Io
Io
The rocks
My blood, red flow
Behind my veil ash
stars lie obscure
An eye
Rusted white
Swirling in it’s spite
It gave me life
Is it that which I abhor?
At my behest
In vacuo
Upon an inky sea
Put my burnt soul to rest

Wiggle out the worries
Until the sky is full of furies,
The what ifs and might be’s
Swirling on a tight breeze

Tease out all the tension
Into the third dimension
Gather all the strands
Braided into supple bands

Navigate the nerves
Know their subtle curves
Tie each to a tension line
Watch the cords intertwine

Into a net, thrown in the air
Capture all the worries there
Pull the strings, cinch the net
What a fine price you'll get

I would like to recline, rest
these weary limbs of mine
- head down, feet up,
giant sigh -

Resting for a moment, really,
I'm not going to sleep right
now...  I just need to rescue
these poor feet... only a
moment...

I’m not sinking deep into
the couch... one little show
and then off to bed I’ll go...

Yes, that last blink
lingered… and the next
more so - another sigh -
and I sink deeper…

One more blink… weighs
heavy on… dreaming
eyes… too late to fight…
good… night...

Doesn't everyone check
the locks on the children
before bed? And on the
doors asleep in their
bunks? That the
dishwasher has been fed,
the coffee is chugging
along and the cat is ground
for tomorrow. Is that so wrong?

And while we're here in
the kitchen, it's no
trouble to confirm that
the compost is turned off,
the stove doors are shut
tight and the fridge is
secured. Doesn't everyone?

The Lemon Sister By Jill Shalvis

The Lemon sisters used the be close
They shared everything
But people grow up and grow apart
And lives quickly unstring

An accident left Brooke damaged
With more than visible scars
She left everyone she loved behind
To hide in the city of stars

Mindy, the control freak, is burnt out
But really, can you blame her?
She’s got the - three kids, a shop
And husband who’s a doc - disclaimer

Mindy and Brooke need each other
To face challenges holding them back
Add in second chances at romances
Laughter, healing and a clown attack

This book is an amusing ride
Through living with ghosts of the past
And mending complicated relationships
To find happiness that can last
it's more fun to review books with a poem. If you're into romance, this one is a sure bet.

A poem is calling
And I can't attend it
I'll seize a few strands
To later extend it

Because life is running
Demanding a chase
No time for daydreaming
Til the end of this race

...

A poem was calling
I hope it’s still near
If I sit still and quiet
Perhaps it will reappear

Tucked away from company,
the bag of shame,
where we dump the
ever-replenishing
bowl of misfit stuff
with its leaning tower of
letters and unsolicited magazines,
artwork, small treasures,
confiscated things, and
bits and pieces we might need -
amassed together awaiting
removal or repairs,
a new home of their own,
or to join the drawer of miscellany
and its collection of
eternally optimistic maybes,
better safe than sorries -
really, there’s no need for worries,
it can't hurt to keep it all

Tucked away from every day,
wrapped up in layers of redirection
- no need for locks, secret rooms -
hidden away in plain view
to be exhumed by scent or sight,
by feelings of fright or contentment,
memories of true and untrue
tangle together
really, it's better they do,
it can hurt to keep it all
