I am your best kept secret
The one you are afraid to be seen with
The one you can't bring back to your friends
The one you can't tell anyone about.
But I am the one who thought you cared
I am the one who fell head over heels
And I am the one picking myself up off the floor
And strutting out the front door.
Isn't it strange, wanting everything everyone else wants?
Are they expectations?
If we didn't see what is so desirable, maybe we would want something else entirely

but this heart
oh this stupid little thing
as innocent as a child
as wild as a raging storm
tearing down trees and homes

it runs after you
like it's freakin' crazy
with all it has
with all it ever had
trips and falls
survives and
arises from the dust

scars bleeding
knees skinned
barely breathing
keep on going

and i'm so afraid
it will get there
i'm so afraid

they say hearts are wild creatures
that's why our ribs are cages

well i guess today
this heart
it ranĀ
it freakin' ran away
(I think I fell for him tonight)
Buried under all the empty bottles,
And broken hearts
Lied a girl with one to many thoughts.
As she tried to find the answers
At the bottom of a glass
She ended up drowning
Deep into her past.
And she couldn't help but throw back
A mix of all her regrets
And feelings
In one big cup of what she called
Her last.

something was missing.
a vacancy of purpose
lay within my soul.
until I caught your glance
and for a brief moment,
I suddenly felt whole.

I didn't believe it, at first.
my jaded mind fought the idea.
but the emptiness began to fill.
this wasn't a lustful impulse
something had begun,
and it was real.

the proof was in
your words,
your smile,
your loving touch.
your humor,
your laugh,
I could not get enough.

our lives began that august night
under a star filled sky and pale moon.
I am a 'man' today made better, forever
and it's all my darling,
my Love,
because of you.

I'm sometimes asked with feigned surprise,
"You write poetry?"
"How Divine!
Give us a sample of your
favorite rhyme!"

But I know what they're thinking.
I see it in their eyes,
"What a waste of time."
"What a joke."
"Better hide the silver,
cuz these types are all broke."

Poetry doesn't pay the bills.
That part is so true.
But, don't deride my compulsion,
or my next hundred verses
will be about "you!"

Classics in Art, Music, Literature
live beyond temporal limits.
Touching chords when seen and heard,
on canvass, in melodies, with written words.

They can be young and fresh,
or ancient and frayed.
With messages and stories
ringing true through every Age.

They transcend places
and march boldly through time.
Still relevant,
Still beautiful,
Eternally sublime.
