originality

originality is something we all have the ability to possess,
a concept that is sometimes difficult to assess.
yet originality is a crime,
people push it away time after time after time.
people fear the unknown,
it weighs on them like a stone.
its also a drug,
we all wish for its unexpected warm hug.
we wish for it,
crave it.
we all want something new,
something out of the blue.
people shoot it down,
upset that they couldnt come up with something profound.
it dies every year, slowly becoming extinct,
all because most people refuse to think.
forget about everyone else,
think for yourself.
if people continued to follow other people,
we wouldnt have these amazing people.
everyone would be in the same dirt, same predicament,
the same trap, the same extinction.
think and unleash originality,
and push away the pressures of reality.
forget about trends, just be yourself

Do you remember when imagination
Ran rampant and tree houses became castles
Or the garage floor was boiling lava?
Our own little world within a much bigger one.
We were so absorbed in our own bliss that
We unknowingly sheltered ourselves from a reality
That all adults suffered through

Do you remember when you used to build legos?
An obsession with building a spaceship
To soar high above everyone and anything else.
You would show mommy your art and she'd be so impressed
And soon after, you'd be back in the lab,
Trying to surpass your previous creation
In an attempt to gain mommy's love.

Do you remember when you went camping?
We would lay in tents on the cold, hard earth
And stare off into the starry sky until serenity
Would cradle us off into slumber or the time
When your brothers/sisters kept being rambunctious,
Fighting and screaming, so much to the point where
Daddy threatened to take us all home and call it quits

Do you remember when you grew up?
You finally became the young man/woman your parents
Raised you to be for all those years.
It's time you join that reality that you so easily
Sheltered yourself from, but now caught up to you.
Reality can be a scary thing you thought to yourself
But you knew you couldn't hide from it.

School, work and sleep now rules your life.
Throw a newborn into the mix and
you've now officially joined the real world.
A world in which takes all that you give
And you don't think twice about asking.
You spend hours a day, working,
but do you remember the last time you were happy?

Just remember the little things in life and don't let adulthood swallow you whole.

Adrift

I am adrift
upon a sea that
always returns to kiss
the broken shore.
No matter how hard the two collide
she always returns for more.
I am stranded
upon this constant tide
that perpetuates a heartache,
for no matter how hard I try
I cannot become the foam of waves
I cannot return time and time again to kiss that perfect stony face.

The sea is in love with the shore
but must always pull away.
Only to return once more
with the thundering embrace
of a thousand soft lipped waves.
I think I left this in your shirt pocket and I think you've read it. It is about you. Of course this is about you.

He knows the smell of rain
He asks what color is the rain?
The wind blows
And he smiles
He knows the smell of spring
He asks what color is the spring?
A bird chirps
He smiles

He walks home
Wondering the color of the world
And he smiles

You say you love me more
You always doubt my want and need for you
But when a day goes by
Where we can't be with each other
And we don't speak much
It breaks me down
Depresses me
Until the next moment I'm with you
Because that's when I feel security
You're the light in my life
Without you it's dark
You're the pillow I rest my head on
In the middle of the night
Your voice and your touch
Soothes me and stops time
The lonely days make me short of breath
I hate it when you're not by my side
I simply can't live without you
Yet you always question this love of mine
I wish you'd understand
I wish you would believe me
You're everything I want
You're all that matters to me

i have lost the will to move from this empty bed.

all i want to do is sleep, but my mind quietly begs you to come lay next to me.

i know you won't, so i torture myself with thoughts of you with her instead.
I dont want to get up ever i dont want to walk through the halls because everytime I see you you're next to her

We're a generation
of bad habits
and hypocrites
that'll do whatever
it takes to be happy;
whatever it takes
to supposedly
remain free.

         Because
         the truth is;
                  we're all addicted
                 to something.

And   we     let       it       get
       the    best    of      us
