Dribble
The child is bound to the block
Made a promise to his mother to stay on the sidewalk
But promises are sometime broken
Dribble, Dribble, Dribble
From East to West
The child curiosity may have gotten the best
Out from his mothers watchful gaze, he is put to the test
Dribble, Dribble, Dribble
A shopkeeper watches the child go by
Reminds him of his son
Especially his smile.
Dribble, Dribble, Dribble
Past the child's middle school crush
Pink bow in her hair, matches her blush
Passes the ball through his legs, a teenage lush.
Dribble, Dribble, Dribble
One foot off the sidewalk, a tire screeches and swivels
Dribble, Dribble, Drop
The ball puttered to a slow stop

Long road
Anthony Esposito Nov 2018
Give me perspective,
Give me hope.
Give me the reason,
Give me the rope.

At the long road ahead we find that life can be hard.
Let’s come together, let’s make it work.
We are the future, let’s leave the past.
In the back of our minds untill it’s gone.

They talk in circles around your head.
They say your wrong when you are mad.
But you got questions to ******* thoughts.
It’s all a trick to make you question yourself.

At the end of your rope.
At the bottom of your hope.
Don’t be discouraged, don’t be afraid.
Your life is your own to break or save.

No light.
No life.
All dark.
All hate.
Be sound.
Be true.
Give love and make it what you want it to be.

At the end of your rope.
At the bottom of your hope.
Don’t be discouraged, don’t be afraid.
Your life is your own to break or save.

This place is a mess
Anthony Esposito Jul 2022
Called me told me you were pregnant
I was on shrooms
I was dancing on stage in my mind
The light in my eyes
I was blind

You Said “I’m gunna have your baby,
But I don’t really know if that’s what I want”
I said
“You do what you think is best”

And you said
“I don’t think your where you wanna be
And me,
I can’t take care of myself”

This place is a mess
And at best
We’re  not where we need to be
And you see it in me
I know

Don’t wait for me
I’m far behind
I’m never gunna catch up

We ain’t ever gunna match up

Don’t wait for me
I’m long forgotten
I’m not gunna catch up
I’m not gunna be there when it ends

The Great Moment Of Clarity
Anthony Esposito Aug 2023
There’s a calm I appreciate
The kinds that comes with peace
The kind you don’t get
Not unless your in that place
That void
The great moment of clarity
Where you find yourself alone
Laying back, relaxing
maybe listening to music
And your staring straight ahead
All your worries in the world
They go blank
Nonexistent
And you’re sitting there
Staring out into space
And you smile
Because you know
Your alright
You exist
You live to fight another day
And you kinda just melt
Into a pool of clarity
Peace of mind
True calm

Passenger on a Train

The lights start to flicker,
As the breaks begin to screetch.
But nobody bothers,
looking up from their feet.

The rush hour crowd,
Screams to be noticed.
But no one pays any mind,
They're to busy to notice.

Tired faces and crowded minds.
All different in different ways.
But when the subway doors slam shut,
We're all the same.

A passenger on a train.

To write this line and that
To dance around the facts
I’m sorry and your sorry

Told twenty times
times a million
Just a cute joke
Told over some smokes
Keep it cute like a game of war
Always a winner and loser

I saw her in a dream,
Her smile alone took me.
A perfect scene,
Of beauty taking form.

It wasn't long before I made her mine.
It wasn't long before the fighting.
What went so wrong?
We seemed to be surviving.

We had the world in our hands,
But it slipped through our fingers like sand in a glass.
Oh the past has a way of haunting us oh so bad.

In a dream I saw you praying.
In a dream I fell in love with you.
I always knew you were a survivor.
In a dream I saw you as who you were.

Say what you mean.
Anthony Esposito Sep 2017
I wrote you a letter but never sent it.
I still have the envelope.
I'm burdened by older days
Can't seem to push these thoughts away.

A dark room in a local bar.
We shared secrets we went to far.
I wrote it all down so I wouldnt forget.
Put it in a letter but didn't send it.

Why can't we ever say what we mean.
This life's to short to be discreet.
Why can't we ever say what we mean?
Sometimes this life feels like a dream.

I bought the stamp and everything.
I wrote the address so easily.
But when the time came
I couldnt do the deed.

And when I'm lost in thought it's always with you.
We promised things we couldn't make true.
What's wrong with us?

Why can't we ever say what we mean.
This life's to short to be discreet.
Why can't we ever say what we mean?
Sometimes this life feels like a dream.

So beautiful, so lovely.

And spread  it upon you.
Wrap you up in my arms,
And never let you go.

It’s just you.

You always leave the light on when you leave
As a reminder to me that you were there
And it isn’t fair.
Why should I be left to lay in my defeat
While you rush out and retreat.

