Katapatan ganon parin
Kaibiga'y maramdamin

Patawad unang sambit
Nitong kaibigan ay hibik
Paumanhin nawa'y kamtin
Siyang aking panalangin

Sama ng loob ang dulot
Kaibigang aking nilimot
Ngunit hindi nayayamot
Mawala ka'y aking takot

Tawanan laging naaalala
Biruan nating masasaya
Payo mo'y pumapayapa
Ng pusong lagi lumuluha

Sanay 'wag akong limutin
Kaibigan nagtatampo din
Gaya mo rin, may suliranin
Araw-araw aking pasanin.

Patawad kung nahirapan
na ako ay pakisamahan
Patawad kung di masiyahan
na ako ay pakitunguhan

Sanay huwag magsawa
Laging may laan na unawa
Kahit minsan nagagawa
Sayo'y hindi na nakatutuwa

Mga salitang akin nabitawan
Pawang totoong kahulugan
Subalit kaaway pinipigilan
Ang pagbabagong inaasam

Ngunit iyong laging tandaan
Oh aking mahal na kaibigan
Ikaw siyang kinasangkapan
Upang tungkuli'y masumpungan

I.
Time passes, another
batch of refugees and migrants. Cities turn into
new houses of gambling and vicious cycles.
Some say only machines can speak clearly
and most humans have lost what they have earned
throughout all this time, just right on schedule.

To own our language,
and the relationships it sets into motion,
we learn painfully, repeatedly like sunrise
and sunsets.
Claiming our own spaces and demons
hidden in our conveniences and reflex routines,
and learning the tricks that has kept peoples
from fully healing from broken promises
and betrayals throughout time.

We own up to our language and its demons
every day and night that we toss and turn
into something feasible, edible, livable.

II.
Iba ibang uri ng digma.
duguang kasaysayang binabaong buhay
ay "city with no memory".

I'm not good. things aren't gooood.
You know things aren't good when you aren't enjoying them.
My head is bobbing back and forth confused with charts and numbers and deadlines and fees and insurance and taxes and working out and-

No. I'm tired. I'm not even 22 yet.

A text message from my dad can ruin my day.

Modelo and lime, that is the best part of my day.

Pretending to be cheery is terrible. I don't want a desk job, I don't want to be a regular at some ****** bar where I go with my friends every Wednesday.

I want clarity, I want to have some sort of stationary object that I can hold and count on.

don't we all.

It's not like things are really bad, but they aren't good.

Isang halimbawa ng magandang asal
Mumunting dasal kanyang inuusal
Pambihirang talino,  dedikasyon at dangal

Kanyang ituturo talagang kaabang abang

(A través
Varona inmortal, flor de mi costilla.Hombres soy.¿Hay en mi sangre alguna gota de sangre de África, o de indio chorotega o nagrandano? Pudiera ser, a despecho de mis manos de marqués;

we ditched the main path and ran up the mountain bike trail,
gained some elevation,
we found the rusted remains of a car wreck off the side of the trail
that must have been sixty years old.
afterwards we shared nachos and modelo especial,
that was nice.
my body was wrapped in the warm pink blanket
rocking on the wicker chair as you
paced back and forth on the front of the porch and I
couldn’t hear the devil speaking from between your lips because my eyes were softly shut,
my being a blind cloud floating
softly in the nighttime cigarette smoke,
the part of me you were trying to hurt was the insides floated out,
just a cloud watching the clear night sky
and the cupid's arrows and the knives hurling
back and forth back and forth blew right through me,
because I was somewhere else.
but babe you are so sharp!
so I came back together to run inside and grab my pocket knife,
I sat down on the steps by the side of the porch where you couldn’t see me but you could
and sliced a dramatic **** on my right thigh
13 cm length 5 mm width
the blood flowed fantastically, unexpectedly fast dark and shocking, trickling down my leg
just like when you come inside me and I stand up.
I did it for the devil, and so you’d pause the devilry and take care of me
which you know how I like and which you did,
taking the blade from my hand putting an arm around me
examining and cleaning the wound
the blood staining your jeans
pooling wasted on the concrete.
later in the night I chucked the knife into the grass far away
where it remained neglected till the morning
when I came to collect it.
you fall asleep so fast in my bed baby, even when
the night’s been so bad, even when the
moon’s out full and the clouds blown all away
the devil floating softly ubiquitous.
you start to sweat softly and small twitches play across you
from the nightmares playing ubiquitous in your conscious unconscious
I watch you sleep and watch the sweat collect in droplets on your skin
thinking you look like a wet angel hoping you’ll never wake up
I wonder, do abusers learn from their abusers how to hurt?
the way you love baby the way you love it feels
a lot like hurt
Fiereza desvalida, hecha a mirar
el mar...
Boca en bisel, como un espejo afable
que no hable...
Medias de almo color; para que vaya
por la cernida arena de la playa...
Las deleznables manos,
que cavan pozos enanos,
son carceleras de los océanos...
Linda congoja de la frente linda,
la que inerme y tiránica se brinda
por modelo de copa y de coyunda
y de lira rotunda...
Retrato de iniciales sinfonías:
tus cinco años son cinco bujías
a cuya luz el alma llora;
por eso a ti me abro
como a la honestidad versicolora
de un diminutivo candelabro.
Los invisibles hombros, cual quimera
en que un genio marítimo retoza,
no columbran siquiera
Párvula del retrato;
seriedad prematura;
linda congoja de un juego nonato
que enfrente del fotógrafo se apura;
pelo de enigma, como los edenes
enigmáticos desde donde vienes;
leyéndote mortífera y vital;

