Raymond Chandler, me, and Dashiell are chewing the fat down at
     the Formosa
Under a cracked red lamp where we are made to feel welcome for
as long as we can pay
These are the mean streets of Los Angeles in 1948

The day's developments involved a lot of questioning -- we are
tired of being grilled by hordes of grim-faced police
Detectives we knew, some we'd even played cards with
They said we weren't suspects --- at least not yet
All three of us had this agent, who now is very dead and someone
who did not like him put a bullet through his head

Then pinned a note on his messy chest, which said, "I won't be
needing you anymore, here's your ten percent."
Sam ***** and Philip Marlowe would have a tough one to figure
     out
Here, everybody hates agents and ours had too big a mouth
Imagine --- he would tell us how he made us into writing stars
Someone punctuated him but just left question marks

On this grey and foggy evening where we chase the dawn
Our fedoras by our sides, just as cops have guns
We're heavy into whisky --- it's writers' remorse
Who will make the deals for us --- for a commission of course?

The bartender is so angry and weathered --- as if he'd fought World           War II all by himself
Dashiell and Chandler got so looped they took a cab ride home
I'm walking now towards the ocean - I will sleep all day
Then head for my typewriter -- maybe call William Morris or H.N. Swanson
See if they've got any writing jobs that pay.

The sad face of the newspaper vendor tells it  all
The world is a mess
We all take the fall
His somber visage
That thin, grim smile
He barely says hello
All the while I scan the headlines
Crises galore
What’s more is the sad notion
We must brace for more
Darkness and pain
That’s reality
Woe for the world
Woe for you and me
But I’m not giving up yet
Neville Johnson May 2022
I’ve got the night beat
This is my town
Come with me
I get around
I know the clubs
Got friends everywhere
Know where the lovers park
We could go there
But first its time for a bite
At the Elbow Room
Cool jazz with some chard
Then we Zoom to the palace on the alley
The decor I swear is something to die for
From there, we go cruising down the boulevard
You and me with the top down in my Firebird
Yes I’ve got the night beat
You’re coming with me
The evening is young
So are we

I write obituaries for a living and this is my life
I write about the ordinary who lived extraordinary lives
Who were special
Who survive in our memories
I explain to the masses
The differences they made
Life is funny that way
We get a service where anywhere from a few to hundreds attend
Is that it?
Maybe there is an obituary
That’s where I come in
There’s a story in every person
In every life
It goes by so fast
I sometimes wonder who will write mine
Neville Johnson Apr 2020
The old man and the river
Friends for so long
Family they are
Wild and strong
Sometimes angry
Rushing too fast
That old man is me
We’ve got a past

I grew up by the river
I learned from its currents
When to stay off
Where the fish hid
The submerged rocks
It provided comfort
When my love life turned bad
When I needed solace
The river was all I had

Now I’m an old man
Nothing has changed
We’re still in this together
Come sunshine or rain
Together, forever
We shall live out our days
My friend understands me
For me, I believe it prays
Neville Johnson Dec 2023
Inseparable
Indispensable
Exceptional
Inspirational
Oh my goodness
So much goodness
Surrounding me

She’s the one
My only one
She believes in me, in us
For eternity

So it is
So it goes
On and on and on
She and me in perpetuity
Gone, we’re just gone
Into the essence of triumphant love
A romance for all time
Goodness gracious sakes alive
So lucky she is mine
Neville Johnson May 2020
The daughter I never had
The son that should have been mine
The love never consummated
The years gone by
The sadness and the sorrow
The what I should have done
The memories we never made
It could have been such fun

I look back through rain-soaked windows
I see us walking in the sun
Rainbows all around us
The love we could have won

The feelings are forever
The lives we since have led
The paths that we both followed
The past we cannot shed
The grim smile as I give thanks
The words I did not say
To the one I truly love
The one that got away
Neville Johnson Aug 2020
The point of human life is love
It all comes down to this
Love, sweet love
Bliss, true bliss

Rambling down the road
One long good time
Nuzzling and cuddling
We’re gonna be fine