You always leave the light on when you leave
I’m reminded that we’re just not meant to be.
To be comforted by an imprint in the sheets.
while a shadow makes it way to the street.

Dont I get a say in how we burn this village down?
You brought your Trojan horse to my beach.
And it’s like all we had is out of reach.
And oh how far I’ve reached.

You always leave the light on when you leave.
As a reminder that you were there and it isn’t  fair.
Why should I be left to lay in my defeat. While you rush out in your retreat.

But I'm still wondering who's laying next to you.
Burn the pictures and leave no evidence.
It's best for everyone involved.
Just keep your thoughts to yourself.

Thus don't control who you are.
Tonight just be happy for once

And immediately every hole

We told each other stories
Of ghost from our past
And how we were both Looking
To find happiness again.

When you say you have to go
I can see you want to stay.
And my head fills up with a thousand words to say.
But all I can get out is, “ok.”

And when the door closes shut
And I’m on the other side
I whisper to the dark
“I love you.”

For awhile we watched
As something special grew.
And everyday brought me closer to you,
A fire in my heart started to Burn.

But I would come to learn
The fire started to soon
And like the sun you went away
Replaced by the darkness.
And once again I found myself swallowed up by pain.

When you say you have to go

And my head fills up with a thousand words to say.
But all I can get out is, “ok.”

And when the door closes shut
And I’m on the other side
I whisper to the dark
“I love you.”

I’d like you to know I’ll  always remember you.
And the way your eyes danced in the light.
The way you warmed my heart
As I held you in my arms.
The touch of your skin against  my own.

Not to make any off handed suggestion.
But I’m curious of how you draw so much attention?
      You don’t seem to belong.
You haven’t even a resemblance of class.
I wonder if anyone’s ever told you?
How would that even come to pass ?
And what’s worse is you don’t seem to care.
Haven’t you got any shame?
Or do you hide in plain site wearing your pain?
I wonder what goes through your head?
When you act how you do.
Teasing the boys cause you like how it feels.
Spotlight on you like the sun always shining.
While all the boys you’ve hurt sit somewhere crying.
Your striding with a smile while inside your dying.
I wonder what love would help you be sill.

If not now when?
Anthony Esposito Jul 2017
"Don't you get tired of it all?" she said,
As we passed the bottle around again.

The same old faces in the same old basment not doing anything.

We all get high just to pass the time,
telling stories of when we were young.

And with each past shared we lose a bit of ourselves.
We sit there collecting dusts like books on a shelf.

And we laugh about how we'll never change and how we won't turn out like our parents.

The night time comes stirring up our spirits.
And with each passing moment we wonder if not now then when?

We used to call each other friends,
now we're miles apart and barley keep in touch.

It takes so much to bring it up in a sentence,
now we interact with post cards dated for a special occasion.

Like ghost inside our former selves,
Envious of who we used to be.
We sit alone and contemplate when we decided,
If not now then when?

Since when did divorce become a trend?
Since when did the beginning become the end?
Since when did we start tearing houses down?

What's wrong with the world?
When did our enemies become our friends?

The worlds so big for us to feel so small.
Just keep your head up kid you may just conquer it all.

Your a king!
Your a god!
Your the man with the plan!
You've got it all figured out.

When did we start bragging about nuclear war?
Since when did we throw our bibles to the floor?
Since when did we all become so bored?
Why do we joke about things that affect us all?

The worlds so small for us to feel so tall.
Just keep your head up kid you may just conquer it all.

Your a king!
Your a god!
Your the man with the plan!
You've got it all figured out.

Your home town tore down the markets and stores.
Put up skyscrapers and wanna build more.
The people are screaming and pleading for change.

In another puff of a cigarett
a thought of dead friend
You are the keeper
Of all youve ever known
In small towns circle square
Scream your thoughts that you don't care
About being heard here tonight
You fight for reasons you can get by

There's no more room for the last scream
Just one last word for you to hear
A last choice of words
That don't make it to the final script

You've kept this secret close for so long
This is t how it should end
There's another more words left in this song
That you keep singing to yourself

Oh dear god I hope your ready for a comback?

Take one last look at the past now.
You can keep trying for a different path
You are the last of the chosen
Who's words keep running around my head..

Saves one life
When it hit your blood you were lost,
Taken from the ones you loved.
Just a taste it took,
To make you a monster.

Your tongue stuck to the roof of your mouth.
You stuttered the words,
I love you so much.
Did you mean it?

He watched as your eyes rolled to the back of your head.
And you said,
This means you love me so much.

And you saw the future,
And you felt like a god.
But you never came back,
You just went to sleep.

Chasing a dragon,
That never looked back.
You had it all,
And you gave it all back.

So let it all be true,
What they say about you.
You were the hero,
And the villain of this story.

