settlers came to the frontier lands
holding guns in their seizing hands
the tribal people's tears and blood
fell on the earth in a torrential flood*

they'd been dispossessed of terrain
so lasting was the anguishing pain
their ancient grounds ceded away
to the occupier's colonizing sway

the Indians of the vast Dakota plains
had a culture under great strains
the foot-print put down by forebears
was nearly lost like the brown bears

yet the spirit of the tribes still survive
in their ancestral territory it's alive
they've a heritage enduring of flow
*which is seen in the sun's risen glow
product endorsements
are what I like to do
and boy have I got
a good product for you
since I've been wearing
the EverFlex brand
of shoe
endorsing them is all
I like to do
they've a comfortable fit
and on the foot
they so nicely sit
EverFlex are the kings
in the shoe-making vocation
and should you not be
slipping into a pair
your feet won't be
sensing elation
in a few weeks time
the New England's hilly landscape
will wear fall robes
eight wickets
eight wickets
he did so well score
on the pitch at Bangalore

he spun the ball
he spun the ball*
in the first session of play
over after over toiling away

his efforts were fab
his efforts were fab
bamboozling the batsmen
with a seaming flight of hem

not since Warne
not since Warne
had such a display been seen
on the oval's twenty two yard sheen

a magic spell
a magic spell
Lyon's spinning technique
*was truly magnifique
in a serene pose she lay, on her passing day
life's brow creases did fade, on her passing day

all of her suffering went away, to death's tranquil bay
sleep eternal being made, when she drifted on the day

her hands clasp as if to pray, repose's psalm did so say
departing for heaven's glade, peaceful was her day

rest perpetual in array, a quietude still of stay
the face beautifully bade, with an expiring day*

a body hushed of May, her forever allay
*profound the slumber's lade, Ada's final day

Let self-esteem make you beam.
Make thick-skin your fort.
Have Belief in every dream
And hold that Positive Thought.

I’m a geographer who doesn’t much like to travel,
A writer who reads slow,
Artistic scientist,
With not a lot to show.

An enigmatic person
With strengths and foibles too.
For I am only human,
Very much like you.

A historian with a bad memory,
That just sums me up.
I have my limitations,
Yet still a half-full cup.

I may be self-effacing,
But have the strength to be honest.
I’ll get there in the end,
To fulfil what I’ve promised.

I know that isn’t a lot,
But I do have my talents.
When all is said and done,
My books do more or less balance.

I’m happy with myself I have to say,
So if you are a critic
Get on your way.