It’s easy if you try
Hard to say no
When it’s there
It resonates
The only way to go
Neville Johnson May 2018
He went into life an underdog
Orphaned at age 3
From one foster home to another he was shunted
What would he be?
He just wanted to be wanted
The basic need
Nowhere to go, he joined the Navy
There he got structure
Guidance he could trust
An education, even more
He grew up to be person
With a heart made of gold
He went on in life even-keeled
More than that, he found his soul

You see, there’s more to this story
What he achieved after that
Now adopting a swath of foster kids
Giving backpacks to foster kids
No more plastic sacks
He’s going to heaven for sure

So honor him and thank him for his service to life
Maybe take his lesson, it’s kindness, be nice
Be thankful for what you have
Give back to society
And how about this underdog
And his humanity!
This is a true story.

The parties and galas are over
Now it’s just you and me
Hunkering in our hideout
Luxuriating in the sea breeze
Yes we had a good time
We’ve got friends galore
I sure like to be with you
For all your kisses and more

I’m very encouraged
Happy we are this way
After all the festivities
It’s time for us to play
You’re my best friend and I am yours
How lucky you and me
We got it together
How it’s gotta be
Neville Johnson Aug 2020
She moved into his life
And he into hers
Seamlessly they united
Love as the cure
The perfect combination
Sure and pure
Amazing and beautiful
Each with such allure
So it was
Now it is
Ever it shall be
She and him
The perfect pair
In love endlessly
Neville Johnson May 2022
The plane is landing
What new adventures await
Let’s explore this city
Let’s stay up late
Let’s kiss in public
To let everyone know
We’re a couple of lovers
Who can’t say no
To a good time
With intimacy
We’re on our way
My baby and me
Neville Johnson Apr 2021
The Princess needed to get away
A humdrum life she led
Movies have been made about this predicament
But this one is real, at a head
She wanted, needed, a holiday
So one day she slipped out of the palace, no one could see
She was off to have fun on her own, for the first time sightsee
Our young man had a day off, did not keep track of royalty
He spotted our lass at the patisserie
Invited her for pastry and coffee
Conversation ensued
It went so well, it imbued in their thoughts
That it was right that they should be enthused
At the prospects, the sheer happenstance
Both so alive, both so entranced
He worked as a doctor, healing the poor
She was coy about her life to her new suitor
Eventually she relented, told him who she was
She was trapped in royalty, that big because
You’ll be pleased to know they found a way
To kiss in bliss before the end of that day
And many thereafter, so many more
They now have two kids, one more in store
She’ll be queen one day, her love life secure
Neville Johnson Feb 2020
She was awful cute the public defender thought
So he figured out a way to talk to her in the hall
Did so in a break
Did she like coffee and could she have some with him?
It was a date
Lisa with the flaxen hair
That precious smile
So sinewy her lithe figure
Our boy filled with desire
Doing his best to make some time
Romance at the courthouse is not as hard come by
As maybe you would think
If I told you how many judges have married their court reporters
You’d probably wink
Charlie kept at it
Assiduously
He’d pop by her courtroom with regularity
They went to dinner
Hiking in the hills
He finally kissed her
Both of them thrilled
He looked at her with longing
Which she returned in full
You can see where this is heading
They both said “I will”
They now have whippersnappers
The full panoply
They still work at that courthouse
Ever after, happily
Neville Johnson Sep 2023
Getting old means looking forward and looking back
It’s just the way it is
We must face the facts
Remembering what was good
Yes, those were the days
There are more to come
Bring them on, we’ll be unfazed

Notwithstanding sorrow
Which exists for us all
We remain optimists
To be in the thrall
Of our common human endeavor
As time races us and we race time
To an end we cannot define
Neville Johnson Mar 2023
The rain falls gently
Softly soothing the sadness
As time goes by
A crackling fire
A happy tabby
A glass of Chardonnay
Everything I need
Except her
And what has come to be
Will she return?
That I’d like to know
Gone for good?
Or just the ebb and flow
The ups and down of any relationship?
I just don’t know

