My heart keeps floating east
to the place of my birth
along the brown rushing waters
of the awesome Mississippi
the vast Atchafalaya basin
where the boys
of fishermen and hunters
become men.
Oaks drip with moss
cypress trees grow out of swamps
and exude a mystic charm
that pierces your mood
and captures your fancy.
La Nouvelle-Orleans
born in centuries past
gateway to a new life
for my forefathers
who crossed oceans from France
made families for the generations
and planted their culture
amidst the rich foliage
and damp environs
of this magnificent mysterious place.
Yes, I yearn to cross the Sabine
make my way to Breaux Bridge
and other Evangeline towns
eat crawfish etoufee
by the Bayou Teche
speak my Texanized accent
to my Cajun cousins
who tell their stories
with a hint of French
and laugh in a universal language.
Soon I hope to make the trek
to quinch the yearning of my heart
hug my cousins
breathe the poem of my life
and the moist fragrant Louisiana air.
I bow to my friend here Jamadhi Verse with gratitude for his poem, Tri-state Trinity," that inspired this one.

Years ago
A pen was found
Its grip was blue
Slightly chipped

It wrote
Everyday on sheets, white
Flawlessly on the lines
Words did glide

It had a special place
Where it rested
After a long day
At the desk

Its home was warm
A wooden drawer
Strategically placed
Easy to fetch

Now it has been years
It longs to see the desk
At dawn
A practice now clearly gone

It lay still
In the wooden drawer
Cold and blue
Ink-less dry

The tired twig broke.
A lone Leaf went into a free fall.
It softly landed on the ant hole.
A bustling empire descended into permanent darkness.

.

The dawn after the mayhem,
The life after the death of life,
The pain to see yourself alive,
after loosing every single family,
The heart seeks death yet the brain chooses to live,
The hunters are still there,
Searching for your body and soul,
They want you dead or burried alive,
And in that despair you crave to live.
To live to be able to search your loved ones,
They are dead all gone,
Yet, to find their remains and give them a final burial,
To be able to live through all this,
To survive and move on,
To see millions killed not by strangers but by own people,
By people whom you grew up,
The loss is more powerful,

The cries yet to come,
The hurt is intense,
The emotion yet
to settle in,
The change is indespnsable,
But to move on is yet
to register,
The killers calling your name,
You holed in the washroom,
Trying to save yourself,
Yet, cursing to be alive,
The bloodiest human action in current history,
But, life has to move on,
And yes, you need to live and move on...

Man and his shoes

There is a man
At the water's edge
He glares savagely
Eyes raging
At the horizon

Unable to steady himself, his mind
Angry at his life
At his world
He spits virulent nonsense at the waves...
But they provide no relief

He hopes each cry will disperse
Each drop of venomous saliva will
wash away with the tide
He is infected with bitterness, but
a hundred moons and a thousand oceans couldn't save his retched soul

There are many watching, wondering, but he stands
alone
Only the gulls surround him
Waiting to feed from his bones
He's redolent of despair
And they smell his desperate heart

As he rocks his upper body
Back and forth, back and forth
The waves greet him mockingly
And swallow his shoes
Written whilst sitting on the beach in Brighton, England. There was a man, shouting into the sea....

Rama Krsna
standing in tree pose
palms folded above head,
not even the raging flames
which envelope you
dare threaten thy resolve,
as those fish-shaped eyes
meditate on
the space between the brows
where your true love resides

resident of kanchi,
need for strict austerities
are now over.....

it’s time to open
those compassionate eyes
and cast a glance
at the verklempt heart
of your ultimate devotee,

me!

Before, our love
Became inanimate
It had flickered, pulsed
Its own heart
Beating as we slowly
Danced across the floor
The light in our eyes
Lit every corner of the room
Leaving no room for doubt

After, our love
Became inanimate
Our hearts, clanging bells
Calling for each other
Absent our names
Only shadows filled the room
And doubt, positioned
In the middle of the floor

We knew how to sit
On opposite ends of the room
Inanimate expressions
With the absence of hearts