I’ll miss you forever,
I’ll think about you forever.
And I’ll tell your story till I die,
If it saves one life.

I once promised her the world.

Flowered her with gifts and words of love and affection.

Held hands and walked along the roads lest traveled.

Spent the night gazing at the stars sharing ghost stories from the past.

But like all good things our love did not last.

She grew tired of the moment and said love was not enough.

Next time I’ll have to be more careful.

Get away from here.

Stay.
If you dare.
If you don’t care about a single inch of self respect.

Don’t you blink.
Or it might disappear.
Every dream and aspiration that you’ve had.

Cause when the sun comes up every face looks so different.
All the good you saw turns bad and rots away.
And you find yourself asking why you ever stayed.

Look.
Look around.
This mile long town, it wasn’t yours to bare.

Do you care?
Would you blink if it was gone tomorrow?
Would you think about it at all?

So just go.
Just leave it all behind.
Don’t expect a face to look your way, your on your own.

Cause when the sun comes up every face looks so different.
All the good you saw turns bad and rots away.
And you find yourself asking why you ever stayed.

Don't read into this.

Let them flow.

Read what I wrote.
Think what I felt.
Know what I know.
Isn't that why your hear?
To read some words that make your care?
Or read a line that touches your fears?
A word to you is a memory to me.
Read what I say and think how I feel.

The summer arrives and beats it’s chest.
From frost bite to sun tans.
From cold wind to cool sand.
From warm gloves to warm hands.

Together we can explore it like it’s our own.
I got doubts but their small,

Conquerors of sand castles
And explores of blacktops
Captains of our own imagination
Inhabitants of a world not ours
Stumbling from each experience
To find ourselves lost
Belonging nowhere
and everywhere at once
We were the future
and now we are the past
Clenching to briefcases and money
Cars and Mortgage payments
Workplace Training videos
Love and Death
We were dreamers but we just dream now
Of better times
Old battles from the war on youth
Mistakes never forgiven
But never forgotten
Tilted back gazing into the void
Wondering where the child in you goes

The pavement is vibrating

But one thing in common

The cars stuck in traffic
Signal lights dancing above
Yeah it’s a familiar site
But brings such a delight to the soul
We all play a role
A beat to the drum of life
A pace to the step we all take
In directions all different but end all the same
So you can’t feel alone

These fears of doubt are something to think about.
I'm here. I hear you loud and clear.
But my hearts not in it and just don't care.

I'm not who I was.
We've seem to have lost our touch.
Go your way and have no fear.
One day I promise it will be clear.

Your here. I'm here.
Your fears are not my fears.
We're not the same.
And I don't blame you if you blame me.

Family
Anthony Esposito Apr 2019
The mother she is broken, tattered and torn.
shes given her soul to her family and lord.
The father is busy with work and a secretary with low self esteem.
The son is busy looking at boys and the daughters is busy with all sorts of boys.
Well what a family.
That’s what you call a family.

They married young right out of high school.
She got knocked up and that’s where it went downhill
He started drinking and messing around.
She kept busy stuck close to the house.

Now one crying baby led to another.
A strong face was worn by the mother.
The father slaves to bring in some cash.
But he just wished to rewind the past.

Well that’s a family.
That’s whats you call a family.
One big happy family.

Douchebag
Anthony Esposito Aug 2019
My coworker called me a ******* today.
It hurt, but I guess that’s ok.

I’ll carry it with me like I do most things, on most days.

On my way home from work, with the sun glaring in my eyes, the red light stared me down.
A nagging thought followed me back to my town.

I’m not a ******* I thought.

Back at the place where I lay my head.
My dinner sits cold on the table.
My mind spinning with a single, torturous thought.

I am not a *******.

The night comes, as it always does.
The sun hides away, while the moon comes out to play.

As I sit in the dark, focused on the infinite darkness.
I can’t help but think.

I am not a *******.

We tell ourselves
Anthony Esposito Mar 2022
I never know what to say
In an awkward situation
I smile when I’m nervous
I don’t speak
I can get anxious
I’m tired of being tired
I’m sad from being sad so long

I feel like I’ve been standing still
Waiting in an endless line
An unknown destination
I wish I could leave my mind
Be anywhere but here

There is no cause for alarm
Everything will be fine
We tell ourselves
the funniest things sometimes

What’s there to smile for
I say to myself in the mirror
Out of fear I agree
Say something smart and walk away
All my friends say I am weird
That’s ok cause I am
That’s the plan
To keep everyone away

There is no cause for alarm
Everything will be fine
We tell ourselves
the funniest things sometimes

This life
Anthony Esposito Jun 2018
I’m so far gone but I’m not getting bigger.
The problem grows, persist and gets bigger.
I’m not alone but the room it gets smaller.
I’m waiting for space.
But I’m getting impatient.
The world spins and I’m getting sicker.