So I like the rain
At least it’s there for me
I stay inside
Inside with my thoughts
And memories
Watching, waiting, hoping
For the doorbell to ring
I’ll have another sip of wine
Try and think of other things
Neville Johnson Mar 2022
I'm looking in the rear view mirror
See me catch that high fly ball
I walk the river with a lover
Steal a kiss at the waterfall
Life was a high five when it was way back when
Then reality started chasing me
But I run fast, my friend

Life is a series of moments
Of people places and things
Of memories that last forever
Back when I was the king of nonchalance
When I had everything
Most notably my freedom
When she was still my queen

They were better than good times
The best of all there is
A living breathing fortress of love
Picture this
Her and me
Laughing, smiling faces
Always on the run
We lived in that present perfect
Then we were done in by enclosing shadows
Winds we could not control
She married someone else
I lost her, that old soul

So into the rear view mirror I sit and gaze
I doing fine I'm proud to say
Were those better days?
I'll never know, not as long as I have each today
There's still a long road ahead
And it's a brand new day
Neville Johnson Nov 2016
I was born into this
I had no choice
I love my war-torn country
It is, er, was my home
But I'm a refugee, along with 5 million others
And you, the world, don't want us?
Like you own the earth God put us on?
We're all entitled to food and shelter
I will work to the bone
Be a good citizen
Bombs and bullets have driven me from my home
I just want peace
To get a good night's sleep
To get out of this tent
To have a hot meal
To reunite my family
To live
Simply to live
To find the love in this world.
Neville Johnson Sep 2016
There's a someone for everyone
At least, there oughta be
You can't go through life individually
It's a contact sport where the play is for keeps
It's open to all, the way it must be

Love is random, where do you start?
Without rules, you just do your part
You know it when you feel it, you'll hear the call
An inevitable pull, time to give it your all

A blessing it is, a curse for no one
The essence of life, time the only enemy
Until you arrive in the rainbow
You won't want to leave
Neville Johnson May 2021
There was a boy who loved the girl
But it all went awry
I can’t say their names or give you hints
That’s not the way it works
If you think you know who I’m talking about you won’t be the first
It’s Sunday mourning
The spirit has come to town
Arriving with remembrances
Of when she used to be around
That boy really loved that girl
She loved him right back
Call it fate, bad luck or happenstance
Doesn’t matter much
It just turned out bad for both
They miss each other’s touch
Loving each other from a distance
Ever it shall be
They had so very much
Neville Johnson Jun 2023
There was someone else before Jennifer
But she’ll never know
There’s no need to tell her
What good would it do?
That was a lifetime ago
It’s over with but not done
The heartache will last forever
Still, he’s moving on
Sandy is her name
She with the golden hair
Unfortunately, she was married to another
There’s never any good ending to an affair
So Jimmy has moved on
He’s now with Jennifer
What she doesn’t know won’t hurt her
Their future appears sure
No more Sandy
Jimmy is moving on
He’ll stay with Jennifer
Neville Johnson Mar 2023
Love doesn’t wait around
It didn’t for me
When my inamorata
For whom I had waited so long
Announced she was ready
Ready to be with me
I delayed, chuffed at her delay
Three weeks later she was gone
Married a business manager
Took me many years to get over her

Then there was the time I was a two-timer
Stupid me
I didn’t push enough to see which one was real
My true love left me with that last great photo
It’s all is that’s left is to conjure up what might have been
So take it from me
Be on your game
Because love is no game
That love was taken from me
I was robbed by my indolence
That robber is me

John wrote love stories as a writer in a particularly singular voice given that he was particularly single and didn’t want to be
He’s always written great loves for his characters, but there wasn’t one in his life
Kimberlee owned a literary website about romance and picked up one of his books
To her delight, she liked the groove of this romance novel so she friended him on social media
John began to follow her and eventually asked her to read his latest manuscript
Hmmm, the female lead was strikingly similar to Kimberlee
As you know, one thing leads to another and inevitably they met
It took a while, a pandemic intervened
Came the day at the Mexican restaurant where they had first met when a ring was placed on the table
And two hearts did sing
Neville Johnson Aug 2018
Michael Morton is his name
He was wrongfully convicted
For the ****** of his wife
25 years in prison, he did
You don’t want to imagine that life
An innocent man
In a horrible land
Christ, it’s so terrible

