Does life have a meaning?
Are we souls, bound in mortal shells?
Could we ever know the way-
To heaven, away from hell?

Hell, what if this is it?
No ascension, one life, one day?
And with a single mistake-
Does it all go away?

I'm scared, shaking in fear,
Could we comprehend a purpose?
Or once the candle is snuffed-
Is the melted wax worthless?

My dreams of us were rich
But the reality of us was poor
I just can’t stop you
From walking out my door
I was falling
While you were growing bored
I’m left alone wishing
That I could’ve meant more

There’s got to be more to life
There has to be something beyond waking up every morning frustrated and angry
Angry at your husband for not cleaning up a drink that your child spilled and leaving it for you to clean up
There’s got to be more to life
More than just laundry, dishes, sweeping, and mopping
I dreamed of growing up to be a wife and a mom, yes but I was appreciated for it in my dreams
In reality, I’m never thanked
There’s got to be more to life
Or my gravestone will read,
“Here lies Sarah Maher. She hated her life.”

Therapy
Is that all I am?
All I will ever be?
His therapy
Never the one he’ll love
Always the one he’ll run to
Will you ever notice the storm behind my eyes?

The best kind of therapy
Used up but useless
His therapy
Never the one he’ll miss at night
Always the one he’ll “need” come sun light
Will you ever feel this heaviness in my soul?

Destined to never be heard
But always be listening
Everyone’s therapy
Fixing all your problems
Forever your sounding board
Morning, noon or night
You could never be an inconvenience right?

You’ll take all my advice
Soak up every word
Yet you’d drop my heart on to the ground
Walk away
Wipe your hands of the blood
on your ***** jeans
All you’ll ever want from me
Is free therapy

Writing in prose
allows me to freely say
*******
without needing to rhyme
or sugar coat it in metaphors
until the point gets lost in imagery
Did you ever have a sweet tooth, or attitude?
