Digo que português
é uma língua mentirosa.
Distorce, engana
e ainda goza.

Digo "Tenho saudades".
Não pode estar correto.
Como posso eu ter algo
quando não te tenho perto?
A poem in my mother tongue, Portuguese, about the word "saudade" (longing). In Portuguese we tell someone we miss them by saying what directly translates to "I have longing", like something you have. That's what this poem is about. Here is a translation:

I say Portuguese
is a lying language.
Distorts, cheats
and even makes fun.

I say "I have longing".
That can't be right.
How can I have something
when you're not by my side?

It sounds a lot better in Portuguese, I promise

i used to write
poems about you
all the time
you didn't know tho
(you didn't know my love)

but it worked
out for us two
didn't think
it'd be different too
(different from the others)

so i wrote
and i wrote
then i stopped at last
now i can say the words
now i can finally say it to you
i love you

I've come to think
of my heart like a closet
Like those old ones
With an old key to close it

And it's used to being closed
Warm with dark, mold and rust
Hope you find your place there
Let me know if you're scared

'Cause my heart's like a closet
And it's empty inside
Except for my best friends
And now you, shining bright

I don't want this to be
Like a movie I'd see
I want the good, the bad
And all the boring in between.

only good girls go to hell
'cause who else would take
all that suffering and pain?

You stayed awake
To make sure I'm okay
It made my heart shake
Now I won't sleep anyway

By knowing you
I thought I knew
Just everything
You'd ever do

I can picture you,
Eyes open wide
Just to don't go sleep
Just to say goodnight

and I stare out of the window
as the sunlight hits the car
see the shadows on the mountains
now they're closer, now they're far