DNA rescued Michael
And fine lawyers who believed in his innocence

Turns out the prosecutor, Anderson, was corrupt
For sure
He withheld material evidence that would have eliminated
Our hero — for he is one — as the perpetrator
That’s the real crime

There is more
Anderson was so out of line that it cost him his job as a judge
And he lost his law license
And he went to jail
For ten days
First time in American history a prosecutor went to jail for misconduct

There is more
Michael found the Lord in prison
Which greatly helped him so
On his release he found a church
Invited to speak about his experience
He told those assembled if they wanted to know what prison was like
They had to ask him out for coffee
So Cynthia did
It went well
They talked and talked
There were many dates
They are now married

Michael reconciled with his son, Eric
Who was three when his mother was killed
And thereafter wrongly believed it had been by Michael’s hand

The real murderer was convicted and went to prison

They passed a law in Texas to ensure this travesty would not happen to another
It’s named the Michael Morton Law

They are going to make a movie about these facts

Count your blessings

The foregoing is a true story

Where broken hearts go
Are to these desolate cliffs
The waves crash in
Remembering
Missing the bliss
The hugs that endeared
They endure in special memories
Oh, the many good times
Now it’s the sad times
The bad times
The what do I do now times?
The starting anew times
The why me times?
On sunny days when the wind did blow
We’d drink wine and make plans
Taking it slow
Today the wind chills
Causing shivers in the drizzle
I walk alone
Full of sadness
The cliffs are desolate
So am I
Neville Johnson Mar 2021
I can’t help myself
I’ll love you till I die
Always will and ever will be
In your loving thrall
I have loved you for so very long
We have it all
Arms that love each other
As we fall in love again each day
Yes, we have it all
These loving arms are yours forever
Your loving arms are ever mine
Our loving arms embrace each other
It has come to be
Loving arms for my lover
Loving arms for me
Neville Johnson Jan 2022
I’m 32 feet in length
36 feet high
Been all around the world
Oh, the docks and sights I’ve seen
Enough to make me sigh
I knew the Sloop John B
We hung out in Nassau
Then we moseyed
To St. Barts, where many parties occurred
I like a choppy wind on glassy seas
With a group of sailors who know what their doin’
Don’t need any pleas
Had a woman fall overboard back in ‘21
That was a close one
Not at all fun
She got off at the next port
Fine by me, I’m a good sport

I’ve had seven skippers
They’ve all been pretty good
Mr. Bill is the latest
He does what he should
I’ve become a luxury cruise ship
That’s fine by me
As long as you keep me polished and clean
Call me the Seventh Sea
Neville Johnson Nov 2020
The news gets grimmer
Hope combats desperation
We worry, we pray, we console, we stay
Embedded in our houses
As the world suffers
Still, life goes on amid the fear and pain
This is the human condition:
Times of happiness
Or of war
Or of fevers that are deadly and widespread
We cling to our family and friends
Those who need help discover who their true friends are
Yes, we are in this together, meaning we all have an obligation
to act and stay safe
To support each other
To stay optimistic
To smile underneath the mask
We are not the first people of the world to face a global disaster
We will get through this somehow
We have the will, the power, and God is on everybody’s side

