I Am of the Spirit
I am a human being.
I am of the spirit.
Experiencing life.
As it comes.
Mostly in the present.
Somewhere along the road,
I realized that I was a spiritual being.
Within a human body.
I celebrate both.
They are part of the same.
They are one.
When I connect to both.
I remember.
While I was born alone and will die alone.
I am truly not alone.
I am of the spirit.
I am part of the greater whole.
The universe is my home.
I am of the spirit.

speeding on the track. Once
it starts there's no turning
back. It's a kettle of
bubbling screams. It whistles

pain in sweating hot
steam. It’s lightning hurling
its bolts between clouds
and ground. But today

it didn't make a sound. It pitter
pattered like toddler feet, stumbling
between fits of sleep. Drinking it
down with moonshine last night,

till the throat was burning and
chest tight. It's a warrior badge
pinned to the breast. A scrawny
lion that feeds without rest.

I took for granted everything,
colors of every hue.
I didn’t know those colors
filled my world because of you.

So, like the fool I am
I let you go, too blind to see
that on my own I am just alone
and things turned out to be

where colors slowly slipped away,
the yellows, greens and blues.
And now the only color left…
is the memory of you.

Did you ever
a dandelion pick,
blow each seed
and make a wish.

Was that wish,
a wish for wealth
or was that wish
a wish for health?

Or was that wish
a wish to see,
a field of gold
in front of thee.

Do you ever feel
Like you're a bug?

I mean
Think about it
They get punished
For just existing
And in the world we live in
We are born in to this madness
With the only escape
Being death

Bugs come in all different shapes and sizes
Still bugs nonetheless
But when we see an ant just minding it's business
We step on it
And when we see a butterfly
we take a picture

Bugs get squashed
By people

People get squashed
By people

Do you see what I mean?
Maybe not the most poetic thing, but a thought I had.

(This note was written by a light that could not turn on, but you thought you could turn it on when you wanted to. Is that enough?)

I’ve heard it takes a lifetime to live a minute
and it takes a minute to live a lifetime.
You don’t know what you’re in until you’re in it,
and you don’t see the sun until the sunshine.
So I’ll resign to waiting in line,
wasting my time, and losing my mind.

I know when I’ve been beat,
so don’t be surprised if I retreat.
I’d rather face the music then face the heat,
rather ******* tears as they’re sweet;
as sweet as sweet defeat.

It takes only a second to start a war,
and then naturally all hell breaks loose.
Do you know which side you’re fighting for?
Did you even get to choose?
So I’ll resign to the front line,
biding my time searching for a land mine.

I know when I’ve been beat
so don’t be shocked if I move my feet
to find cover from the fire on the street.
At long last the circle is complete
and it’s as sweet as sweet defeat.

“I’ll get you and your little dog too”
it’s all I’m hearing, and it’s ringing true,
along with “what’s a poor boy to do?”
“You have a choice: red or blue”
do you dare turn reality askew?
Or take your chances and wait for lieu?

I know when I’ve been beat,
so don’t be worried if I take a seat.
I can’t win the battle and I won’t cheat,
I’ll be lamb to slaughter; made to meat
and I’ll taste as sweet as sweet defeat.
The white flag is stained and ripped.

I write for the dreamers, lost in thought,
For every soul that battled and fought,
For those who wander in search of light,
And for the hearts sparked by the night.

I pen my words for the broken and mended,
For stories untold and lives suspended.
For whispers of love across the air,
And moments we share, beyond compare.

For the past that shapes, the future that gleams,
The valleys of sorrow, the peaks of dreams.
For the eyes that seek, and ears that listen,
In every tear, in every glisten.

I write for the silence, the voices unheard,
For passions ignited by the simplest of words.
For friends and foes, for strangers anew,
In every line, my heart rings true.

For kings and queens on thrones of gold,
And politicians with their stories told.
For children’s laughter, for parents’ pride,
For brothers and sisters, side by side.

In ink, I find the bridge to connect,
To amplify joys, to reflect and inspect.
But most of all, across all seas,
I write, my heart, I write for me.

Into the light,
Into the night,
Darkness abounds,
Faint are the sounds.
A sliver of light,
So ends the fight.
Freedom at last,
No air, then a gasp.
Soiled, degraded,
My cries unabated.

LIFE

My cries unabated,
Soiled, degraded,
No air, then a gasp.
Freedom at last,
So ends the fight.
A sliver of light,
Faint are the sounds,
Darkness abounds.
Into the night,
Into the light.
My first attempt at a reverse poem.  My inlaws are in a nursing home. The similarities to the beginning of life are striking.
I'm a worn out old man.
I want to go back to Alcott
where our world was in a jar
we were collected bugs in the
woods. We knew the creeks and
lake and swung on vines Tarzan
like and ran home to supper and
homework and TV and slumber.
Dad off to work at 5am hacking
in the bushes and off he went in
a flesh colored rocket ship bare
as birth his '57 Chevrolet Bel Air.

Just a girl with
All the colours of the rainbow
Flickering behind her eyes.
The dullness of masks,
Of confusion,
Dulls the shine.
But when you look deeper,
Into her soul,
You see it brightening.
Ideas weave through like a river,
In the grassy fields of thought.
You see the hopes, the dreams, the fears,
Planted like seeds.
When she smiles,
The room lights up with the joy,
The sincerity,
Of the girl painted with all the colours of life.
Wrote this for school, idk how much I like it, but I wanted to share it anyway<3