No time to morn
The past it gets meaner.
You’ve stood your ground.
Your friends have delivered.

Now bow your head.
The world it gets bigger.
No time to cry.
Your sad and your bitter.

You count the days.
They grow and get longer.
You’ve run out of space
This life it gets bigger.

A thousand miles,
A million years.
A half done speech,
It’s your to share.

This life is dull.
It’s yours to repair.
No time to stay
This life it gets bigger.

I’ll remember you
I hold a bottle to the sky
To toast to you
You’ve gone away
Not forever but maybe
Depending on what you believe

I’ll miss you dear
I’ll miss you forever
I’ll keep your picture in my rearview mirror
I’ll always remember you

Your smile left a print
I’ll miss it dear
It made me happy when I was sad
I’ll have to get used to that

The way your car smelled like cigarettes
It was the worst
But it was you
And I will miss it too

I’ll see you see you soon
It’s not goodbye
Or it is
Depending on what you believe

I’ll miss you dear
I’ll miss you forever
I’ll keep your picture in my rearview mirror
I’ll always remember you

The rain came
Anthony Esposito Dec 2019
In what was probably fate, the rain came.
Crashing down on roof tops and side walks.
But today of all days?
it figures with my luck.
Never sun shine and no traffic.
Just rain and red lights.

I hate the rain.
I wish it would go away.
Maybe I should do a rain dance and make it disappear.
Mr. Rain man they would call me.

Calling it on account of rain.
I’m not available.
The rain came and ruined it all.

Time
Anthony Esposito Jan 2018
The cold air presses against my face,
And I feel so alive.
The atmosphere feels so aligned.
I'm surrounded by the ones I love.
This is the the perfect Time.

We only have time to waste.
We only have time to make,
Our greatest dreams come true!

We waste so much time waiting for things to happen for us.
We only have time to make things happen for us.

Time moves so fast.
It's here and then it's gone.
Time is what keeps us grounded.
Keep that in mind.

The time is now.
The time is always.
Like be those who love you.
And never forget.

My path
Anthony Esposito Jun 2018
I have not seen the shiny city upon the hill.
I have not dabbled in violent thrills.
I have not gazed upon a setting Sun,
To busy always looking at the ground.
Such beauties have I never known even when in front of me.
What do I make with what is left?
What path do I carve out for myself?
Do I run through the night in the Moons dancing light?
Pray to a mighty God gazing from the sky?
Perhaps sit still in the dark and wait.
Past the city lights out beyond the island,
An ocean so blue and big.
I imagine my thoughts are carried by the wind out to someone else.
I have not found my peace of mind,
Although im not so sure I want to.
This violent life brings violent surprises.
I await for my next.

I Wonder What
Anthony Esposito Feb 2019
I was smoking a cigarette, in the early morning hours.
Devoured by the fog that came to claim its home.
The neighbors started shouting as they usually do.
The city starts to wake and speak.
I wonder what it says to you?

The wife began to clamor out the front door.
Dragging behind her, her husbands clothes.
He followed behind her not fazed and unamused.
Like this had happened before.

A single taxi  stutters by.
No service sign is lit.
The drivers face, like a ghost.
I wonder where he’s been?

The whole world is working.
It never stopped, since I’ve been standing here.
The streets lights begin to flicker off.
The sun begins to rise.
My cigarette has long been out.
And my lungs again fed up.

I wonder where your waking up?
I wonder do you think of me?
A city so big you could hide forever.
A city so big we could rule it together.
Set fire ourselves.
Burn it down if that’s what we pleased.
Or we can build it up.
Have towers in the sky.
And watch it till we grow old together.
I wonder if this could be?

Contest
Anthony Esposito May 2018
And let memories take shape
Underneath these hollow stars,
I wait for the perfect moment.

Chatter on the radio,
Makes  so much sense the listen close.
But your heart it keeps in line.
And all your dreams they fall in line.

You’ve been waiting for this.
the perfect moment to come alive.
They’ve been rooting for you.
The moment the contests becomes alive.

They cheer for the winning team,
That could have been you.
They hope for clarity.
That has past between you.

Night time is yours to build.
This earth is your refuge.
Take hope in common ground.
They’v been rooting for you.

Cold Dark Night
Anthony Esposito May 2019
Its the cold dark night
That tears apart  your heart
And leaves you in the dark
Hollowed out to rot.

The sounds they are so deafening
Of sirens going past.
The city lights are blinding
From above the shadows cast.

And you call out to the wind.
And hear the silence stay.
You were once alive.
But now your left astray.

In the cold dark night
Your worst fears they come alive.
And eat at you like demons
From below and above they fight.

Its the cold dark night
That tears apart  your heart
And leaves you in the dark
Hollowed out to rot.