The smell of eucalyptus
The solid thunder that roars
The beckoning of the sea
Sensory impressions
That bring you back to me
Back to me you come
I can’t turn away
For you’re locked into my heart and soul
A joyous memory
All good thoughts you bring my way
When I hear and smell and see
What we used to share
When it was you and me
Those were the good old days
I’m sure you agree
When you smell eucalyptus
Do you think of me?
Sometimes I get wistful
Longing for those days
Nothing beats young lovers in love
See the sun shine through the haze
Neville Johnson Aug 2018
I’m on my way to San Antone
Gonna cowboy up
There’s a filly there I need to see
Sure enough, we’ll build a fire
Take in the Alamo
Then we’ll dance at The Wagon Wheel
The best *****-tonk I know
I’ll be on my best behave
The whole weekend through
I met her through Cowboy Date
The internet is cool
This solo buckaroo
Don’t intend to be single for long
This is our fourth rendezvous
I’m not usually wrong
I got a new Stetson hat
Took my spurs off
There’s a spring in my gait
I look like George Strait
In my fresh-pressed cowboy shirt
I even got some cologne on
Now, that’s a first
I could go on and on
I told my Mom she’s the one
I’ll tell my gal tonight
We’ll ride off into the sunset together
Assuming everything goes all right
Neville Johnson Feb 2017
I'm a stand-up comic, no joke
Please sit down, give me some hope
This laugh meister has it tough out there
Doing my tight five, flying without fear
But you, yes you, maybe could save him
Give him the courage to carry on
Look, I've got a college education
I'm fun, at least when I'm not brooding about why some joke failed
I know, it's just a bit, but it puts me in jail
Which is why I need you at least to talk to me
I need to sit down
I won't try to make you laugh
I need a friend, you see

Ben is a baker with a twinkle in his eye
He can sure make a cake
Seth is a regular customer with a sweet tooth for his fudge
He loves the jocularity and wit of sweet Ben
With his chef’s hat he is jauntily attired
As he seems to live life as a whim
Seth has a daughter, sweet Agnes
Pretty as sugar is sweet
So he has the notion to create a magical potion
He needed them to meet
Seth sent her in on a many a foray
To retrieve pastries he so likes
Ben eventually took notice and he began to like
This darling girl in ringlets and pearls
She was such a sight
One thing led to another
It’s fifty years on with many grandsons
And their youngest, a granddaughter
She comes around with regularity
Helps with the baking and always says “please”
Neville Johnson May 2019
This is the story of a love
Everyone has one, or should
Here is mine
Fits and starts I suffered
Nothing seemed to take
I so wanted to have a lover
A life together we would make
I had some dalliances
Never permanent but nice
Then would come the day to commit
I could not, I would fly
Into the future
Sometime regretting my past
Love is not for fooling around
So I went on leave
Didn’t date anyone for a good while
Morose I was
Then it changed
I met her at a meet and greet
Soon I was swept and smitten
And she  pursued me!
We grew closer
So much, that we are now married
Oh, I waited so long
I almost gave up
Now I can tell the tale
The story of love
Neville Johnson Jul 2020
The story of my life
Is the story of us
This is our truth
There is so much
So much we’ve endured
So much we have done
So good it has been
So much more to come

The story of my life
Is the story of love
Magnificent
Irrevocable
Yes, the story of
Two who found the secret
The magic that is there
When two truly embrace
When you really care
Neville Johnson Nov 2019
Hearts are broken
Then reopened
The heartache goes away
On the way to yourself you say
There will come the day
When my true love will come to stay
So you watch and wait and hope
Looking for that special one
Just as she or he searches for you
Then you will surrender
As you will not have a choice
You’ll hear the voice inside
Usually after a kiss
That this is a one and only
Not a hit or miss
Neville Johnson Sep 2016
The tears dried long ago
We've both moved on
Isn't that so?
Lives intertwined
Together but apart
The love never could
Or would leave the heart

No good looking back
What can never be
You just go on
Struggling to see
What's over the rainbow
Thankful for the past
You just go on
Much of it chance

There is no end
No permanent goodbye
You do your best
Maybe tremble and sigh
We both have moved on
The tears have dried
Neville Johnson Jul 2021
I see the trace of her outline as she walks into the sunset
A silhouette against the twilight
Soon the moon will rise and with it my hopes
Just as I know she will return
We reveled in these good times
As this day turns into night
We shall cherish all we have
We shall love with all our might
This portrait shall stay with me
In my heart, alive

