They were always like waves
Crashing
Pulling
Reeling me in
To their rock bottom sea
And that was where I always landed
Into rock bottom relationships
With a lover
Always by the seashore

Early morning forest trees
tinted pale gold and peach
with chiffon mist glaze
Icy tipped scented lime
Crackle edge, crisp flight
raven blending into the edge
of breathy clouds
Undergrowth hum
and silence, overlapping lines
Swift sight of burnish
fox flame crunch and swish
winnow of wood sun flare flow
layered amber folding through the gold
Winter flings her cloak and flies

Battle Cry

I’ve sobbed for hours,
Then for days,
Ache blurring lifeless gaze
Stolen breaths come incomplete
And, too quickly, are replaced.
I’ve sobbed from twilight until noon
Filling this entire room
Watching skin succumb to prune
Hair, molasses, ‘round my neck
Pirouettes to desperate croon.
I’ve sobbed through sunrise and sunset
Muddled orange and violet
Lighting crests of waves deflect
Fading as they intersect.
I sob for eras and for lives
Until none of them survive,
So what light exists beyond the depth
Can magnetize and resurrect,
And eyes can greet horizon new
Reflecting glowing golden hue
Desaturating retrospect
As currents sway to sovereign tune.

Your sweet melody
Sticks to my neck
Like fingers nectarine
And when the sun
Heaves heat upon me,
Oh, how it sings

solomon-shaming lilies
glow in morning's glory and
border the path as it emerges
from the shaded olive grove

stopping me with grace as
sunrise rays warm my face
and dispell the cold night as
the slumbering world awakens

swallow tail butterflies flit
under sacred dogwood clouds
that mimic rapture's sign as they
diffuse golden hour radiance

honeysuckle perfume inspires
birdsong's layered dawn chorus
and i know the tomb is empty
as nature's love envelopes me
Happy Easter

did not hear you come
footfall of a butterfly
love comes silently

the lovers

i once read
that in ancient times
once lovers
had shared each other
underneath the light
of a full moon,
they were bonded
in every lifetime.
perhaps that is why
i can't seem to escape you.
- my soul has belonged to you in every carnation.

I stayed stoic
And unmoved
Until I felt something pop
Inside me
And fizz out
Like champagne
Dripping down the sides
Of a glass
At a birthday party.
And then
At the release
I
Let myself breathe
Spilling out
In a bubbling gasp
And for a moment
The air was alight
With a thousand
Tiny fairy lights
As if the world
Had been switched on
But
They soon flickered out
And I
Like everything else
Was still again.
