Twilight swallows fly gracefully across the golden sky

Spending time outdoors provides me with a natural high

The air slightly cools and I walk barefoot through the grass

I silently make a toast and raise my glass

Lightning bugs illuminate the river bank as the frogs sing their nightly tune

Pure joy is what I feel throughout the month of June
I love summertime in Michigan!

I’ll never forget that first glance not long after you were born

You were huddling in the straw at the back of the barn to try to stay warm

Your eyes were barely open and you could not make a sound

The first time I picked you up in my arms, my feelings were profound

I instantly loved you and you instantly loved me

That unexpected discovery was really meant to be
Poem for my 12 year old cat, Callie. She is truly my baby and I love her so much.

Special is the word they use when they talk about me

They assume that my diagnosis fully defines me

Sometimes I wish I could only be heard and not seen

That’s what I often think about when I daydream

The dappled sunlight shines lightly through the trees
The creek flows down the hill with gentleness and ease
The red winged blackbird calls loudly to her mate
The butterflies fly happily around the garden gate
The chimes blow in the breeze and quietly ring
Oh, the sights and sounds of the season make my heart sing

I’m gonna have some coffee
I’m gonna drink some tea
I’m gonna eat some hot soup
Because this frickin’ snow is crazy

Mother Nature is off her rocker
This is a real pleasure blocker
They are going to have to cancel soccer
This sure doesn’t feel real proper

What’s going to happen to the apple blossoms and the daffodils
Going to have to start a fire to avoid the chills
As you can probably tell, I’m not real thrilled
But I refuse to allow this to break my spirit and will keep my strong will
6 inches of snow forecasted in mid-Michigan on 4/27/19.

Daffodils in full bloom
The perfume coming from the grape hyacinth

One red-winged blackbird calls to his mate
The bluebirds guard their nest

Clear blue skies make way for the intensifying spring sun

A delicious brunch is cooking in the oven
We are about to have some fun

Cheers to new beginnings and the best time of the year

I’m so relieved, my eyes are wet with happy tears

One day Death came knocking on my door
But I was not ready for death

Please go knock on someone else’s door I yelled

As I struggled to take another breath

It was then that I had made up my mind,
fight like hell

Because I was not ready to leave everything behind

As I eventually pulled myself from the smoky car

Strangers quickly became caretakers that caught my fall

And I was not afraid anymore

Because Death had simply checked in on me then moved along
