The it upstairs
thinks it's God,
But it isn't.
Man or Woman,
It comes in a thousand genders.

It's only has one mind,
Its own pleasure,
The power of Now,
Well, that's what it's all about.
The cost,
Well, that's no problem.

It begs
It borrows
It steals
It pleads
It lies to you straight faced.

If you bleed,
When the consequences are paid,
It says, "Not me"
"We'll deal with it later"
"One more time"
"One more round"
"One more rodeo"
"One last time for the road."

It's pretty smug
most of the time,
Can't move your
arms or legs,
But whips up anxiety
if
you say, "No. "
It'll show you resistance is futile.

Though it only hangs
around
for little while,
It'll let you know.

It speaks to you
in the third person voice -
You deserve it
You need it
You've been so good.

It'll talk you into trances
strange self-destructive dances,
Twist you upside down,
Inside out.

It ain't God,
Somebody needs to talk to it soon,
Let it know,
These days of running the show
are numbered,
There's more to life than this slumber
Numbness has had its abundance,
Talk to it soon
While there's still time.

A whisper, though, says something different,
"How's about
one more
time. "
Dedicated to those in Recovery.
And those who say, "Not me, not yet. "
Sometimes
you
need to call
in
sick
to
your
self.

I'M
JUST
ANOTHER
BIRD
THAT
DIED
-
TRYING
TO
FLY
INTO
YOUR
BEDROOM
WINDOW.
You were the moon,
I was just the ocean.

I never could escape your gravitational pull.
My tides, the rise and the fall...
I owed them all to you.

The day you abandoned me,
I stood motionless, paralyzed by your absence.
A vast sea of salt water and emptiness.

Aching to feel your pull once more.
walking the strangled sidewalk
taken to my mind
and the cement was ripped from under my shoes
I fell into her eyes
her rich brown eyes stopped my heart
life was her
life was always her
a second I’d rudely keep on my pocket
Hopeless sight of the emerald piers
My hazard mind and scattered tears
******* desires forget my strength
Fearing death and life at length
I know little but what I know
Will carry on and forever grow
I've sold my soul and mortal being
To say "yes" without agreeing
I see boats on the horizon sink
And people cower in fear to think
I've seen books burn in great bonfires
And evil men the devil admires
But I'd like to build a Jerusalem with pillars of gold
A place to sin and never grow old
I want more by the day
The impossible, trite, and things I cannot say
Yet I lack for nothing now
Having killed the sacred cow
And finally to stand on the world's end
Crimes behind I cannot amend
And still with tears in my eye
Breathe not a word and quickly die
Hopeless the sight of the emerald piers
My hazard mind and scattered tears
