by 89 members and 226 followers This collection is for poems written in various Japanese styles. There is more to this type of poetry than mere numbers. One does not simply awkwardly break up sentences and call it a haiku simply because it fits the count. Each line though linked can stand alone, while together forming a thoughts or images that are brought to closure by the last line or set of lines. To write this type of poetry well, is an art in and of itself. All endeavors are welcome here, as each odist is on his or her own journey.
The styles are as follows:
Haiku/Senryu
Both are long/short/long. Traditionally 5/7/5, with haiku being nature based and senryu being human based. Both are succinct without much filler.
Rensaku
A longer poem, by one author, made up of haiku-like stanzas each representing a different image.
Haibun
Basically terse prose interspersed with at least one haiku/senryu
Tanka
5/7/5/7/7
Choka
Can be any length alternating lines of 5/7 ending in 7/7. Like a really long tanka. 5/7/5/7/5/7/7
Dodoitsu
7/7/7/5