It’s the end of our beginning
Beyond infatuation
Real commitment
The realization
Each day shall bring us closer
Even when we are away

This feeling we share
Unites us in so many ways
Crashing through our lives
Like so many waves
Ever in my thoughts
Her radiance so desired
I just want to be close to her
We have arrived
Neville Johnson Aug 2016
We met and connected, then she went away
I didn't like texting or skyping, she felt the same way
Romantic letters didn't do it either
I thought the most romantic message would be myself
So there I was, what a surprise for her
All the way there for her
Oh, she was amazed and what a thrill
When she walked up a kissed me, then said
"I'm still your girl."

I said I had something to tell her
She said, "What?," and I said "I love you."
She made it clear she felt the same,
Now we are two

I'm lucky because she loves me more than most people ever get loved
As for that trip I did take
It paid off, does so every day
That was no mistake
Neville Johnson Aug 2017
He took nothing from nobody--- never
As tough an umpire as they come
Big, boisterous, arrogant
Walking with a strut
"Whatever call you make is only the right call.
Never complain, never apologize," he used to say.
Ken Kaiser may be gone, but his memory will always be in play.
In the off season, his family would tell him to calm down and stop telling them what to do
If you can believe it, before umpiring he was The Hatchet, a professional wrestler, and never won a match.
He was proud that as an umpire he never lost control of a game.
The field was intimidated by him.
Rightly so.
Neville Johnson Oct 2016
OK, I get it, you still think of me
But we're not gonna connect
It's too messy
Two old soldiers of love
Who are still looking back
But our lives have moved on
So why the heck should we talk?
We're not gonna be together again
No way, we both see no future
In regards to our past
Just warm memories that forever will last

Life, love and war are not fair
You just grin and bear it
You take it from there
Make the best of today
Ruminate, reminisce
But when it's over, it's over
It's the goodbye kiss

I think of you often
I know you know
You think of me too
We sure we're close
So in my thoughts you will always be
But the way it was will never again be
Neville Johnson Aug 2017
OK, I photograph weddings at City Hall
Done thousands, pays the bills in so many ways
The smiles are so genuine
It's a happy place

I got all kinds of rates for your pocketbook
Hey, you gotta have at least one picture for the memory book
But how about the one I didn't take?
That was the one on my wedding day

She was sitting on a bench at the Marriage Bureau
I asked her if she needed a picture on that special day
She replied, "I'm not getting married, no way"
I gave her my card, just in case

This is a true story, I kid you not
We got together, we tied the knot
Thus, this is a holy place
Holy moley, wholly great
Where true love congregates every day
Just ask me, you know what I'll say
Neville Johnson Mar 2022
The week begins
He sits at his desk
Dreaming of where he should be
On a train somewhere to someplace new
Or one of those hotels on the water in Tahiti
But instead he tries to encourage himself
Another day making bread
That’s been his life for so many years
It’s called getting ahead
He won’t grumble, he’ll just tumble
Will make the most of this day
A masterpiece as best he can
There’s nothing in his way
Neville Johnson Oct 2021
“He touched my heart”
Said the lady in red
We met at a fair
Having good clean fun
I bought her a sarsaparilla
Invited her to sit
And she told me her sad tale
Her husband had been it
A wonderful man who loved her true
Perfect their marriage
Where love ran through
Still in mourning she was doing her best
To keep a brave face
Still happy she’d been blest
With the love of her life
For he was the best

That brings her to me
It’s now my story to tell
Our tete a tete went on for a spell
We went for supper, and drinks thereafter
You see, I’m a widower, and well
I could understand how she felt
I could really relate
For I felt the same, my wife was great
Still, we both knew we had to move on
Those loves we had did not disappear
They will never be gone

Cut to the present, this is today
I told her I loved her, that I would stay
Close to her, now and always
That our new love is strong
No more alone, from now on it’s “we”
Neville Johnson Jan 2017
We could touch the wind
We did so every day
Around the world of love
So it was we sailed
Aloft with inspiration
And plans that we would make
It was everything about her
That made my body shake with exhilaration
Oh, we were the bomb
Riding high with hope
Then one day it was gone

