In the end
the lone survivor
comes to learn,
a bit too late,
what is his, and their
and our
ultimate fate.

He learns that he,
and all fallen
comrades
were merely
chess pieces
on God’s
well worn
playing board.

Some pieces are
made of
wood,
some are made of
iron,
others still,
made of
stone,

but, they all fall
in the end.

One will drown,
one will fall off
a cliff,
and break his
neck,
and yet another
will get ripped apart
and eaten
by a pack of
rabid wolves,

but they all fall
in the end.

And only God decides,
who, what, where
and why.

Inspired by a movie about a group of men trying to survive a plane crash, in a snowed region.
The morning comes
and the alarm sounds,
alerting me that its
time to get up
and begin our
morning routine.

First day
of the new
school year.

I watch as
my sons get
dressed,
eat breakfast,
and ready for
their first day.

Nerves are rumbling
in little stomachs,
but, there is also
a sense of excitement
at the thought of
seeing old friends.

This day reminds me
of renewal,
and the beginning,
ending, a new beginning
of stories and chapters
already lived,
and stories yet to be
played out
on life’s
proverbial stage.

They are my heros,
my little ones,
in more ways
than one.

I only pray
their first day
is better than
mine used to be,
growing up.

They are not
as awkward or shy
or broken,
full of attacks of
nerves and anxiety,

almost to the point
of crippling,
or doubling over
with stomach pains,
all from the stress...

of the first
day of school.

 Aug 2014 The Unbeliever
Jack
Found on the edge of desire
Facing the answers unknown
Desperate to stand in the fire
No longer living alone

Crying for deeds left a’ waiting
Rolling these thoughts in my mind
Oh of this love now creating
Searching for all I can find

Hopeless a word with no meaning
Not that my heart will allow
Some they may whisper I'm dreaming
None that can prove to me how

Real is the state of this vision
Nothing but truth stands so tall
Into her charms now my mission
Making such sense of it all

Reaching so I am not missing
Now as my knees touch the ground
Lips that I wish I was kissing
Perfect this woman I’ve found

Distance, the longest of dances
I follow the moon high above
Capturing all of my chances
So I may feel her sweet love

For Dread Poet Roberts Haiku Challenge
O you,
you enlightened rogue,
scratching & scribbling,
clawing
at your meager existence.
You insist,
you insist it's love
you squeeze,
drain from
your tortured soul.
But alas,
I feel it's something deeper,
something so close to your darkened core,
something begging for release,
a ******* radiant light,
pooling off your tongue.
my heart explodes with joy
as I flutter my wings

I will never fly as gracefully
or as long as the other birds

but when I am in the air
even for a moment
I feel free

my broken wings lift me up
to where I do not know,
but somewhere etched in my heart

a strange thing happened when I
started singing songs of gratitude
for learning to fly with broken wings

other birds with broken wings
started to gather around me
sharing their experience and hopes

I am free as my heart sings joyfully
my own hopes and dreams
as I share my experience
to help another bird with broken wings
to journey a little closer
to the place etched in their hearts

and somehow I am exactly
where I am supposed to be
flying with broken wings

A kiss from your lips
Can make bitter taste sweet.
The feeling of your touch
Can bring feeling back to lost feet.

Dark days are irrelevant
In this apocalyptic place.
I feel nothing but happiness,
When I see your beautiful face.

But those sunny days
Don't seem to last.
Nothing but storms
Seem to be my forecast.

Because I see you with him,
And it produces pain.
I'm outside with no umbrella
And it's starting to rain.

I knew there was something about her
the first time I saw her.
There she was,
standing at the keg
pouring beers
for a long line of guys.
Her ample chest
was falling out of her blouse,
she had the deepest cleavage,
was passing out kisses
to all the boys.
And as I got closer,
I could hear
she was slurring her words
& taking verbal ****
from the ******* around me.
They were laughing
worse than sick clowns,
calling her all sorts of
disrespectful names.
And sadly,
I stood there thinking
"Hey dudes, none of this is her fault."
She was telling them
her daddy said she was a great kisser...
and asking them,
"Would you like to find out?"
