I hate him so much
I miss the way he treated me
I miss his friendship and how he made me laugh
I miss him taking care of me in every aspect
I miss the car rides we took listening to amazing music
My brother killed himself May 2014.
Makes sense that I would mix missing him and hating him in the same poem.

Dream
Spanning between two points of darkness
Eyes open
Floating on streams of light

Nightmare
Spanning between two points of darkness
Eyes closed
Staring into the darkness

Life
Spanning between two points in time
Eyes open
Navigating streams of light

Death
Spanning between two points of life
Eyes closed
Resting for the next adventure

Handcuffed politely to the bedpost of his inspiration,
he is optimistic that this time the limits
of self-imposed constraint will be breached, if not brutalised entirely.

‘Don Quixote’ - a whimper of metaphor;
‘DoN QuiXoTE’ - a rush of chiming vowels;
’DON QUIXOTE’ - a panic of ecstatic prosody.
~
Ignoring his aching wrists
and with imagination unfettered,
he reaches for paper and pen, and begins.

‘Somewhere in La Mancha, in a place whose name I do not care to remember, a gentleman lived not long ago, one of those who has a lance and ancient shield on a shelf and keeps a skinny nag and a greyhound for racing.’
- Miguel de Cervantes, Don Quixote

I cannot utter what
is bothering my soul

Perhaps it is the fire
of my own mind

The same fire that
kept me warm was
the one to burn me

Or perhaps it is the
unbearable weight of
my sleepless eyelids
I haven’t been sleeping lately, and I no longer want to take my meds. The downward spiral of doom is back once again.

I looked up at
the starry sky

A lone dying star
has greeted me,

and I promised that
I will see her soon
I have met this star twice now.

A knife
caressing my thighs
to my wrists

A chemical mixture
swallowed down
with a drink

A lover
you’ve never tasted

ignited by her touch,
the purest glow of excitement,
entwined round each other like chords and a melody.
souls afire with need for one another,
embraced.

bracing,
for the agonising reality,
that this is not forever.
infinite in memory, yet so temporarily set in time.
breathe, lock eyes,
white lies as you say you’ll never leave.
white lies as we interlink fingers.

and now we wait,
patience is a virtue,
or so they say.