Here I am feeling like a teenage boy,
Clouded by Modelo’s crazy toxic joy,
Crawling bars to clubs a wannabe play boy.

There you are with big shining eyes,
Driving Mercedes, flying black hair,
Exotic perfect legs, glowing creamish skin.

Aren’t you really an electric woman?
Freeze a man with your simple smile?
Skip his beat with your soft little touch?

Aren’t I lucky, found you as my friend,
Surfer I thank, Salsa made me attend,
Longing for time, wish had more to spend!

we loop together
like ivy over broken down cars
full circle once again
we fall out
miss each other and
we sync back into
infatuation
it’s lovely
vain and
impermanent
like the planet
and us within it

man’s garden
of garbage
valueless lottery tickets and
soiled coffee cups
watered with soda and fragments of
Modelo bottle glass shards
we prop up our feet on lawn chairs
and watch it grow

i grow weary of watching
the world sharpen it's teeth
with a rusty file
and trying to smile
at the same time.

who would want to measure
raindrops in a thunderstorm
when you could just feel them
hit your face?

exit stage left when you
want to stretch a minute
into infinity.

that advice came from a ghost
of a man and cost me a cigarette
and a can of Modelo.

worth is relative, i hear.

I'm handling an unprecedented change
– in modern times, anyways –
with much more elegance
(or at least competence)
than I would have guessed.
I'm much too stressed to properly introspect,
but I'm occasionally caught questioning if this is the greatest story of my time –
if I should really be hiding out
(crying and nursing a Modelo and lime)
or out finding what our story is
and documenting it for those who come after this – if anything comes after this.

We're all just a bunch of kids
standing on the beach
with the waves crashing on us,
all ******* undertow:
sea salt and ocean spray.
Child's play drowned
under the realization
that nature is so ******* big
and that we are so miniscule
in retrospect:
how can humanity,
practiced at circumventing empathy,
come together to weather this calamity?
Is this just an illness
or a symptom of a sickness
that's been waiting to arrest our
brutish tresspassing
since we stole our first trembling breaths
and didn't give them back?
Humanity is always one disaster away from complete collapse. It's kind of like a metaphor for my life
Caro Nov 3
Today, my mom and I obsessed over my kitten's beauty:
"she's so precious"
"mirala come se pone asi"
"a work of art"
"her eyes are BEAUTIFUL"
"un modelo"
"preciosa"
resounding in the air around her
as she tore at the rug by the door with sharp claws
motivated by each word of praise wafting around her.
Then I said:
"I think she could have been a show cat, but her personality won't allow it"
and then mom got busy with her breakfast
and I had some space for my thoughts
Sometimes, when I notice something new about my cat
I wonder what this new knowledge
Can tell me about myself.
I think I am just the same as her
I could have been a show girl, a show something, a trophy wife, or by now a print model getting botox to fend off the aging that tugs on my laugh lines
But my personality, won't allow it.
Too sensitive, too knowing for that 'could have been' that's not for me.
Too disregulating to my nervous system to be beautiful and voiceless.
Again, again, again, again
Thousands of times in this mind I contemplate myself
As if I am constantly being beheld by a thousand eyes who will judge my value as a thing of beauty
Will that ever end?
I don't think so and I suppose it's something to accept.
That's being a woman in this life isn't it?
Being a cat, always beheld.
Or who cares if it's being a woman or a cat.
It's a distinct part of my psyche to be beheld.
Just like it's an integral part of my cats life to be beheld and praised as she tears up a vintage rug.