These days when I feel a gust
I often think of her
Such a beauty, what a heart
That ensures and endures
Still a part of me
Always shall it stay
Wherever I go
And whenever the wind does play

Deployed to Angola, of all places
On a mission to recruit
The hangout for expats in Luanda
Is the Come Back Inn
The agency was looking for someone who would not arouse suspicion
He was also looking for love
Hmm, he espied a comely lass dressed in white, with a string pearls accuenting that beautiful neck
Can I buy you a drink?” he found easy to say
Marcy smiled and nodded yes
They were on their way
Doctors Without Borders had placed her there, she revealed
She was that kind of a good old soul
Dinner followed, then came a kiss
They were on a roll
It took a while for Hector to reveal
What he really did
He wasn’t a journalist after all
Did she like the adventurous life?
That sounded pretty good to her
She asked if he needed a wife
That sounded pretty good to him
Dateline: today
They live in a treehouse in Zambia
Baby is on the way
She’s still doing the MD thing
As for Hector, it’s a secret
So I cannot say

They towed my T-bird
Landlord is at the door
Trying to get ahead
Gonna make that score
Big blue sky
Still mine be assured
They can’t tow me
Just the T-bird

I got no cash but I ain’t down
It’s  just just an opportunity
Not gonna drown
For me to achieve
No mountain gonna stop me
You better believe

I guess for now I’ll taking the bus
I’ll make the best of it
Won’t cuss
Just **** it up

They towed my T-bird
I don’t need a car
I got two good feet
I can wish upon a star

They towed the T-bird
But they can’t tow me

This is for you
What must be said
Simply and often
From my heart and head
You changed my life
You give me a thrill
Each time we kiss
Say you will
Be mine forever
Be kind to me
Forgive my failings
I want to be
Your best man
Every day
Give me your heart
In love all the way

I need you
I love you
Always
Be mine
We’ve made it this far
We’ll go to the finish line
Love me, don’t leave me
Forgive me my sins
I’m trying, really trying
I’ve so much love within
I can show you
Give me a kiss
Now wasn’t that nice?
Complete bliss?

This is the city where I come from
And my folks and before them some
Who left good old Ireland
Yes this is the city where I come from
They came to make their way
They came to see a day
Where they could earn decent pay
To make a new life to be able to say
I am here to stay
I got a yesterday
I got a past
A tomorrow
And for sure a today
Because of the brave ones
Who found this place
Who breathed and lived their dream
The one I now embrace
I thank them with all my heart
Yes it's been a very human race
They came to make their way
They came to stay
Today is St. Patrick's Day. I'm mostly Irish. We are all immigrants. These are the lyrics to a song I am now performing as Trevor McShane. McShane is the name of my forefathers, who changed it (Mc is son, Shane is John in Gaelic) in about 1850 because of prejudice against the Irish.

This is the scene, the place
Where my tears did fall
This is where she broke my heart
If I must recall
That dreary day so long ago
When she told me we were through
“I could not wait any longer,” she said
It was such bad news
I’d never cried before, not like that
She was someone I could marry
So I thought
Instead I went kerplat
Down and out
Into the land of funk
Somehow I made it out
Here I am back today
Ruminating, researching
What was that about?
It was a long time ago
But the wound still smarts
Life is not perfect
Ask those with broken hearts
Some never mend
They just go on
Take me for example
For I am one

Sheer, pure, elegance
This is you
So beautiful your essence
So cool
So much a part of me
Of life
I am renewed by just the thought of you
Incomparable you are
Yes, you, you, you, you, you

That easy laugh
The repartee
The knowing look
The smile
The ease with which you do it all
The breadth of your intelligence
Oh my
God must have rested after creating you
Recognizing, if not congratulating himself, on your amazing style

Here's to you in all your glory
Here's the thanks from me
For being in my life
For our past and future history
